Hi, Eric. This is 166 Missouri Kansas City (Richard). I just talked to you on the CB a few minutes ago. Thank you for the contact and it was a real treat to hear you on the radio since your UA-cam channel is what got me interested in getting back into the world of CB radio this summer. I'm running Bearcat 980 and an old Super Magnum ground plane antenna that I found in my barn that was my father in-laws from decades ago., 73s brother!
Several friends have 955's and love them. I've worked on a few and they're awesome. I recently tried the Anytone AT5555 N II and am very pleased with it in the vehicle. Very similar advanced menu to the Stryker.
I have owned this radio for a few years and it's an excellent radio for both 10 and 11 meters. Talked across the world on this impressive radio. Good purchase!
you can talk across the world on any radio if you have a good antenna, good feeder and propagation..!! you won't be doing that is five years time when Cycle 25 comes to an end.
Been out of the CB circles since 1979. Forget everything I knew which wasn’t much. I did talk a lot of SB and skip and had a BaseStation and mobile. This ‘meter stuff” is that getting into the Ham circle? Do I need a license to use those? What is the difference from those and the old 29 and 40 channel radios we had in the 1970’s? What is the lowest cost setup of Base and Att I can get started with now and actually talk out of my local area? Retired and on low fixed income so budget is limited. I had a lot of good memories from those days and still remember my handle, KEBT 6772 Star-duster. Farthest contact I remember making on SB was Newfoundland….
I run this radio in my daily driver pick up truck. I run a 102 inch stainless steel whip. I am based near Carson City, NV and have spoken to northeastern Canada and to Hawaii. I truly enjoy this radio. My numbers are 8149 and handle is Dakota.
I've been running the Stryker 955 for six years. Absolutely love it. No doubt the best radio on the market. I'm a truck driver my wife drives with me after owning the RADIO for five years we found ourselves driving two separate trucks I was talking to her while she was in our truck talking on the Stryker . I couldn't believe how good a sound that RADIO had. Remember it's not FCC approved. It puts out way too many watts.
We have a remote off-road cabin and we still use CB radio with our other remote neighbors in the area. We usually have it on when we are there. Many of us are seniors so it’s a good way to call for assistance.
I have two of these radios and run an amp with both, 5/8 base antenna and lmr400 coax. They need plenty of power to use their full potential. Separate power for radio and amp is ideal and is what I use. Good luck with the Stryker, you will enjoy it.
I have been on the radio since 1974. My first base station was a Lafeyette Telstat 140ssb in 1977. The year we went from 23 to 40 channels. I still use this radio at home at night. I use the Galaxy 2547 base here in my office here in midtown Manhattan. The Galaxy is great on AM and fair on SSB. The STRYKER is the most stable radio I have ever used better than ICOM or KENWOOD. I use my 995hpcs in my car and pickup truck . I need to keep my hands on the wheel not the clarifier knob. Its been modified and does 120W and I run it in to a straight 6 pill. I never had any problems and make contacts around the world while in traffic. You will be more successful running it as a base station. ENJOY !!!
@@RogerBrenonbased on my limited learning...cb is 11 meter...ham radio is 10 and 12 I think...but ham radios can be unlocked for cb channels aka 11 meters. But u need license to use ham radios. Cb radio should only be 4 watt 5 watt transmit. But unlocked ham radios will bump up watts on cb channels. But from my understanding everybody doing this so even if u buy a regular cb..u get stepped on by people that are talking on ham radios over powering u...idk..I'm still learning...anyone please correct me.
@@FarpointFarms is this a regular CB radio with upper & lower sideband ? Looking to get back into radios. It’s been probably 25 years since I’ve owned one. Thanks for any info you can give me.
Just installed my Stryker Radio 2 days ago my first skip contact was today it was South Texas and I live in southern West Virginia. I have it mounted in my Toyota truck with a Wilson 1000 magnetic antenna on top of the cab
Cool vid! ive had a 955 for a few years now in my personal and it amazes how good it works. i run a vhp 98 in my big truck too. both get the job done. thanks Eric
I bought a 655hpc last year for my truck I love it!! Now that I'm getting really into it wish I had bought the 955 for the upper and lower side band. Anyhoo great 👍 video!!
Welcome to the club. I’ve been talking across the US (AZ to east coast), into the UK and even Australia a few times for several years. I had it tuned up a bit and puts out 110w. Always getting great audio reports.
I too just bought a new 955. My last radio quit working about a week ago, it was a Lincoln II a good radio. The Stryker receive is much better, and man I thought the Lincoln talked but this radio is amazing. I put it in my truck with 102 inch steel whip and the first contact was Sydney Australia 50 miles north of the bridge, that was on ten meters 28.420. Great radio!
I got an RCI 2950, in my car a number of years ago. I had a blast with it! Then I got the RCI 2980 base. It was basically the same insides as the 2950, but it was an a large base cabinet. If I had to pic a con on the RCIs, it was that it was really a digital component. Everything was digital. It did not produce an analog sound as with many other radios. So the voice was 'synthesized,' via the radio, making you voice transmit in a low tone. 'Clear, with no static or background noise. And it wouldn't matter if you used a boost source with the radio, to crank up the sound. It always sounded the same... Low and faint. I tried using a linear power supply, pumping 300 watts! I tried a 200 watt modulation booster. I tried a powermic, to get more sound. But because it's processed through a synthesizer in the radio, the results were basically the same. It wasn't like the old Cobras, where you could clip a resister to get more modulation from the radio. And RCIs had that 'microcircuitry,' much like in today's modern computers and cell phones. The printed circuitry was embedded into the motherboard, to protect it from 'rough riding,' in a vehicle. So there wasn't really anything you could do to get any better sound other than was provided.
I recently purchased this radio and love it. I made my first contact to a station in upper NY and Ottawa Canada all the way from North Central Alabama. Enjoy your new toy, Eric. 73 from TinMan143
I order it for $459 in the USA and the device costs almost €700 to Germany. Do you have to understand that? I got the CRT 7900 for €250 and yes, the inside is the same as Stryker 😉
Excellent radios! Had one in the big truck and loved it now I’ve got the Stryker 447 about to go to the shop for a little tune up and then it will be going in. Great video, keep it up!
I love my 955. The volume and delay knob you were playing with controls the echo level and delay not dynamic but I’m sure you already figured that out. I’ve been waiting for this review! Great radio.
Great to here someone from my old home state, you up in Boon, Ashville etc, miss the tar heel state over the pond here, Radio working brilliant, I have the v3 here also, mainly dx into Europe from the UK here, will keep my ears open for you, hopefully when the skip returns 73's
I was on the radio last week and did make connection with Ireland and the UK. The skip gods were good to me that day. The mountains are still beautiful here
@@FarpointFarms ok. I thought it was code for something. Gotcha. So that’s your “handle” 😉Might as well get a HAM license and get an actual assigned call sign for yourself. That way it will be unique and you won’t be limited to 11 meters?? 👍
I been using my v1 955 for around 3 years now. I replaced all my caps upgraded finals, voltage regulator and d104 hand held doing about 120 peak. I run my d104 at about 2 and the mic gain on the radio @ max. I get tons of compliments on how clear my audio is. I had a pretty bad voltage drop when I bought the Raido but I replaced the caps and voltage regulator and that fixed the issue.
I've had one for several years now and love it. Although it don't put out as much power on AM as some of its siblings without doing some modifications. Mine will do 20 watts on AM at full power how about yours? I don't run it full power though because I don't want to disturb the rock quarry and asphalt plants. This radio is in my dump truck and everyone stays on the plant channel of the given area all day. I take it out every night and can use it as a base or mobile in our personal vehicles in just a few minutes. I fixed a Cobra 29 someone gave me and now its my base. I'd rather have the 955 there though in its place its just so much more awesome.
For anyone new to radio, you need to let them know this is not an average 11 meter CB radio but rather a 10 meter radio which is in the classification of "HAM" radio and requires at least a Tech Class FCC Amateur license to transmit
That is correct to TX on any Amateur frequency on any radio. A tech class license in the U.S. only allows a small portion of the 10 meter band from 28.000 to 28.299 MHz for CW (morse code) and 28.300 to 28.500 MHz for SSB voice and limits 200 watts of max power. No 12 meter operations at all unless the operator has a General class license and even then there are some limitations until an Extra class license is obtained. Most People easily covert these radios to transmit outside of the Amateur bands for CB use and the so called free-band frequencies. As long as they stay off the Amateur frequencies, let them do as they will because the FCC these days aren't likely enforcing it anymore. For the most part, stay above 26.000 MHz and below 27.800 MHz for transmitting and there shouldn't be a problem. Many mono band CB antennas can't transmit much passed that range before re-tuning anyway. I do encourage people to feel free and listen in on Amateur bands which is perfectly legal, just do not transmit there. Maybe this will encourage more to take their radio enjoyment to the next level and get an Amateur license! 73
I had one. Sadly it stopped working. Something about the cpu got to hot and melted the cpu board the striker tech said it was still under warranty so i got a President Lincoln 2 plus. Much more stable radio in my opinion. Anyway nice video. #12 Watkins Glen NY waving 🤘
Watching this really makes me want to get back into CB radios. I am 62 and remember back in the day when everybody had one. Can anyone give me an update on what you need nowadays. Do you have to get a license or can you just grab one and turn it on and get going. Thanks
Had mine for years now . It works well. 12 11 10 m all in one . When you talk you are hears . The Red Devil road Devil mic will pair up with hi audio & clear m clean transmit if the stalk mic i muffled . Anyone would love this radio . Not limited like president FCC radios.
Upgrade your Power Cord. The radio starves for power with the small wire that came with the radio. I also upgraded the fuse to blade type. I hate them round glass fuses. Been running this rig for 6 plus years now. Hope to catch on the bands 171 Central Mo.
Thanks Eric, I've been looking at one of those radios for a while. It's impressive. I'm currently running a Superstar 3900 out of my garage and a Uniden Bearcat 980 in the house. I think it's time to pull the trigger on a STRYKER . I just have to figure out a way to break it to my Wife. She keeps asking me ," how many radios does one man need? " My response is , " just one more". Lol 73
HaHaHa In all honesty she's pretty understanding .She usually just shakes her head and says," I don't get it ,but have fun". I really can't complain with that.@@FarpointFarms
Remember the standard phrase for radio guys: “But dear, it’s not a boat.” No matter how much you spend on radios, it’s still not as much as the dollars consumed by boat ownership.
About 4 years ago, I got back into CB, which I hadn't used since the early 90's, thanks to your videos. And I'm using a President McKinley and a 102" whip, also thanks to your videos. I've wanted to try FM, but the lack of SSB on the radios ive been looking at made me hold off. Now, again, thanks to you, I've found my new radio! I've spoken to two of the people you heard on 38LSB, 101 and Needle Bender. Also was surprised that i spoke to Mower Junkie one time, too. Still waiting to hear 707 when I'm driving around sometime! Thank you so much for your videos. You got me back into a hobby I gave up many years ago. I never even listen to the radio (music) in my truck anymore and the CB is always on. One odd thing and maybe you could tell me why, I got a more consistant SWR, and I also transmit and receive with my whip tied down. I have jt attached with a bracket i made that comes out between the bed and utility toolbox cap right behind the cab on the passenger side, and its tied down using paracord to the back of the roof rack. My friend said something about horizontal antennas working well with sideband, and although my antenna isnt completely horizontal, could that have something to do with it? Also, the SWR was going all over the place as the antenna moved. Is that the signal reflection off the truck, or is there another reason? Its consistant mow that its tied down and moves very little. Thanks again for all your videos. I hope to stop missing all your livestreams kike i have the last few years. I always enjoyed catching up to you. 146 signing off from Western Massa-two-sh!ts
Hey there! The 102 is a great antenna, but it does suffer from so much movement when driving that the signal pattern and SWR can change a lot. That said, I wouldn't sweat it. If it's low when standing still, it shouldn't ever get to the danger zone when driving around. Yes, some say SSB is better on horizontal antennas and they are sort of right. That idea comes from the fact that many of the larger base station setups use stacked beam antenna arrays and many of those are setup horizontal to cut down on the noise floor.

These radios rock! lots of power inside when turned up. modulation gets as loud as any. I'm looking for a 2k or larger tube amp. Any ideas? new preferably.
Hey from Texas. That 955 is something to be proud of. With all the rumors about terrorist coming over the border, I am preparing as much as i can.I do have both mobile and home cb's but i am trying to get good ham radios. I am learning as much as i can.I figure it might help if something happens.
I bought one of these brand new 6 months ago. Has been a great radio except that now 6 months later the channel selector knob is failing in a huge way.
@@FarpointFarms It's a fairly common thing for the 955 and the 655. It was working a bit better today. The issue is in the 'pot' they use, its actually called an encoder. Anyway it uses wax inside. The wax melts and with some help from gravity causes a bad connection. I'm not sure if there is a better replacement or if people are still just installing new factory parts, which do the same thing. Otherwise I love this radio.
I guess they have vastly improved them I had one I bought in 06 that was nothing but trouble no matter how well you kept the SW set the thing popped the finals I changed out every thing on the antenna system the SW was about flat and It did it again ! I had them replaced and sold it on EBay to get rid of it .
Awesome radio, very impressive. My wife just got me a new Radioddity QT40 10 meter radio for Christmas 12/25/23. I don’t even have it setup yet. Been impressed with the videos reviewing it though. Now that brings me to this moment. After watching your review on this new Stryker. Wow I’m really liking this one. I guess there is no law to keep me from having 2 new radios? 😂 Thanks for all you do and information you provide. Greatly appreciated. Hope you are having a great start to a New Year.
I just checked out a guys video ( he’s a CBer out of South Carolina ) on the QT40, an he shows how to make it 11 meter capable. And it has all kinds of settings.
While I definitely have a preference for vintage radios, I would love to have one of these. Problem is, they are all digital, and I don't want to work on one. It seems to be impossible to find a new one that has been converted for use on 11 meters.
I'm a big Cobra Guy this is my first Stryker. Had a custom-built by Lester's custom shop. Thing is absolutely amazing hears really well with a 102 steel whip on the roof.
As a young teen in '74 or so, I got a Cobra 29 base/mobile and I loved that radio! It was struck by lightning two years later, I still remember the fun I had. I'm 62, it's fun to remember the old days. Or should I say nights?
@@Truthman99 Quick story- A big storm came up, tv was out so the family was playing cards. Then a huge bang! We all were holding our ears. I got up early to feed the horses, there were white strings all around our house but laid out to in a perfect circle. It was the fiberglass big stick! I mean a near perfect circle.
Been out of CB radio for a few years. I enjoyed your. New base station there. What mobile antenna do you use? Is there? A specific. Bay station in tenor that you'd like to use.
Looks good bud!!! I always liked the garage look for what your videos were but having the display on the shelves it looks great!!! I'll have my base station setup soon so hopefully I'll get you on the skip!!!
Right on Erik, I was looking for one of those Strykers about a year ago, couldnt find one for whatever reason so I settled for the RCI 2970N3. Hopefully We can make contact sometime down the road. 73's from UDX 4570 Palm Springs,Ca Eric Dee.👋🤠⚡️🎙
Those are great radios! A couple of our locals have the version 1 & 2. If they can’t hear ya that, they’re not gonna hear ya at all!! Good video!! Have you ever considered putting up a set of beams?
I am a ham operator as well as GMRS but have a question for CB. Where do yall get the numbers you're using for a call sign? Just curious, always interested in a new avenue to radio. Also from NC
They are self assigned. It was something that came along in the mid 80's There might be 10 "Maddogs" on the air, so these handles that people used added numbers (3 of them) to the end to ensure that you were talking with "Maddog707".
I left CB some 16 years back. It was extremely fun and I had a blast....at first. In my area there was a lot of activity. Different groups of guys on different channels including the group I was in channel 17 every evening. After I was in it for a couple years I decided to get a new radio a galaxy saturn with a linear, all new equipment. Well this upset the masses and it turned a fun hobby into a living nightmare. People playing music all the time when I tried to talk, people throwing carriers and so on. the jealously was pitiful. I went and got my ham ticket and later upgraded through the license and have been there every since. Now that's not to say there isn't hams out there that are the same but in my experience there are way less and I enjoy having actual conversations on there. Maybe its different now on 11 meters because the troublemakers from back in the day are either silent keys or in jail. I have been thinking of tuning the hf radio down to 27 meg to see if there is any activity.
Wow, didn’t realize the 955 had so many Bells & Whistles! I’ve been running the 497 Stryker in my Big Truck for the last 3 years, and this thing has been a Bullet Proof Radio for me. It talks crystal clear, puts out Big Power (swings 175) and the most important thing is the Durability. This Radio has been beat on hard, as in, it has been Installed & De-Installed at least a half dozen times, rode on the Shelf in my Sleeper for probably 6 months while I ran my 300 watt Ranger for a while. It has seen some abuse and has never even hinted at letting me down. I may have to check out the 955 for Home use. Been thinking about setting up a Base Station Radio for years, just have never gotten around to it. Idk why either, because I probably own at 12-15 Radios ranging from 50 watts to 400+ watts. I may pick your Brain about Antennas, setup, etc for Base Station use. Great Video!
Hi Erik, Great presentation! We're in CA we're just getting started with CB radios. We're set-up to overland in our RAM 2500 Diesel but want the most powerful, long range unit possible for cross-country trips, too. We don't understand a lot of the terminology, but that's OK, we'll learn if it gives us an advantage. Can you recommend this unit or something else that would better suit our needs. Thank you for your time.
I have this radio in my truck. At home i have an RCI 2995 with a Maco 5/8 on the roof grounded and tethered. I have yet to make any dx contact. Ill keep tryin though! 417 in the Keystone. 73s
If someone uses a number after their name, it is a way of differentiating between users. There could be 10 johnny but only one johnny707 Hope that helps
@@FarpointFarms Thank you and that makes sense. But I am still puzzled by the 101 Texas and some others in the comments. 166 Missouri and another 698 Louisiana. There are no names attached. Are they highways that they're near by or something? Wondering if you could please tell me anything about that. Again, I apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your response.
Great video. I am thinking about getting back into CB and this looks like a great choice. Ive been out of it for thirty years and not sure what antenna, cable, etc. to get. Do you have any recommendations?
Awesome, sir… you, not the radio-although the radio is indeed impressive. I notice you have read through the comments and specifically responded to many of them. Very considerate, given everything that competes for your time.
Hey, thanks for the kind words. Yes, I do try to keep up with nearly all the comments on all 1000 of my videos as they come in. It's quite a task somedays as I average 50 or so on a slow day and sometimes well over a 100 on the weekends. I made the decision to do it last Christmas and have stuck with it. I like making the connections with my viewers.
Wow, there certainly are a lot of features on there. I probably don't know what over half of them mean. You happen to have any videos on your channel already breaking down what all the different things on a radio base are?
Eric I sold my Long Island home bought a house in the mountains of South Carolina Pickens County South Carolina. It’s right up there by North Carolina and Georgia right in that corner
I bought a ranger RCI 69F. FFC 6. It's been in the shop more than in my truck. I bought it through. Wilcox radio. When I first got it, they didn't even expand it. So I had to send it back. When I got it back, it didn't receive. They told me my swr were high. I kept my Meter right on top of it. I'll never deal with these people again. I pay $900 for a paper weight.
What does the 10 metre use mean bro. I live in a caravan in England. I’m after this radio with an antenna. I live deep in Shropshire countryside in a valley. Can you advise? Phil. England.
I've repaired quite a few of these, they're the usual CB garbage based around what's become a standard design (seriously, grab the schematic if you can read them and then compare it to a few others) but they've got lots of flashy lights, fancy gadgets, chrome and a big LCD display to make them look really impressive to justify the ridiculous price so I guess that's a win...
Oh, It's a win. The other people that I've talked with all say their radios are still working years later. If I had to guess, Some "Golden Screwdriver" got in to the ones you've had to repair.
If they'd been 'screwdrivered' I'd have politely refused to work on them, life is too short to waste repairing the work of idiots who 'tune up', 'peak' and 'optimise fer swing'. For the ridiculous price tag they could have fitted some proper RF MOSFETs which would be far more reliable than the 50c motor control FETs they actually used. Two of the 'HPCs I've repaired this year were still warranty sealed, one was finals (almost always finals), another had a weird audio mute fault caused by U3, the BL1551 audio switch IC. Yet another one that had fried finals, the tech opened it and gave it back to the owner because the SMD components and double sided PCB scared him. Another 'HPC was repaired as a favour for a tech friend who'd done a good job of replacing yet another set of finals but he'd somehow dropped a whisker of solder onto the board which shorted the voltage to the driver and cooked the 2SB1132 SMD switching transistor Q530. They're not the worst CB and at least they're not yet another even cheaper rip off of the ancient MC145106 chassis in the Cobra 148GTL-DX. I actually quite like the new, cheap, processor controlled radios but the Stryker really is just another variant of the same Chinese circuit with lots of chrome and flashy lights to make the buyer think they've bought something special. @@FarpointFarms
No magic screwdriver work to this one. Bone stock with the 11M mod. That mod is literally clipping a single wire from what I understand. Not tuned, not peaked, not ,messed with. I agree The "golden screwdriver" kills more radios than anything else. @@M0UAW_IO83
Awesome video keep up the great work sir. Been looking for a new radio to upgrade mine, is there any mods you have to do to the radio to be able to talk on the CB bands? Thanks.
Another great video, would have liked to know out of the box, what is the dead key and modulation power you are throwing on 11 meter. 10 meter radio wont be surprised if you are at keast 100 w. To much work and too many tea urea for a CB radio!!!
Wow what a nice radio this is.. Ive been contemplating buying one of these for quite a while now but always been put off by the price tag although looking at this radio test you done eric I’m seriously needing one of these now😎👍
@@FarpointFarms i gave my brother my anytone 6666. His first cb. Now I'm looking for a new one for myself. Would hate to buy this Stryker and have to send it in to get modified. May get another anytone 6666. Are you familiar with the 6666?
I have one of these and I have a anytone 6666. I thought the anytone was great until I got to compare it to the 955. Both seem to talk loud and proud. But the noise floor on the anytone is much higher than the 955. It's not that it's a higher sensitivity receiver either. I was on the anytone and the guy could hear me but I was having a hard time hearing him. I switched over to the 955 and he was coming in loud and clear and the noise floor was a 2. On the anytone it was a 5. I think overall the 955 is a much better radio and perfect for a base station and if you have the room it would be a great mobile radio. I am going to play and check around to see if I can get the noise floor better on the anytone. But I think the 955 is set up bettery overall and is a better performing radio.

We have a remote off-road cabin and we still use CB radio with our other remote neighbors in the area. We usually have it on when we are there. Many of us are seniors so it’s a good way to call for assistance.
Amen, love CB radio.
There is a warm feeling that comes with knowing one can still communicate even if Al Gore shuts off his internet.
I have two of these radios and run an amp with both, 5/8 base antenna and lmr400 coax. They need plenty of power to use their full potential. Separate power for radio and amp is ideal and is what I use. Good luck with the Stryker, you will enjoy it.
I agree that this radio could use the extra power.
ENJOY !!!
Great to hear it!
I know relatively nothing about these radios, but in my limited knowledge this is EXTREMELY impressive.
I can tell you that based on looks alone, I wanted one!
Illegal
who care if it's illegal. I'm sure u have done worse
I have had my 955 Stryker for almost three years now love it for sure talks great
I hope to have mine for 20 years!!

Right on, good long range contact
Cool vid! ive had a 955 for a few years now in my personal and it amazes how good it works. i run a vhp 98 in my big truck too. both get the job done. thanks Eric
You're welcome
I bought a 655hpc last year for my truck I love it!! Now that I'm getting really into it wish I had bought the 955 for the upper and lower side band. Anyhoo great 👍 video!!
I looked at that one too, but opted for the SSB operation as this is a base setup.
Welcome to the club. I’ve been talking across the US (AZ to east coast), into the UK and even Australia a few times for several years. I had it tuned up a bit and puts out 110w. Always getting great audio reports.
It's a great radio for sure. I made contacts all over the west coast this past Monday. Conditions were good and I had a blast.
Thanks for sharing- I am glad to hear that you are very happy with it
I got an RCI 2950, in my car a number of years ago.
All these new radios are surface mount. The days of messing with the insides are all but over.
I recently purchased this radio and love it. I made my first contact to a station in upper NY and Ottawa Canada all the way from North Central Alabama. Enjoy your new toy, Eric. 73 from TinMan143
Just made a west coast contact here in NC. Love it!
I order it for $459 in the USA and the device costs almost €700 to Germany. Do you have to understand that? I got the CRT 7900 for €250 and yes, the inside is the same as Stryker 😉
Thanks for sharing that,
Excellent radios! Had one in the big truck and loved it now I’ve got the Stryker 447 about to go to the shop for a little tune up and then it will be going in. Great video, keep it up!
I got a 490 with a 2290 Toshiba
Also a great radio for sure!
Cool! This one was on my bucket list for many years. Glad to finally own one.
I’m looking for a galaxy 99v2

I was on the radio last week and did make connection with Ireland and the UK. The skip gods were good to me that day. The mountains are still beautiful here
What is the 707 you say when keying up? Is that for HAM operation or a different code?
The number at the end of a call sign is to help differentiate you from another person. There might be 10 johnny but only one johnny707
@@FarpointFarms ok. I thought it was code for something. Gotcha. So that’s your “handle” 😉Might as well get a HAM license and get an actual assigned call sign for yourself. That way it will be unique and you won’t be limited to 11 meters?? 👍
I have two SR-955HPC v2 and love the radio. I was curious what the difference v3 brings?
It's a smaller board, and some other small improvements, but for the user, it's nearly the same.
Just ordered me one . I hope it fits where the President Richard is in my 2023 Tacoma. Needs to mount on passenger side of center console.
You will love it!
Hmm.. No issues with this one so far. Loving it!
@@FarpointFarms yeah the v2 doesn’t have the voltage drop issue
I'm sitting at 20 Watt's max, although I dialed it back as well.
For anyone new to radio, you need to let them know this is not an average 11 meter
CB radio but rather a 10 meter radio which is in the classification of "HAM" radio and requires at least a Tech Class FCC Amateur license to transmit
This isn't a beginner radio. That's why It says "Big Boy" in the title.

Use that rig on 11 meter SSB, get the clarifier unlocked and you will be amazed at the contacts you will make. 73s W5DPV.
Good to know, thanks for sharing
That looks like a lot of fun.
Not sure where I'd start but something to consider.
That is a great part about CB, you just hop in and try it out.
I had one. Sadly it stopped working. Something about the cpu got to hot and melted the cpu board the striker tech said it was still under warranty so i got a President Lincoln 2 plus. Much more stable radio in my opinion. Anyway nice video.

Yeah. The horizontal antenna lines up with the other stations as Far Point said. Look into Wave Propagation topic and it will make more sense.
You'll have 2 nice radios. I have the McKinley with a Lil Wilson for the car and the Stryker 955hc with a Wilson 5,000 on the truck.
@@FarpointFarms Been out of the CB circles since 1979. These radios rock! lots of power inside when turned up. modulation gets as loud as any. I'm looking for a 2k or larger tube amp. Any ideas? new preferably.
That's a lot of power! Sorry I don't know where you would go to find that kind of juice.
Go wizard. Or ghost. I've seen sb220's do it but that's hard on the 3-500's. Better to stick with what cber's refer to as steel tubes.
Hey from Texas. That 955 is something to be proud of. With all the rumors about terrorist coming over the border, I am preparing as much as i can.I do have both mobile and home cb's but i am trying to get good ham radios. I am learning as much as i can.I figure it might help if something happens.
It is better to have it and not need it than the other way around
Will this unit service an EMP BURST?🤠
If a true EMP burst- not much will survive, unless in a Faraday cage.
I bought one of these brand new 6 months ago. Has been a great radio except that now 6 months later the channel selector knob is failing in a huge way.
Hmm. What happened?
I think the secret here is to avoid the "Golden Screwdriver" These are great radios when stock. Any power mods kill them quick.

While I definitely have a preference for vintage radios, I would love to have one of these. Problem is, they are all digital, and I don't want to work on one. It seems to be impossible to find a new one that has been converted for use on 11 meters.

Love to catch all my fans on the air!
I'm quite new at this so I have a question. Must you have a Ham license to use the SR-955HPC on the CB channels.
It is an export radio, so it is not legal to transmit on the CB band, however- if using a CB radio. you will not need a license to transmit on CB
Those are great radios! A couple of our locals have the version 1 & 2. If they can’t hear ya that, they’re not gonna hear ya at all!! Good video!! Have you ever considered putting up a set of beams?
I'd love to, but it would require a real tower, and the money just isn't there to get one.
I forgot about needing a tower to use em.
I just unwrapped my brand new one, and popped the lid off to unlock 11 meters. Amazing how they have an arrow pointing to the suspect resistor.. 😂
Ha! Well, I guess I should have done this myself.

What you'll find is Ham, without the stuffy Elmers.
So did you purchase the radio with the 11 meter conversion, or did you convert it your self?
I bought it that way.

Great Video! Thank you. If it's not too much trouble could you please explain what the 707 and 101 Texas calls mean?

The V3 just came out 3 months ago here in the states. Just minor board improvements.
Are you sure mate as the UK importer says different
V3 is cut down in power by about 30 watts. Folks weren't hooking V1s to the battery . Don't have to direct connect with V3.

I have a V2 and love it....I still cant stop staring at those old Cobra Dynascans though...i still have the one that belonged to my dad...❤
That is cool that you still have one from your dads.
I know nothing about ssb. I’m am only with my 497. Were those contacts still on 11 meter? Great video.
Yes, that was all on 11 meter.
Eric I sold my Long Island home bought a house in the mountains of South Carolina Pickens County South Carolina. It’s right up there by North Carolina and Georgia right in that corner
I think you will love it in the mountains. Life is a bit slower and the people are a lot nicer.
Im so far out of the loop. I have a Cobra 19XS from the 90s... Is it 11 meter? This is a 10 meter with a ton more wattage but still a "CB"?
Yes, your Cobra is a 11 meter (CB Band). This radio is 10 meter from the factory but can be modified to work well on 11 meters.
I have been made aware that "Tuning" radios is a bad idea. It always kills more radios than it makes better.
What does the 10 metre use mean bro. I live in a caravan in England. I’m after this radio with an antenna. I live deep in Shropshire countryside in a valley. Can you advise? Phil. England.
10meter are ham radios. This radio can be modified to 11meter- which is CB band. Hope that helps

No magic screwdriver work to this one. Bone stock with the 11M mod. That mod is literally clipping a single wire from what I understand. Not tuned, not peaked, not ,messed with. I agree The "golden screwdriver" kills more radios than anything else. @@M0UAW_IO83
Recently got the radio myself. Awesome radio.
I am Loving it!
I'm a former truck and I've always had a Cobra 29 what is your take on the Cobra 29 radio
It is a good radio- I had one years ago
Awesome video keep up the great work sir. Been looking for a new radio to upgrade mine, is there any mods you have to do to the radio to be able to talk on the CB bands? Thanks.
I bought this one already converted to 11M. Other than that, I didn't do anything to it.
Wow, I have seen this advertised and now, I want it! Great video and I love your new stufio. 73'
Thank you- it is a radio worth getting
Another great video, would have liked to know out of the box, what is the dead key and modulation power you are throwing on 11 meter. 10 meter radio wont be surprised if you are at keast 100 w.
To much work and too many tea urea for a CB radio!!!
I have mine turned all the way down to try and stay legal, but I hear they do around 60 watts.
What's the difference between the SR-955HP and the SR-955HPC? Seeing two different price points but they appear to be the same radio.
Hm.. I don't know. I thought they were just newer versions.
Erik your going to like it I have the same one it is a good talker
Thanks= I am sure I will enjoy it
When converting to 11 meter how do you choose witch band you want your 11 meter on ir does it just use band 6
It's band 6 from the factory. I don't know if that can be changed.
Excellent radio! 188 in the palm beaches.
Indeed it is a great radio
Wow what a nice radio this is..
Ive been contemplating buying one of these for quite a while now but always been put off by the price tag although looking at this radio test you done eric I’m seriously needing one of these now😎👍
It certainly isn't cheap, but man, it's a good one!
Finally bought one and its not dissapointed me at all its a fabulous radio with so many features and just looks cool as fcuk😎👍
Do you have to get it modified to get the cb band or is it set-up just like in the video and i can go right to it out of the box?
I bought this one like this.
@@FarpointFarms i gave my brother my anytone 6666. His first cb. Now I'm looking for a new one for myself. Would hate to buy this Stryker and have to send it in to get modified. May get another anytone 6666. Are you familiar with the 6666?
Nice radio Eric. Great skip this morning. I like all the feature's it has.
I was able to make some contacts as well!

Dzien Dobry from New Mexico!
I've been VERY pleased so the overall quality of this radio. Sensitive receive and clear transmit.
Sweet radio. I haven't been able to find a v3 on the internet, all I can find is v2. Do you have any links?
I'd check directly with Stryker. This is a pretty new radio! Tell them I sent you!
I still have & use my original version 955 & love it! 73 🇺🇸😃
Glad to hear that they are reliable.
