    That FMF pipe is different than my FMF Gnarley that I just received for my 2019 YZ250. Mine has a 2 piece reverse cone that goes all the way to the rear pipe mount. I think that pipe is tuned for a bit higher RPM than mine, more like my PC plat 2 pipe .

    You get a different sound of course if you dump the garbage can sized stock silencer for a shorty, but not much at all with a different pipe. When retired pros talk about the old 2-strokes that sounded "throaty", different and stronger sounding than anything else on the track, (Like A highly modified Pro Circuit bike), that great sound comes from the porting they did. When you change the size of the exhaust port, the sound changes.

    Your brake and clutch levers look to be at a pretty good angle, but if you rotate you handlebars back so the ends of your grips are pointing down, you will corner better with more confidence and not always need a berm and you will enjoy the ride more. It is easy to try, and it will be easier to get in front of the other ape hangers. The seat is taller I know, but give it a try anyway. After a bit of practice, I promise you your cornering talent will improve, as you will have more control of the front end and it is easier to keep your elbows up.
    I came here for the pipe though, but the sound means nothing to me. I am also going to do a couple otehr simple mods to match the lower rpm target Gnarley pipe. I should do them one at a time, but I am confident they will work well together and want to save time. Lower the cylinder by not using a cylinder base gasket, (must use a good sealer that resists gas, no silicone. Can also use the 2011 head that had more compression if not lowering the cylinder), which lowers the exhaust for to better match the lower RPM pipe, and the V-force reeds with out the spacer between it and the cylinder. I love strong low end power for the wood riding I do, and the stock YZ just does not cut it.

    I will stick with the 450 non smoker with push button start, rehear it and make it scat like a 2t. But it will just feel more planted wich gives me better control!

      @@gregduncan122 A total engine rebuild kit on my 450 is only $900 top and bottom. Were do you get $3500 from?People like you make up lies and hope people believe you or either you got ripped off an don’t know any better on prices bc lack of knowledge.

      Fmf powercore is a silencer ( short ) Fmf turbinecore is a spark arrestor ( long )

      @@frankpalermo3630 I need the spark arrestor to be legal in Michigan for woods riding, but I am going to shorten my Turbincore. There is also a sound check that the cops can do, but do you see that little sensor by your shift lever shaft? That is a sensor that senses when you are in neutral, and it retards the ignition timing for a softer sound for sound tests. Thank you Yamaha. :)

      @@dominickjohnston5881 You need to jet the carb 2-stroke bikes off the showroom floor. They come rich to be safe with any air quality around the world, and there is about 2hp lost there. I doubt you have to re-jet for a different gasoline unless you get some oxygenated stuff, because they really make about the same energy, but just more octane to resist higher compression detonation. I ran AV gas as a kid around 1983 in a YZ125, with Castro-R Castor oil. The oil would not mix with the fuel and I wore out a fresh bored cylinder. I think most oils do mix well, but if you want to be sure, on a cold day, mix some up in a glass jar to see if the oil stays suspended in the fuel. I did that after I wore out the top end, and could immediately see oil droplets forming, and sink to the bottom of the jar. When you have your bike jetted well, (very little smoke also), you will want to check the jetting every time you do a performance mod to the engine, like porting or changing a pipe. If you don't have a high compressi0on head on the bike, you do not need to spend extra money for race fuel. I don't like the pump alky in my fuel though (usually around 10% alky), so I use the 90 octane REC (no alky) fuel sold at gas stations. Some area's have 93 REC fuel.

      They are beautiful pipes, but I don't think they make a rugged off road lower rpm pipe.
