I don't use my garage for my car but I made the same setup. Raised tracks for 350$ and bought wall mounted opener on special. Made a frame for my impact screen using electric tubing and it's hanging off the tracks (in front of the door) using heavy duty rubber bungees... this way I can lift it up when I need to work on car. rest is all DIY with old movie theaters... mevo is on back wall and it's perfect.. Cheap Epson business projector from costco, a couple of high speed USB cameras, a spare monitor and I got myself the perfect golf studio to practice and play.
You got a fantastic deal on the door conversion. That liftmaster jackshaft alone in texas is around 1200 installed. High lift track and springs is another 800 at least.
I literally got the exact same thing done to my garage door a few months ago. Lifted the tracks, added the side installed motor and it cost me $800 (CAD) cash 😅🤷♂️
Would recommend getting the hdmi to micro usb adapter that allows for power pass through via an additional usb c port for long sessions or when you forget to charge your iPad
This was excellent, as soon as I get home I'm measuring my garage. It's a 3 car so the car issue isn't a factor. I can probably avoid any garage door issues by reversing the whole project and putting the impact screen against the garage door.
If your looking to build a sim do what ever you can to get the aspect ratio correct so you can have the image projected all the way to the floor. The black blocking above and below the screen is bush league
Man im currently building a 24x24 garage and going with a full sim. But ive used a mlm2pro and a net in the back yard the last few months and man its such a good little setup. Cant recommenced it enough. Im even keeping the mlm2pro for the sim atleast for afew years till I have a much bigger budget to upgrade. Also I would like to add that the mlm2pro can connect to windows PC's via Bluetooth using a free open sourced software connector and can be used to play GSPRO software.
I mean if your clubs goes anywhere near the in the swing you need massive lessons. Think about it, the only time the clubs in the middle under the monitor is the lowest point of the swing
I like the idea for optimising the garage door but I‘m sure you could have saved money here by extending the rails so you can get higher and then mount the motor closer to the roof. This would probably mean you would have to extend the chain too so that when closing the doors it still closes fully but I‘m sure it would have worked. Thanks anyway for this video I‘m happy to try some ideas for myself!
Very nice setup and instructions! I am researching installing a golf sim in the garage although with a little more budget (approx. $8K). So, looking at a wider screen (12-14X8X5) size to get a16:9 ratio option. And perhaps skytrak+ and/or the garmin R50 (does not require a PC). Agree, the Mats are key and will spend more on quality options for that. So, presume in your setup, no problem swinging driver with the projector? My ceiling height is 9ft and at 6'2, a longer driver (long shaft) swing can hit the ceiling (need to use shorter shaft). 👍
Great build. Although, I have a net set up in the garage using a iPad. One thing I noticed is that the LED light bulb in my garage affects the Swing vision camera recording of the shot. What lighting source do you recommend to use and where to place the light source. Your response is greatly appreciated.
I'd be curious if there was a system that just uses a TV screen on the side instead of a projector - would that be a cheaper approach? (Assuming you have a TV already).
If space allows, I helped make a slanted ramp that the mat under the screen sat on and would slope into a channel leading to your hitting space and act as a ball return. Relatively inexpensive. Half inch sheet of plywood and a couple pieces of lumber.
What I don’t like about the MLM 2 Pro is you can’t just use any ball you want to get your spin numbers. If I am doing a practice session on a simulator I would like to use the same ball I do while on the course.
Great setup, respect the detail and insight, but in the end, couldnt help but this was basically a Play Better promo ad for you to also get margin from with your coupon
I wonder what other launch monitors can be paired with this setup. I like the hitting bay being all in one package. But would like to have the option to upgrade the launch monitor eventually but keep the same hitting station.
I would make a system to fold up the carpet and hitting mat into screen. I plan to use third bay of my garage. Could use screw eyes into the wall to hold up screen
Awesome video and build! As someone who is seriously considering doing the same thing, I have a couple questions...1. Can you sync the Rhapsodo up with a TV monitor or something larger than an iPad or tablet? 2. Does the Rhapsodo app software allow you to play actual sim golf on different courses and if so, how many course options are available? Thanks!
Great questions...first you can sync the Rapsodo up with a TV (instead of a projector) The way I do it sometimes is to use airplay to mirror the image from my iPad to my smart TV. As for the sim golf, yes the Rapsodo comes with its own built-in simulation. Its pretty good but if you want something more robust you can pair the Rapsodo with a third party simulation software like E6 or Awesome Golf.
Also quick question about the mat - it doesn't look wide enough for hitting driver. Any chance you can do a driver video in a garage setup? I would imagine sound/etc would be tough but it does look like space is limited.
I just hung up a cloth and put pillows underneath it, I can practice chipping but since I don't wanna damage the door behind it I only practice chipping on it, I live in an apartment so works in small environments and is completely DIY just used some kite string or matter of fact you could use any string to do this. then just set up a swing analyzer or something of the sort and it works. Unfortunately no projector but you could probably add one if you get the placement correct and the backstopper is there to make it flat.
Dude, a few more bucks for a bucket of paint on the walls. Just saying... But great job and you know it is going to be a golf buddy center, especially in the winter. So, start working on the bar and stools and the big screen tv. lol Great job guy!
How far back are you positioned from the screen while hitting? I have a 10.5ft x 11.5ft space and trying to figure out where I would need to hit from. Thank you!
Amazing job! Question for you: how far is the projector from the screen? I’m think about the hitting mat being 8 feet away and curious if you ever have to worry about a pop up making contact with the bottom of projector
Hello I didn’t see the discount code at the end of the video, I’m looking for a simulator .I have a few questions,do you come close to hitting your projector that is mounted on the front of your simulator.and I noticed that your simulator is it back to the wall,do you have 6 inches away from wall or a foot or do you have some padding behind the wall .only reason I’m asking is that your simulator is exactly the way I need to set it up,I’m using the width of my garage and no t the length like you have your simulator.and I have to install a side mount garage opener
For the distance between ball to wall, is it 8 or 10 ft ? And how far exactly do I need behind the ball? I am having extremely difficult time to get it right lol
For the Rapsodo you need 8ft of travel from the ball to the net and the Rapsodo itself needs to sit about 6-8 feet behind the ball for it to work best.
Can you get a setup like this in the Philippines, without having to order it and pay a crazy amount of import taxes and fees? We're custom building a home in the next couple years, and I'll have one of these type of setups in our home.
@@Golficity you can put an electric heater in there for like $500 and it may cost you like $50 a month in electricity. well worth it imo. just need a 240 line.
That super budget version.... does the data load up to a computer where you can see the shots like you were overlaying? Also does it have stuff like swing path, club face, etc?
Thanks for a great video. Does the hitting enclosure expose the frame work to ball ricochets? Some hitting bay makers line the frame with padding to prevent balls from impacting the frame work and bouncing around at high speed. Also, can you hit a lob wedge with the projector mounted so low? Thanks.
Love your videos! How would you compare the quality of this enclosure to the Carl's place DIY? Also, what are your thoughts on their Pro series as well? Thanks.

Typical of a sales video to only announce the price at the end. He didn't exactly "build" a home simulator either, he got one off the shelf, click bait. It ruins it for you when you start seeing through this and then wonder about the hole in one at the end, could well be some pre-recorded demo just to hype up some people who are easily persuaded and who needed that wee nudge to go and buy it. Not only but he doesn't add Amazon links in the description because he is a nice guy and wants to make it easy for anyone to find these exact products but because he'll earn a commission when people click and buy.
The projector is well out of the way of my golf swing and I've taken lots of swings in the sim without ever getting close to it. The way its designed to fit with the enclosure is pretty smart in that way.
hey guys great video, love your content. I have bought the rapsodo mlm2 pro. Just want to make sure that exact samsung galaxy tablet works with the rapsodo. trying to piece my simulator project together little by little. Thanks guys have a great day. I’ve gotta get your garage guy to do my garage. The quotes I got to do exactly what your guys did was over 2 grand🙄 I swear there just isn’t any honest workers/companies in my area anymore. Literally wanted the same design y’all did, genie side mount and all. I too have 9.5ft garage ceilings.
@@JustMeAP1 I completely agree. 10’ or higher would be ideal. Unfortunately the house I bought was already built and unless requested for higher ceilings, most homes garage ceilings standards are set at 9.5ft. My neighbor who got me into golf a couple houses down had a custom poured foundation so his basement is 12ft in depth. He did that specifically so he can put his golf sim in his basement. Brilliant idea, he just had to pay more(for this custom foundation) when building his home obviously lol. I’m fine with 9.5ft ceilings as I’m only 6ft tall. Definitely cutting it close though lol.
@Blackcloud319 6 feet tall is too tall for a project at under 8.5 ft (as in this video), even with an iron. Only useful for chipping. Even 9.5 would be a problem if a taller friend ever wanted to come over. Good news: your backyard has a taller ceiling. Moreover, my backyard setup was HALF the price. Just saying. Your choice if you want to replace a $1,000 projector every time you use it.
@@JustMeAP1 oh I don’t have a projector nor will ever get one. I just sync my iPad to a larger tv that sits to the side. I’m not very tech savvy so the projector and impact screen aren’t a very high priority for me lol. I concur that the backyard would be ideal, however, I’ve already hit balls through two hitting nets. Actually the last time I did that, the ball went into my wall in my garage lmao! I got a heavy duty hitting mat, it should last a bit longer than just a normal golf net. Also, in my garage I don’t have to worry about rain or any other weather like snow and such. My garage gets plenty warm with just a space heater during the colder months.
@@Blackcloud319 Before my cage, I also had a net that I hit into with no problems. But after the cage, I and others hit several shots that would've gone outside the net. A golf ball came AT my house this year. Cost my neighbor's insurance $6,000. I don't see how people hit through nets, but I hear of it happening all the time. Now, my cage has a double net AND the impact screen - which causes balls to fall straight down instead of often straight back past me (so it's huugely more than just for the projector). The other big advantage of the cage is allowing me to tee-up farther from the net (nearly ten feet instead of less than six). This gives the launch monitor much more time to read the ball's motion for more accurate readings. I live in Tucson. No colder months. Generally, I would not consider weather anyway. More to the outdoor point, IMHO, are Asian Tiger Misquitos that have invaded the South. lol "oh I don’t have a projector nor will ever get one. I’m not tech savvy so the projector and impact screen aren’t a very high priority." Trust me, the projector is VERY cool - but much better at night. It is still visible during the day. My huuge problem with this video is the lack of any discussion about how it's EASY it is to hit it installed over your head. THAT (again IMHO) is a bigger issue than not feeling "tech savy" about forgoing one. The biggest tech issues are keystoning - to get a sidewise light make a square image, and how you plan on casting your phone (not a simple issue with Android tablets). Both my S24U phone and MS tablet can use a USB-C to HDMI convertor (as done in this video) but no Android tablets would.
does anyone make a 8ft enclosure with the projector mounted to the enclosure. i have a 10ft ceiling and 16ft in length space. We love to sim in my garage shown just not 10ft.
The Garmin r10 is like half the price and pretty much the same technology if were talkin budget. I'd trust Garmin over rapsodo. Garmin make 15 thousand dollar fish finders for deep sea fishing. They gots alot more skin in the game when it comes to radar based technology.
my first mat was a maxflight mat. lasted less than 30 days b4 totally fucked. the rubber was dry. i was learning, taking big divots. or would be big divots. but i could make a better mat and that thing wasnt cheap
Can you hit a regular tee on that mat that comes with it or do you have to use those cone plastic things? Is the "putting mat" that it comes with have any padding or is it just indoor outdoor carpeting? Thanks, ordering today.
The hitting mat is fairly deep so I have been able to get a tee in it but you can’t push it in too far. The cones may work better overall. The other mat is essentially like outdoor carpet. You can roll putts on it but it’s not ideal for that. For anything more serious I’d advise getting a separate putting mat.

More to the outdoor point, IMHO, are Asian Tiger Misquitos that have invaded the South. lol
"oh I don’t have a projector nor will ever get one. I’m not tech savvy so the projector and impact screen aren’t a very high priority."
Trust me, the projector is VERY cool - but much better at night.
Can you run a garminr6 instead of rhapsodo?
I need JUST the enclosure. Don't see it listed
Roller shutter doors - not a thing in the US?
I like my rapsodo just wish the usb was the way to direct connect
what model ipad is it ?
It would be fun to see a real budget setup. Where you build all your self. Can you come under 2000 k then?
does anyone make a 8ft enclosure with the projector mounted to the enclosure. i have a 10ft ceiling and 16ft in length space. We love to sim in my garage shown just not 10ft.
Looks great, but do the balls bounce off that thin astroturf?
You should paint the inside of your garage.
The Garmin r10 is like half the price and pretty much the same technology if were talkin budget. I'd trust Garmin over rapsodo. Garmin make 15 thousand dollar fish finders for deep sea fishing. They gots alot more skin in the game when it comes to radar based technology.
Add a 2 -4 inch plywood subfloor so your not hitting off concrete.
My budget is an old comforter over a cloths line
my first mat was a maxflight mat. lasted less than 30 days b4 totally fucked. the rubber was dry. i was learning, taking big divots. or would be big divots. but i could make a better mat and that thing wasnt cheap
You should have asked a neighbor for a ladder 😂
Well this is frinkin awesome. Buying me one and doing the same
Send us the finished result!
How many product / company placements can you fit in 1 video….
I’m surprised no one is using a short throw projector.
I’m hoping they can somehow ship to Guam🙏🤞
Those windows are in trouble if I tried it 😛
at 10:39 looking a bit like Tom Selleck ... correction, looking like Tom Selleck all the time .. lol
Item # 1 next time,a Ladder 🪜
