Back in the '70s, we had a neighbor about a half mile from us running an illegal amp on her CB Base station and that was always blasting through our TV completely jamming it. No matter how many times we complained, she just didn't give a damn. It was especially annoying since back then there was no cable and we only got two stations via the antenna. Seemed like the only entertainment we got from the TV was listening to her talk.
Interesting! How did those amplifiers work (called linear's?)? To hear a reply, the person you intended to speak to needed a similar power amp, correct?
@@FarpointFarms I knew the lady so I recognized her voice, plus with all the antennas in her yard, it looked like a NASA tracking station, so we know who it was--she just didn't care.
Too bad. You could have upgraded your TV antenna and added a high-pass filter and better ground. You are partially guilty of some of the interference as your TV set-up was probably not ideal or as well though out and set-up correctly.
@@Hubjeepno, the linear just made the broadcaster using it put out more power. To talk to them, depending how far away from them you were they could still hear you if you just had a good radio & antenna, no external amp. I knew someone with just a 100 watt in his car, finely tuned radio and antenna, it was nice. But these people with 1000 watts + on a home cb, are in my opinion, ridiculous. Back in the day, even a radio peaked to 12 watts would bleed over onto nearby tv, telephone etc. you’d have to add major filters, and if you didn’t, you were the obnoxious one that the neighbors hated.
I recommend Scott's radios llc he carries these radios I recommend to pay for the alignment he has all the equipment to setup a radio the way it should be.
Totally untrue, but you go right on thinking that. These radios are sent out to people like Mower Junkie and myself to test out. If we like them, all they ask in return is a video on them. If a product is sent to me (or Mower Junkie I'm sure) That sucks, you never hear about it as they go in the trash without ever making a video. This Radio is really great and is a really great price. Truth be told, they certainly didn't need any help selling this one!@@RabbiJesus
They literally emailed me and said "Would you like to review our new QT60 radio?" I said yes. They replied "Great, here is the tracking. let us know what you think" . Apparently you don't do reviews? Funny that you think you know how these things work then isn't it?@@RabbiJesus
Both same radio but radioddity offers a warranty and anytone does not. I just bought a qt60 from Scott's radios llc I highly recommend to buy a radio from him and pay the extra for alignment.
Your wrong about no antenna being tunable for all those bands. My Imax 2000 is resonant from 10m through 17m. The SWR does vary but goes from a flat 1:1 up to 2:1 and back down several times. Works great and I talk all over the world.
Is there a separate certificate that allows for legal operation under CB or Ham license only to operate legally? I looked at one similar radio on a popular online CB/HAM radio store and a tab popped up that said- Add $50.00 “Push your radio to its maximum potential! This modification will expand and modify this radio for all it can do” SSB alignment is not included.
It would be nice, if in the software upgrade that Radioddity would be able to change the frequencies of the weather channels to the 2 meter band or the public safety band.
I have the Anytone AT-5555n and it was $250. US from an outfit in England. UK. I want the AT-5555n II that's now available and they are still running below $300. US so get yours today. I really love mine. Great receive and transmit audio. Frequency or VFO mode. Most of 12, all of11, and up to 30.010 on 10 meters. I'm saying as "My opinion" this is a powerhouse radio. Mine is 60 watts out of the box barefoot. I'm sure i could have it turned up; but why?
Problem - The manual says to push menu+mode together in order to access the weather channels, however I can't get it to work. I've tried it on all bands as well as all modes and nothing works. If you (or anyone) cab get it to work, I'd appreciate any advise on how you got it to work, I did do the mod, so maybe you lose that feature by doing so...tnx
@FarpointFarms that's awesome! I have the QT40, but it limits cb frequency to 12-13 watts so I've been thinking of upgrading to the 60. I just don't like how it comes straight from Hong Kong. Maybe I can find a U.S supplier.
This is the Anytone AT-5555N!!. I am loving it more and more. I can buy it here in my country as "export" or I can purchase it €80 cheaper direct from China. But...I have to cut a wire and move over the jumper ? Or whatever its called. Now I am technical. But I never have done that. But there are video's on UA-cam. So , what to do, what to choose. Warranty will be the same in both cases.
Well I'm wondering I want to put a desk mic on this radio is there a wiring diagram so I can splice a Ethernet cable then solder to 4 pin barrel mald and plug a real mic into it? Tgaf QT 40 radio a bad idea how it has to tune nog a superstar or galaxy multi band radio .. QT 60/ anytime 5555 seems be better idea !
The RB button does not function as per the instructions. You can turn the RB-ON, by pressing and holding. But push again does not change the frequency. Turn on channel switch direction simply does not work. If you get to RB-ON, keying mike turns it back OFF. Instruction RB function 2. simply does not work.
I solved the problem. The instructions sequence is incorrect. Here is the correct sequence: Long press RB for 2 seconds. should display RB - ON Short press RB to turn RB function. should see RB at top right of display Short press channel selector. Should see OFF - 5. Turn channel selector dial to the right to cycle through 5 selections 1-5. Select a number. Press channel selector again to get out of select mode. You are ready. Press PTT to test. Do NOT press RB again or it will cancel your selection and turn RB OFF To change your selection, press channel selector again.

I know this isn't part of the video but I have a question I couldn't get answered on another video. A buddy of mine said I needed to buy cable lengths in multiples of 3. Something to do with wave lengths or something. Anyway beyond my understanding. Is this true or even necessary?
Yes Sir I’m wanting to move up to SSB, I’m looking at the uniden 980 or president McKinley. I’ve seen your videos but do you have a personal preference?
This is the Almond Joy / Mounds, of radio. This is because, "Sometimes you feel like a nut (CB), sometimes you don't(amateur radio). As for the legality of the radio, only those that have never sped on their automobile should say, anything. Speeding has been proven to kill. A radio that transmits on both CB and ham bands has never killed anybody. Thus if you want the radio for both, get it. It will hurt nobody. But, maybe cut down on your automobile speeding.
@@FarpointFarms Truthfully, even in the nations where it is illegal, it is a victimless crime with no adverse effects on anybody except the sales of individual CB radios and amateur radios. Nobody really cares except politicians. They want everyone to have an individual CB and amateur radio. It is like many new vehicles have no spare tyre but still charge outrageous amounts for a very ugly vehicle and claim the smaller size does not allow for a spare, yet the well for the spare is still there.
I don’t understand how you get these modifications made , does the manufacturer or do you have to take it to a shop or do it yourself. Where’s the info on how you do it ?
I've seen another vid where the ham clips one wire AND moves a jumper over ... that's what you have to do .that gives you both 12 and 11 m. It may be that the jumper alone does that 11m change. The jumper is one of those tiny black rect type ones that sits on gold pins - just like a computer motherboard jumper. cheers TEF It will NOT do GMRS frequencies.
From what I understand, they are both made by the same parent company. I personally like the looks of the Stryker better, but this one has nearly all the same bells and whistles for half the price.
Like it or not these export radios are the thing of the future and almost everyone I know has one where they use their ham radio to operate on 11 mm and I'm not sure that's even legal
I have to agree with you on this. The FCC moved too slow, and the users of the band moved on without them. It's not unlike the early 70's when people just said "NO" to getting a license. Eventually the FCC came around and admitted defeat. On a side note, many Ham operators are now skipping the license as well.

I remember those days well. We had the same problem but never figured out who it was that was doing it.
Thanks for the tip! I love to support the little guys!
You and Mower Junkie uploaded videos on the same radio today.
Great minds think alike!
They send them out with scripts.
@@FarpointFarms so, you’re saying they didn’t provide ANY talking points at all? That would literally be a first ever.
They literally emailed me and said "Would you like to review our new QT60 radio?" I said yes. They replied "Great, here is the tracking. let us know what you think" . Apparently you don't do reviews? Funny that you think you know how these things work then isn't it?@@RabbiJesus
When using this radio on CB channels in SSB does the clarifier change the TX and RX or just the RX?
RX only.
If you were ready to buy one now, would you buy this Radioddity or anytone 5555NII ?
Both same radio but radioddity offers a warranty and anytone does not. I just bought a qt60 from Scott's radios llc I highly recommend to buy a radio from him and pay the extra for alignment.
@chevyguy1128- good point on the warranty-
Your wrong about no antenna being tunable for all those bands. My Imax 2000 is resonant from 10m through 17m. The SWR does vary but goes from a flat 1:1 up to 2:1 and back down several times. Works great and I talk all over the world.
I actually have a MAC2000 down in the garage. I'll check it out.
Thanks for the video. I want to buy one for myself for Christmas.
You will be VERY pleased.
Is there a separate certificate that allows for legal operation under CB or Ham license only to operate legally? I looked at one similar radio on a popular online CB/HAM radio store and a tab popped up that said-
Add $50.00
“Push your radio to its maximum potential! This modification will expand and modify this radio for all it can do”
SSB alignment is not included.
I am not sure about that one- I would just encourage people to be legal about what they do
@@FarpointFarms Thank you for your reply.
I just bought a President McKinley and now they have the II and this with way more versatility.
Don't be disapointed. The McKinley is a GREAT radio!
How close is this to the Stryker 955? Wanting to setup a base station in my garage.
Inside it literally is a 955 revision 1. Outside the Stryker has a different look to it.
@@FarpointFarms thanks. Made my choice rather easy for a first timer at a base.
It would be nice, if in the software upgrade that Radioddity would be able to change the frequencies of the weather channels to the 2 meter band or the public safety band.
That would be cool!
Agreed. 60 watts is plenty!
That is everywhere. Visit a parts store or a walmart and you get to see it live. People seem to be a little less bright these days.
Does the QT60 really put out more wattage than the Anytone 5555? I was thinking of getting the quad 5 simply because there are U.S based suppliers.
This newer version does. It's 80 watts vs. 60 watts from the 5555.
All I can tell you for sure is that it's a great radio!
My QT60 came already pre-programmed only in the HF band. The channels are all in HF (28MHz - 29MHz). How can I get it transceive in CB?
Mine was modded by the shop I bought it from. You'd have to see if someone in your area can do that kind of work.
@@FarpointFarms Got it. Thx.
Nice radio and great review. That loud beep is hideous though. Thanks for the video!
Man it was ear splitting in person. Couldn't wait to turn it off.
@@FarpointFarms I bet. I had earbuds in and they were cranked a little haha! I bet it’s glorious in person.
QT 60/ anytime 5555 seems
be better idea !
They sell converters on eBay to make these go from the ethernet to a 4 pin mic plug.
The RB button does not function as per the instructions. You can turn the RB-ON, by pressing and holding. But push again does not change the frequency. Turn on channel switch direction simply does not work. If you get to RB-ON, keying mike turns it back OFF. Instruction RB function 2. simply does not work.
I am sorry to hear that- have you reached out to Raddioddity to see what they have to say?
I solved the problem. The instructions sequence is incorrect. Here is the correct sequence:
Long press RB for 2 seconds. should display RB - ON
Short press RB to turn RB function. should see RB at top right of display
Short press channel selector. Should see OFF - 5. Turn channel selector dial to the right to cycle through 5 selections 1-5. Select a number.
Press channel selector again to get out of select mode.
You are ready. Press PTT to test. Do NOT press RB again or it will cancel your selection and turn RB OFF
To change your selection, press channel selector again.
Is that a Timex Sinclair on the back shelf?
Yes it is
Are cb raido are only for trucks. I have a phone now
No, I have one in my Volvo wagon and my Mitsubishi mirage as well.
How do these compare to the n11
I haven't owned that one.
Farpoint, where did you order your from and how long did it take to get it. Mine has been on order for 8 days now, website says, “in transit”.
How long did it take to get yours?
Right from Radiooddity.
@@FarpointFarms okay, thanks. I was just wondering as they said 5-7 days. I need to get a programming cable so I might just get the one from Anytone since they are the same rig, essentially.
I keep hoping for a digital scanner from one of these companies
I bought the DMR all band radio and I paid 70 dollars for it
And I was amazed that it worked.
But I have not seen a scanner yet.
A nice phase 2 digital would be nice
I am sure they have one in the works-
They could make big money with a scanner
does this come with 11m or do you have to mod it? Most 10m radios I've seen need modding to access the CB 11m band. 73 de W8MJL
These have to be changed over to 11M. The one I bought was already modded when I got it.
The FIRST thing you change when switching on for the first time is disable the annoying beep....done quite easily.
Agreed. That is the most painful beep I've ever come across!
What antenna are you using during this demo? How do you like the QT60? What ground plane do you like? Yep, lots of question huh.. Thanks. Sub'd long ago and always checking you out. 73's
This is hooked to an Antron A99. LOVE THIS RADIO!! No ground plane on my antenna setup.
Do thay sell a power Mike for it
I am not sure, I think there are adapters you can get to use other brands.
Dress this radio have GMRS frequencies?
No.
Man I hope there is something to do about the button beeps and power on tones. I'm sure you can at least turn them off.
Definitely makes me miss the HR2510 with is soft button beeps.
There is usually a setting where you can make the buttons silent
Sold out on the website.
Is the Anytone 5555 N II the exact same radio?
It is a very similar radio
Yes, identical.
Looks like a nice rig. I see that you checked it out on 11 meters, are you doing a video on how it is on 12 and 10 meters>
Made one good contact on 10. Solar storm had all but wiped out the band shortly after I started filming. Today? Lot's of 11M contacts!
Is this the digital version of the QT40?
Sort of. It's an upgrade as well. More Watts.
@@FarpointFarms thank you sir. Enjoy your posts. Definitely rekindling my interest in radio
Does the unit limit power to CB levels when transmitting on CB channels?
It can be turned down manually to do that.
how do you make the Qt60 work on 11 meters
I am not sure- I don't modify radios but this one came this way
What's with the fm and what's it for?
It's just another mode to transmit on. AM, SSB, and now FM modes.
Need to hear you on 26.805 FM, " The Original FM calling channel "
I'll listen in!
Also called the Anytone AT5555II. :-)
And the Stryker 955 V2.
Thay need to do a ranger base like the qt 60 with all that
That would be so great!
Can you change the steps on the main dial to 5kHz
Yes.
re-badged Anytone 5555 ?
I think, or the 6666? Not sure, but I do know it's sold under many brands at this point.
What’s a decent SUV antenna you recommend
I like the Tram 3500.
I'll look this radio up. I do not like the mic plug, that sucks.
I'm not seeing it has split frequency, that would've been nice. I had that on my AR-3300.
The unlocked clarifier is nice.
Thanks for sharing
I know this isn't part of the video but I have a question I couldn't get answered on another video. A buddy of mine said I needed to buy cable lengths in multiples of 3. Something to do with wave lengths or something. Anyway beyond my understanding. Is this true or even necessary?
Not needed, but somewhat true. It can fake out the SWR meter if the length of the wire is off.
SO IS THE 102" WHIP ANTENNA THE BEST ALL ROUND FOR 10 , 11 AND 12 METER BANDS OR IS THERE SOMETHING BETTER FOR THE MOBILE ?
You can't go wrong with a 102!! There is a reason they are still sold.
Can I use my Antron 99 antenna to monitor both CB and Ham ?
Yes!
@@FarpointFarms ♥️
When did channel 19 become a trucker only channel? It used to be open to everyone.
Anyone can use it. It's just that truckers monitor that channel for road info.
Thanks
What is the mode of the anytone that is similar
No idea. Sorry!
@FarpointFarms sorry I meant the model of the anytone to the radioddity qt60

I love how you compared the two- People also need to realize that in other countries this is perfectly legal.
Wow great,
Hw can i buy that

What kind of antenna are you using
Antron A99.
On my QT 60 Looks like a plastic screen protectors on it ?
It might! Mine didn't have one, or at least I don't think it does.
i check and it does have one i got it off .display look better...
Awesome radio but they kinda missed the boat not having CW mode. Anyone remember CW?
thankfully I have forgotten most of the Morris code
I don’t understand how you get these modifications made , does the manufacturer or do you have to take it to a shop or do it yourself. Where’s the info on how you do it ?
I take it to a shop, but there are a lot of videos that cover these mods if you are inclined to try it yourself.
A simple solder link btwn 2 jumper pins
You can find info on UA-cam or internet it's easy if you can solder any at all

You can order it from the company like that
Not according to the company@@FarpointFarms
Oh, I didn't mean radioddity, I meant the place I got it from. Walcott radio. Sorry!
Is this literally the same radio just a different badge as the
Anytone-5555 ?
Yep. Badge engineering of the AT 5555, CRT 7900.
Yes, and it's also internally a Stryker 955 V2. I can confirm the board is the same. Heck of a deal for this level of radio.
@@FarpointFarms
Yeah it seems that way for sure !!
Great looking radio and lots of features
Does it do gmrs frequencies? Is it easy to move the jumper? Does it just pull out? 😊
I've seen another vid where the ham clips one wire AND moves a jumper over ... that's what you have to do .that gives you both 12 and 11 m. It may be that the jumper alone does that 11m change. The jumper is one of those tiny black rect type ones that sits on gold pins - just like a computer motherboard jumper. cheers TEF
It will NOT do GMRS frequencies.
This unit does not cover GMRS. Sorry.

Who dose the modication
I have a guy. Most truck stops do this kind of work though.
At one point you kinda compared the meters to the Stryker 955. How do you think the rest of it compares?
From what I understand, they are both made by the same parent company. I personally like the looks of the Stryker better, but this one has nearly all the same bells and whistles for half the price.
yes i was thinking that other than looks and glow lighting, they seem the same@@FarpointFarms
Just a THEORY question, would this radio work a Texas Star 500?
It's what I run
Yes.
CRT 7900V the same radio... Born for HAM but easly modified for CB and DX use...
I understand these are sold under a lot of names. No matter what, it's a good one!
My first ever cb was a binatone
I hadn't heard of that one. I'll look it up.
01:45 "Earthnet"? lol
Ok.
Not legal on 11M above 4 watts, requires Ham license on 10 and 12M. FCC sticker?
No idea.
