    Had my MLM2pro for about a year now and its great. If you can live without angle of attack, face to path and swing path, this thing is great. To get those 3 additional specs you need about spend several thousands of dollars more.

    Great analysis guys. As a radar device the lack of spin on the MLM should be a non-issue on the range as the device should show the correct flight dynamics, which it clearly did. I think the blip on the 7 iron carry data was more a GC3 issue because if you compare shots 1 and 2 there should be very little difference in carry between those shots as ball speed within 1 mph and launch angle only 1 degree out and these should cancel each other out. The MLM had the same carry whereas GC3 had 11 yards difference which appears way too much given the other dynamics.
    As an aside Rapsodo do need to sort out the roll out on wedges as still seems to be too high at mid teens in yards.

    i wonder if rapsodo is willing to partner up with driving ranges and give them a number of devices and people can rent them for 10-15 bucks an hour or something like that and for them to provide the range with balls with the dots on them. that would be sick! if you offer this and have the store sell your product, thats a win win situation.

    Working out the averages on such a small sample size seems a bit meaningless especially when one of the three shots is an outlier as it was with the 7 iron. Regardless of that the Rapsodo performed extremely well. Very impressive unit when working properly. I've seen other videos and read a lot of complaints about connectivity issues. Don't know whether that is down to user error or some units are just not working properly but when it is working properly this thing is very impressive.

  • @larrybud
    @larrybud 11 місяців тому

    Here's how these machines work: The machine has built-in spin values for the club which is selected. "Average" spin values. That's why you have to select the club used in the MLM.
    So if the player has spin numbers for his shot which are close to what is preprogrammed into the machine, then you'll get calculated distances which are close to accurate. If your own shots aren't close to what is preprogrammed, then distance will be off. But there's no way to know without comparing it to something. Throw in a couple of other players in there and you'll get varying results. Get a player who is super spinny with the driver for example, and it won't be close. There's a reason they have special balls so that spin is measured. If spin wasn't important, then you wouldn't need it.
    Is 4 yards good enough for a 7 iron? That will be up to you, but that's almost half a club. Is that good enough for gapping?
    Side note that ball speed is easy to measure accurately. I have an old radar unit (probably 15 years old) that I put up against a trackman and ball speed was within +/-1 mph on the same shots.
    One other final comment: You went through the whole testing procedure and only hit 3 balls... I don't understand that. Hit 20 balls for each club and you'll know how many outliers are typical.

    Super helpful, thanks! I'm primarily looking for a device to bring to the range with me to help me practice my distance control inside 150 yards. Seems perfectly capable of that. I was also impressed with the accuracy on the longer clubs too. It might even be accurate enough for meaningful gapping analysis.
    I'd be curious how accurate the dispersion is vs GC3? It'd be awesome if it was accurate enough to get a sense for my shot patterns with different clubs so I could use it to inform my on-course strategy.

    With the launch direction, it seems the rapsodo showed around 0.7degrees more left on every shot, could it be that the unit was just pointing 0.7degrees more to the right than actually misreading slightly?
    Good review

    • @NamsonTran-lx4zs
      @NamsonTran-lx4zs Рік тому +1

      Agreed. Also there are slight errors in the calculations for the "difference" column for launch direction in Golfcity's big table of data in the video. They should all be negative numbers, showing the MLM2PRO is consistently measuring more left by -0.9 to -0.7 for launch direction. Makes the MLM2PRO even more impressive.

This unit is for better amateurs and it shows. The GC is in another league and is priced thereafter. I don’t think a lot of pro’s will be folding one of these out on the range on wednesdays before the tournament starts. I wonder how much callaway is paying for the unit in reality. And i have a feeling that club and ball data will come , but behind the paywall, after they have sold 300k units.

    I wonder how the Rapsodo got reasonably accurate carry distance and shot shape without calculating spin into the equation, or is it actually measuring spin and putting it into the equation but not showing the spin number because they aren't confident its being accurately measured? On a range using range balls and being able to actually see the shot shape, I'd love to have club path and face angle data so I can see what actually contributed to the shot shape. With a 240fps camera in the unit I can't understand why they aren't offering that data. If the Garmin R10 can do it with reasonable (dubious) accuracy then surely the Rapsodo can give us something to help us focus on the swing itself.

    I hate to be this person, but your data (~7:55 mark) is off..
    I see a few Difference Averages that don't make sense to me but maybe some data was hidden or something.
    Basically all of the Difference Averages for the Driver are off.. 1+1+4 = 6. 6/3 = 2. You have 2.5. 1+0+1 = 2. 2/3 = 0.66. You have 0.5. -0.8 - 0.7 - 0.7 = -2.2. -2.2/3 = -0.73333. You have -0.7. 0.1+0.5+0 = 0.6 0.6/3 = 0.2. You have 0.25
    Another example: the Launch Direction of the Wedge, the "Difference" should be in absolutes. For the 1st shot, you have a difference of -0.9. The difference is actually 0.9 (no negative). The difference between -1.6 and -0.7 is not -0.9, but 0.9.
    This oversight also affects the overall Average of the Differences. Using the -0.9 instead of 0.9, you do in fact come out w/ a 0.2333 average. However, if you use the 0.9 (not negative), the difference average comes out to be 0.8333 which is a decent enough difference.
    Both 0.2333 and 0.8333 are great numbers! I'm just looking out for you in case this kind of issue happens again and really affects potential buyers' view of the data. I really don't think this case will sway anyone either way, but whatever lol.
    Sorry to be "that guy" or the nerdy guy, but gotta keep ya honest!

    Why did u choose to test the MLM2 vs R10 Indoors and made a huge deal about how much better and accurate the MLM2 was due to its ability to measured spin axis with RPT balls then u essentially dismiss the importance of spin axis outdoors bc the MLM2 can’t measure this with range balls? and u did not include the R10 in this outdoor test where both units would be on par with each other?This is very much a paid infomercial for Rapsodo… and I own the MLM2. How about commenting on the all the MLM2 issues - poor connection, crappy poor software, the fact that unit is single player only, no landscape mode, the fact that spin data , Sim use, 3rd party integration is hidden behind a $200 yearly paywall fee? All this is free on the R10. This test is clickbait, paid advertising, and flawed similar to your initial testing comparing the R10 and MLM2. This device has some impressive features but we need more objective testing to highlight them.

      Yep. The costs going forward is where it gets expensive with the Rapsodo(never mind the lack of spin reading at the range) and I don’t think it’s focused enough on. After the free year, it’s $200 that you must pay in order to get some critical stats, connect to third party apps and also use the sim abilities(single player only). And unless they changed from the MLM 1, it is paid annually, no month to month choice.
      With the R10, you don’t need to sub AT ALL to get all the stats available and also connect it to 3rd party apps. And, if you wanna use the Home Team Hero sim abilities(which allows for multiple people), you can simply pay for just 1 month at $10, play and then you can cancel as Garmin offers a month to month option

      You can use it on the course with the Xs and get the realist data there is. The pay wall sucks but 5 years of ownership is still half the price of the next best option. I spent 4 months trying to find something better for under $1500 and ended up biting the bullet last week.

    Spin not so important for me. Descent angle is huge

    SPIN SPIN SPIN and Ball Speed are all that matter for every club up to Driver on the Range except to a lesser extent launch angle. With SPIN and Ball Speed and angle you can pretty much dial your game, without SPIN you can't end of story.

    Neither is accurate unless you actually measure where the ball lands on the range . Whys is no one doing this . The GC3 can be out just like any thing . All that matters is distance and direction .

    3 shot average is meaningless. Do 10+ and the averages will go way down.
