- The documentary "Little Richard: I Am Everything" explores the enormous influence of pioneering rock architect Little Richard, both as a musician and as a queer icon. Director Lisa Cortes presents the many fascinating contradictions of this legendary performer, who was wildly flamboyant but also denounced his homosexuality and turned toward the church. Christy and Alonso review the film, which features interviews with Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, John Waters and many more. Available now in theaters and on demand.

I neeed to watch this!!
Yes!
"The genius of Madonna is that she's always thew third person to do something" What a brilliant line.
It is.
Lemmy (from Motorhead)... his musical hero was Little Richard. He talks about him in his own documentary. He said "If you think you're tough, try growing up black and gay in 1930s Macon Georgia".
That’s awesome.
@@BreakfastAllDay .....oh....you should hear him lose control when someone mentions ELVIS....
Other than Elvis, those pre- Beatles artist don’t get talked about often enough Little Richard, Chuck berry, Ray Charles and fats domino all genius artists. Players, songwriters and architects of rock and roll.
For sure! You'll have to check out this movie and let us know what you think.
Little Richard popped up on both the James Brown and Elvis movie…ohh and the Frankie Lymon film too…
And now he gets his own!
@@BreakfastAllDay they actually did a biopic on him back in 2000….but it was made for tv and it’s hard to find on dvd. Shame as it’s really good.
Documentary is possibly my favorite film genre, and this one looks like a real winner. So stoked to see it. Thanks as ever, Christy and Alonso.
Great, let us know!
I'm finally first@something! (That sounded sadder than I planned.) You guys are great! Favorite reviewers.
Thanks for watching and being first!
And the winner is.....ME! (Grammys 1988)
Yes, that moment is in there!
Macon Georgia has a remarkably good annual Film Festival, so I hope this will make an appearance this year. I have walked through the alley where Little Richard was arrested many times before.
Oh wow!
Looking forward to watching this. I'm a white guy from England in my 30's and I've loved little Richards music since I was a kid.
You'll have to let us know what you think!
Catching up on this review because I just watched the documentary and I work at Ford’s Theater and we just did a musical called Shout Sister Shout at Fords which is a bio musical about Sister Rosetta Tharpe! Jennifer Hudson and Common came to see it so maybe they might put something together 👀
Do you guys have playlist for 2020 reviews? I’m trying to catch up on older videos ✌️
Hi, thanks for asking. 2020 was wacky (in so many ways) and the quality of the videos was inconsistent because we were just figuring out Skype and Zoom. Is there something in particular you're looking for?
@@BreakfastAllDay no worries, I get it! I’ve caught up on plenty of old videos and I’ll keep watching new ones
Thank you both, great review!
Thanks for watching!
There is a brief (1 hr) docoumentary of her on UA-cam: "The Godmother of Rock’n’Roll - Sister Rosetta Tharpe"
Good to know, thank you!
Thank you! I'm a docu geek!
Thank you, Rene! Let us know if you see this.
8.4 ? that's so Pat Boon
I am a limited number of things.
Well only Little Richard can be everything.
5:33 Alonso is a villain 😭
Ha! Very devious.
No evil dead rise review????
We haven’t had a chance to see it yet, Alonso has been busy finishing his latest book. We can try to catch up with it, thanks for your kind suggestion.
No Little Richard, no Prince. And that's just not a world anyone would want to live in.
Truly!
Alonso remembers Bob Dylan's Evangelical period. #KeithGreen
Not surprised it didn't last.
when did it end? 1983?
Ya'll review a movie about LR and not once say racism...🤣🤣🤣
Hi, Ms P, thanks so much for watching and commenting. One of the first things Alonso said was how people couldn't handle Little Richard's blackness. We also discuss how difficult it was for him growing up black and gay in the South in the '50s, and how the music industry put a white face on his songs to make them palatable for middle America. That would seem to address the racism he endured, don't you think?
If the music is hot enough, you can get away with anything.
