I have been doing this up, elbow, right palm for a month, and it’s been working so well, more distance, less effort... well except I didn’t do the up and elbow. 😁. I am excited to try this full sequence tomorrow, it’s going to add in another whole dynamic, Smart bloke this Steve.
never really understood how the right arm works until now...plus you've provided a way to practice this move...wow! i'm so excited for my golfing future...up, elbow, right palm
It’s only mentioned briefly, but I really liked “arms in front of the body”. I just discovered this key factor (rediscovered?). It helps me not snatch the club back behind me, which leads to all sorts of trouble. Nice to hear someone who knows confirm that as being important. Also, when I can get closer to that extra 1/2 second my iron shots are more accurate AND I feel my swing is free of stress. That’s a more pleasant way to play the game.
What a great feel. May have to change my downswing key after hitting some balls with this information. With this, it feels like I am just lifting the right arm to it's bent position and then feeling that bent right arm rotate thru the space between me & the ball. Very clean!
Steve you’re an excellent teacher who simplifies the art of golf. I wish I lived in your area because I would definitely take a few lessons from you. I tend to make this game harder than it is and I struggle with consistency on every single shot. Perhaps overthinking too much I believe.
Took this idea to the range tonight and what a difference - really good flight, distance and accuracy. Need to take this to the course this weekend. Thanks for all your help.
I found this incredibly helpful and it was just in time as I am playing a round tomorrow. What I love about this is that it really helps you to turn your body first instead of your hands first because you focus on pulling your elbow in to your hip and then release the hands after. It creates a wonderful motion and rhythm. I tried it in the garden with some airballs and it worked great. Cant wait to try it out on the golf course tomorrow. Always excellent instruction from Steve. He is such a natural player.
Timely video. This is an issue I have been struggling with. After watching I went to TopGolf for a practice session. The missing link to stop my over the top. Thanks.
Used this on the course today with swing thoughts 2 out of 3 - “up” and “elbow” . Not got the concept of palm yet. Felt I was more in control of the ball than ever and shot 4 below my handicap. Other ideas got from Steve is hands more in front of ball and more stable trail leg with weight on inside right foot.
Brilliant. Love it. Watched this video over breakfast and the went to the range. Wow! That’s the most consistent I’ve been all summer. This one’s definitely staying in my favourites!
Steve I am going to be in Scotland in June. Would like to visit your and personally subscribe to your videos. Even if it's your course Been watching you a long time and love to meet you!
Great video Steve. I have been playing golf since a kid and I only just happened to figure out the move you discuss for myself in the last few weeks. I've been crazy consistent since... Much more power and accuracy. One thing not mentioned that I would love you to do a video on - I have always been too in to out. I have found adjusting how far your right elbow is away from your body during the downswing really makes a big difference. If I push my elbow out a little away from my torso it helps me get very neutral (I did a trackman today). I would guess if someone is ' over the top / a slicer' pulling the right elbow closer to the torso would also really help.
Ooh Aah Eric Cantona 🙌🏽 Love it ... you just mentioned The King's name in the same sentence as Liam Boyce though?!! 😆😆 I'm not even going to ask who he is and I'm Scottish. Up (delay), elbow-right palm. Got it. Compression, come to papa ⛳
Mmmm …. Anything involving right hand or arm movements makes me leery. I know hogan says use that hand but only at the correct time; however, I find it tends to take over my swing with awful results. Steve’s drill however, helps me feel how it all comes together and with the half second pause, allows me to actually see my right hip move out of the way. Thanks!!👍
The right elbow to the hip is the hardest thing I've ever tried to do. I sometimes think I could learn to speak Chinese sooner than I could learn to do that.
This video is completely different from the ones where you talk about swinging more around your body. This one illustrates a more vertical swing plane. How do your square your inconsistent teachings!
@@stevejohnstongolf Thanks for the reply Steve but I'm still confused. In videos like, "Can golf Really be this Easy" and "Easy Way to Create an Inside Out Swing Path", how you are swinging the club in those two videos is so different from how you are swinging here. Are you advocating two different swings? If not, what am I missing? I'm not sure what you mean by shoulders/upper body continuously turn. Thanks.
NO I KNOW I CAN BEAT ANYONES BEST BUT BE AWARE I AM SCITZO AND IT MAY ONLY HAPPEN ONCE EVERY TEN THHHENNG AGGGRRRRRHHHH AHGRRRRRRRR NO WOLF EMOGIE WTF ?
You are criminally slept on. Love how simply you explain the physics required... Steve 'Feynman' Johnston

I won’t know till I rehearse, rehearse, rehearse, then do, do, do. Like the concept.
Let me know how you get on👍👍👍
EUREKA!!!! Mind blown 🤯
You may have just fixed my over the top action when you mentioned swinging with the lats. It's a great thought to stop an over active left shoulder
Thank you. Your explanation of the right hand movement changed everything. I went from shank to flush .😁
Well played Ray👍
This combined with your lesson of loading a bow on the backswing are excellent!!!
Thank you.
Up, elbow, down.
Arms in sync with torso.
Can't make it simpler than this.
Now to practice☺
And tucking shirt into arm pits. Confusing...
Eureka...got it at last... thanks Steve
Just found you online and 3 videos you have me hitting more pure iron shots!....THANK YOU!
you should be proud of yourself, your helping a lot of folks.
What an amazing swing thought and drill. And I love that braveheart accent!

Yeah this is a solid lesson. That half second pause is key to getting great tempo.
Golf instructions made easy, brilliant. Thank you! And I absolutely love the accent. :)
Steve you’re an excellent teacher who simplifies the art of golf. I wish I lived in your area because I would definitely take a few lessons from you. I tend to make this game harder than it is and I struggle with consistency on every single shot. Perhaps overthinking too much I believe.
I’ve never hit the like button so often! Thanks again, this one looks fun.
Took this idea to the range tonight and what a difference - really good flight, distance and accuracy. Need to take this to the course this weekend. Thanks for all your help.
Cantonaaaa.
Huge advice.
Nos i'm walking sayin' UP! Down and down ;)
great drill and thought bubble

Always excellent instruction from Steve. He is such a natural player.
This move is magic! You are the magician of golf! I'm off to the range to practice.....
Great drill. Up...elbow..right plam..easy to remember!
This is the best lesson I've ever seen. I would just add one thing to the palm move. I think of down and through with the palm to ensure release.
simple and superb
Timely video. This is an issue I have been struggling with. After watching I went to TopGolf for a practice session. The missing link to stop my over the top. Thanks.
spot on well done stevie
Another cracking video explaining the central concept from another perspective. As always v.simply by "feel" thanks

Not got the concept of palm yet.
Felt I was more in control of the ball than ever and shot 4 below my handicap.

Best tip I’ve heard in years, sorted my tempo out in one range session and easy to remember on course 👌
brilliant simple lesson - well done Steve!
Your tips are simple and informative
An Excellent lesson as always.
Brilliant! When the description fits the action… perfect simple, clear, tuition!
How many great instruction videos can this man deliver? I love them. Thanks Steve 👍🏻⛳️🏌️
Brilliant. Love it. Watched this video over breakfast and the went to the range. Wow! That’s the most consistent I’ve been all summer. This one’s definitely staying in my favourites!
Great drill! Thanks for making it memorable. Would you do anything different with driver (other than ball position at address)?
Clear useful instruction. Many thanks
Steve I am going to be in Scotland in June. Would like to visit your and personally subscribe to your videos. Even if it's your course
Been watching you a long time and love to meet you!
Please do!
Incredible how we're coming back to Hogan-esque basics. Thanks very much for bringing his book to life Steve.
Best compression video, good shit

Up, elbow-rightpalm.
Got it!
👍
One thing I have noticed is the pause gets a little harder to control on the back nine. Fatigue plays a factor for me. Great drill 👍
Great vid Steve…thx from SanFrancisco
Steve.. I am from Australia.. love your help... but slice high irons... got 2 ears my mate..
thanks Steve.. love your help
Hey great video, is there any chance you can make a video on how the lower half works on the swing please?
Good stuff
Love it! I've been improving my game everytime i see a new video from you! Can't wait to take this one to the range. I see consistency in my future!
Great tip thank you
Ooh Aah Eric Cantona 🙌🏽 Love it ... you just mentioned The King's name in the same sentence as Liam Boyce though?!! 😆😆 I'm not even going to ask who he is and I'm Scottish.
Up (delay), elbow-right palm. Got it. Compression, come to papa ⛳
Thank you for another great vid!
Steve reminds me of Tina Turner...., Simply the best!!
You are amazing Steve!! Love this!
Enjoyed this. Question. Is the right arm then controlling the backswing as opposed to the backswing being controlled by the left arm?
Is your dominate hand your right or left? Don't we do everything with our dominate hand?
Love this!
Thank you.
What was it again 🤔 lol, great drill and thought to use on the course, cheers Steve 👍
Steve...love your videos, but how do you reconcile this with your earlier videos (Hogan inspired) where the right elbow never leaves your side.
Love it
Cheers🌟
Real nice
That “1/2 second” pause is a key training point to me. Well done.

업 엘보우 팜~👍 is that drill driver swing same?
Dang...you hit a ball with one hand better than I do with both!?!?! I tried this but I often flair my shot out to the right. Not turning??
Looks like you are not using Eureka set-up?
Best drill ever. Try with out ball til you get the hang of it, hit 20 or 30 balls with one hand, then put your full grip and normal swing. Magic
Ok got it so it’s , up, elbow, right palm
Especially weight if that is cool?
I love that you still obviously get great pleasure from hitting a good shot.
Up…elbow…Roger Federer. Got it 👍🏼👍🏼
Hey Steve in your prior videos you emphasize that the right elbow never leaves your side
....on the downswing. It's impossible to perform a golf swing with your elbow on your hip.
I have come to the conclusion I know nothing about the golf swing! Thanks Steve
I'll be hearing that when I close my eyes tonight
So it’s …..fall back - around - wrist - lift head - flick - top - shank - trees - swear , Is that right?
Got it, palm, up, elbow dishwasher
The right elbow to the hip is the hardest thing I've ever tried to do. I sometimes think I could learn to speak Chinese sooner than I could learn to do that.
Awesome 😎
This is great. BUT ...??? Palm facing the ground? Really. If you open your right hand on the grip at impact, is the palm not facing the target?
Imagine trying to elbow yourself in the family jewels, but your hips protect you by turning away lol
Anyone else get anxiety hoping he'd hit the soccer ball before the end of the video? Oh.. just me? Cool... cool cool.
You forgot to tell us to GET LOW when striking with palm down.
Lang may yer rum leek! Keep the hied
This video is completely different from the ones where you talk about swinging more around your body. This one illustrates a more vertical swing plane. How do your square your inconsistent teachings!
It doesn’t as the shoulders/upper body continuously turn

Please stop saying up elbow palm

SCAFFOLDING POLARITY ANYONE ?
Effortless
so irritating - maybe good advice but unwatchable..
