I'm an old CB'er that got out of it back in the 70's my last radio was a black face Johnson, I'm back now with a The Stryker SR-955HP and lovin it. I put mine on blue because it drives my wife nuts. 73's
I ran across a BF Johnson on eBay the other day, just one. Seems like everybody had that or a white face, 45 years ago. I have an old Regency Romper 6 channel I bought in 1975. It hasn't been powered up in 40 years. I'd be afraid to at this point. There's a crystal socket on the face and I had a bag of transmit crystals that are long gone. It was vfo receive / crystal transmit. Ive been thinking about having it restored. Right now it's just a display boat anchor.
I just made the jump and purchased a peak and tuned Stryker 955HP finally. I'm coming from a Bearcat 880, which was good for a place holder and entry level radio. I only got my Stryker yesterday but it's a million times better night and day difference. First time I ever got a "loud and clear" on a radio check.
I love your advice on power... I have a Galaxy 88 hl with an Astatic 575m6... I let it swing at 25 watts... I've had it since 2001, absolutely no effort on the radio... if I need power, I run it at 3 watts into a 4 pill... common sense! Not working it hard, I'll have this 80's designed radio for the rest of my life and always sound big!
Glad you spilled the beans on the regulator. If you are going to run an external low drive amplifier, the radio is not going to be pushed hard anyhow. Thanks for being honest Rooster and Gump.

Thanks for making the video. Just one beef. I wish people doing over the air checks would realize that including camera audio along with receiver audio makes the test waaayyy less useful.
I get confused with this stuff. I’ve always played with cb’s and currently have a cobra 29 with a large final upgrade. Works nice but this radio has all the bells and whistles and I’m thinking of getting one. Everyone always says 4 watts is the legal limit but you can buy these radios with much more. How is that? Am I a dumb ass for asking 😂?
I think a lot of people don't care what is legal, just because you can buy something doesn't mean you are legally allowed to. Whether you Peak and tune a cobra 29 or buy an export radio that does 50+ it isn't legal. If you're unfamiliar with the export radios, they are 10 meter radios modified to work on 11 meters aka citizens band. These are not technically cb radios, it literally says on the box 10 meter. In order to operate a 10 meter radio legally you need a ham license and even with that you still can't legally modify them to work on citizens band. It states in the FCC rules that CB radios are not to be modified to produce more power than how they came from the manufacturer. Most cb radios stock will only produce 5-7 watts pep which is only a little over. The legal power of 4 hasn't changed but most cbers dont operate on just the legal power, if you are caught doing more than it's a hefty fine plus they confiscate your equipment. Luckily though the FCC doesn't pay that close attention to the little guys who just peak and tune their radios or buy these export radios pushing 100 or so. They mostly go after the big dogs pushing thousands of watts. Unless you are operating one of these export radios on 10 meter ham band and you anger the other ham operators and they report you. I personally would not advise talking on anything other than the citizens band with these radios. It's just like a driver license if a cop pulls someone over without a license and doesn't do anything about it we would be pissed. Because we took the test road with an instructor to be able to drive and yet people that haven't are free to drive as well. That's the way I think a number of ham guys feel. Depending on the guys in your area, they may not care but some do.
@@countryfriedgamer15o yea, thanks for the info. I know what you mean about big dogs. I’m in PA and there is a guy there I can still hear in Delaware. Then lately there has been a guy coming over in PA that claims Arizona. I’ve personally heard him in PA, Delaware, NJ, and NY.
