Hi Ben, I was sorry to hear you’re a little down about things. I thought I’d comment because as you say, it’s good to get feedback from people instead of just seeing a number. And as a content creator myself I share a lot of your frustration.
First, you’re my favourite travel content creator, although that might be because I’m biased towards a fellow Geordie aha. I was looking to go somewhere last March and your video on Riga convinced me to go. I had a great time!
I understand the frustration of spending a lot of money on content making but not seeing the results you want. I spent thousands filming recently in Northern Ireland but the views I’ve been getting are disappointing. Yet videos I’ve put minimum effort into sometimes get hundreds of thousands of views.
My advice would be don’t see this as a full time job, because nobody likes their job. See this as a hobby. Film at your own pace, in your own time, and for your own satisfaction. Sometimes the algorithm boosts you well, sometimes it doesn’t. Honestly it’s very random. You’ve had the pleasure of seeing so many great places and your series has given you a great journal of events. In years to come you’ll be incredibly glad you did it. But don’t spend a trip worrying about views or editing or locals in the comments. Honestly fella your videos are very well done and capture the places you see so well. I hope you continue to make videos, but I hope you don’t lose your passion for travel more importantly.
I’m currently preparing to go to Tallinn. Why? Because your video showed me how beautiful it looks!
    All the best.

Ben, I genuinely like your videos better than any other UA-cam travel videos. They feel genuine -- no manufactured enthusiasm for everything, little music playing through the whole video so you can't appreciate the sounds of the place, and a regular guy on a budget. I often find myself wondering how much UA-camrs can enjoy travel when it becomes a job -- especially if you are doing it solo!

    • @BenRobson123

Wow - that's some compliment Stephen! Thank you. And it can be a bit tough solo sometimes - way harder to have fun and have a laugh. Every experience is better shared with a good friend!

I’ve watched the whole Lost in Europe series too, Ben, and really enjoyed it from start to finish. You’ve hit the nail on the head with the fake/forced glamour that some others only portray in their travel videos. Constant positivity is fine, when it’s real, but is that ever real life? Your honesty and being down to earth shines through way more and, for me anyway, hits the mark so much more with making your content much more enjoyable to watch and more relatable. I genuinely looked forward to the next episode in the series.
If you keep posting travel videos, I’ll keep watching. Brasov and Ohrid, for example, went right on my list, inspired purely by your videos.
    Take it easy 😎

That's fantastic, really pleased you watched the lot Dean.
I did worry a bit about potential backlash from being a bit brutal sometimes, but also with me whinging a bit in parts. But It means a lot to know that the authenticity and honesty is appreciated. I'd love to continue building an audience where I can reflect that openly.
      All the best mate

Hi Ben. I'm from the U.S. I love your videos and all the beautiful (and not so beautiful) places you share, but mostly I love listening to you talk and hearing your take on things. You are honest, grounded, and seem like you would be a great friend. UA-cam is a numbers game and sadly, success doesn't necessarily reflect the amount of effort you put into your content. The algorithm is pretty random in what videos get picked up, so the trick is just putting out more videos and seeing what catches. It also seems to help if you have a regular upload schedule, from what I heard. Anyway, I hope you continue to make videos, even if it's just you talking to a camera at home about life and the world. :)

Thank you, Ben. I watched most of your series and I enjoyed your presentations and honest revelations of the places that you visited. You set me straight on where I definitely do not want to visit. Your honest and candid representations are important for travelers who are not as adventurous as yourself. I always need to come home after a long trip but the spirit of adventure is still in me. As I am now 71 years old I do prefer the more confortable travel mode but when I was younger I did like the off-the-road adventure that you took on this trip. DON'T GIVE UP ON TRAVEL AND ADVENTURE. There is a very big world out ther for you to explore and it is not all bad! Thanks, again!

Really enjoyed the whole series, even the slightly grumpy ones :D I've always appreciated how natural your videos are - they're not overly scripted or purposely wacky and zany, just a chilled adventure wandering around new places and seeing what's there. Makes it way more natural and realistic, and (for me, at least) much more enjoyable to watch than many other travel channels. You've done an amazing job with this series - it's a shame that it hasn't quite got the views you were hoping for yet, and I can't even begin imagine how knackering it must have been to put it all together, but it genuinely has been really enjoyable to watch. Best of luck with whatever you get up to next! x

I completely agree with you that social media nowadays paints a too perfect picture. I love that you talk about the troubles you have while being traveling for so long, important to remember that backpacking isn't always the picture perfect vacation. It's always good to take some time and have an honest reflextion on a trip. That always makes me appreciate the routine the "normal" life has :D i guess in the end it's all about balance and listening to yourself.

So much I could comment on. Watched about half of your stuff and hope to finish the series. I get the frustration with UA-cam. I’m in a totally different niche, but in the same boat. I agree with giving yourself some time. You kept up such a grueling schedule it’s no wonder you are burnt out. Whatever you decide, just make sure it’s what you want to do, not what UA-cam wants. Hi Ben, I found your channel a few months back while searching for Newcastle, my hometown, and where I still live. I am enjoying watching your videos, and you seem like a genuine and nice person. I think you are a little down at the moment, but don’t give up, your work is appreciated and once you’ve rested, I think you will probably get the travel bug again. Totally agree about social media, it’s a Pandora’s box of good and bad and probably does exert an undue negative influence on peoples lives. Hey bud this was really honest. In terms of travelling, I think you have to go to places you find genuinely interesting and do what interests you rather than trying to hit the landmarks or Instagram spots as I agree that gets messy and doesn't make you happy. For me for example, the idea of going to Rome or Paris or places like that don't interest me but going somewhere smaller, less touristy, more in nature is my absolute fav thing and I pick to travel that way.

Agree with a lot I think when travelling you gotta go somewhere for a purpose. Don’t just a visit a city for the fun of it. Visit places that have things that interest you. Like I went to a Warsaw because I wanted to see a legia warsaw game and the uprising museum and I loved it. I then went to krakow and Nuremberg for Auschwitz and the other WW2 things and found it very different to Warsaw. But yeh I get what you mean. I went Paris once for no reason but to just see a another city and found it boring. I guess my point is. Travel to places that have stuff you want to see 👍🏻

I mean while you are in Newcastle maybe worth trying stuff like Ben Morris' most viewed vids? You can do that stuff w/o leaving your home town. They tend to perform well. Not hard to make. That content attracts more or less the same audience as the travel content.

    • @BenRobson123

I have watched a few of his videos actually - which ones are you referring to?

    • @tomashalusek9181
      @tomashalusek9181 Рік тому

lets say the deliveroo style stuff. Not his latest stuff that no one is interested in. Just open his channel and choose vids ranked by the most watched ones. And you can try the same with Luke Korns. These are two youtubers that come to my mind when it comes to vids that wasnt hard to make yet they typically gain traction well. Their later stuff when they decided to make their channels more artsy though sucks and views got smaller.
Also look up the guy Tom from Texas or something like that. He's an American with Russian gf and he makes shorts mainly. His shorts that he filmed in Russia like showing what Russian supermarkets had etc gained good amount of views too while the effort from him was minimal.
The point is that these things are cheap to make. You dont really have to go anywhere. Doesnt take much time. Audience seems to love that stuff. And realistically you look pretty cute so typically that really helps such simple vids when the presenter looks cute.
Actually I been planning to do youtube for a while but kept postponing for various reasons. Mostly interested tho in vids that dont include a presenter. Yet I have lots of stats and data what kinds of vids perform well why how etc. So if you have an email added in your acc as contact option I can send you a message this week. Maybe I might help a bit. Cuz I have all that data and its not like what you are doing competes against what Im planning to do in any way. So I have no reasons not to share what I learned over the course of last few years. @@BenRobson123

Hello! Just starting to catch up on your videos now. I totally get what you mean about how UA-cam wants positive content, they want people spending millions to get a 5 min video because people simply don’t have the attention span to watch a 30 min video (I blame TikTok) I find comfort in your videos because they seem REAL, it’s like you’re sitting with me actually telling me how your travelling went haha.
