When we needed CB radios for our trucks we got great service from Right Channel Radios! We will be getting more radios soon. Let them help you puck out the radios and Antennas and you will not go wrong. Our radios are still going strong and always worked well.
@@josephatnip2398 Yeah, its long. From my experience though it outperforms every other antenna I have tried. Also, I have never had to worry about SWRs as every 102 I have ran had low SWRs on the first try. The only downside I have found is that it is 8 1/2 feet long. Mine is mounted on the top of my headache rack and is right around 13 1/2 feet at the tip so it does tag a lot of tree branches and so on but the great thing is that it flexes great and with a spring I don't have to worry about it snapping off even on low hanging branches.
CB continue to be a worthwhile second line of emergency communications If you've ever come upon a wreck or had an accident and your cell is in a no or poor signal area, a CB or a better, a CB with "other bands" or a compact ham rig "modified" to have CB frequencies can really save lives.
One thing that was not mentioned, is that there are vehicles made, where the body is an alloy and a magnet will not stick to it. I found this out about a yr ago. Rented a SUV and got s surprise when I tried to put my 10 meter antenna with a mag mount on the roof. I wound up finding a small space on the hood where the magnet would stick.
I ran into that as well; I usually travel with a Cobra 75 and a President Virginia antenna in my checked luggage. I had a Ford F-150 once as a rental and the aluminum body wasn't conducive to a mag mount. I stuck the antenna by the rear window (inside) and didn't transmit.
Great info Pat.I have a President Andy that came from Right Channel and a Lil Will mag mount. I travel from Ohio to south Florida and back twice a year. I am surprised how little chatter there is on channel 19 these days. I have used CB occasionally for 50 years and remember the 1970's and 1980's. The chatter was non-stop back then. Bear reports and road hazards are rarely reported on the radio. Even in the big metro areas the chatter is lacking. Maybe I'm missing something.
We don't really use them as much any more, a lot of that stuff has migrated to things like Waze or TruckerPath. In winter conditions though, everyone (who has one) has their radios on. Has saved me personally at least a few times.
I plan on adding a CB radio as well as a 2m/70cm radio, scanner and potentially a HF mobile Transceiver i dont mind having multiple antennas or mobile transceivers on my ram 1500
I like your video ! I have a 5ft k40 on my tundra But I also have a new Santa Cruz and I want a smaller antenna do you have any information on the President new Virginia I think it’s already calibrated Your view
I just want to be able to listen to the Trucker chatter around me 😅 I am always blocking traffic when they want to change lanes and providing plenty of room etc. Would have been nice to be able to communicate with the truckers in LOS of me, but about a mile behind, with more than my hazards and highbeams about the huge traffic jam the other day when the roads were icy AF. The flicking on their headlights on and off let me know they heard and they took the detour I made to rout around though. Looks like I am going with the magnetic one for the metal roof of my little Carolla. Thank you for the info. How short of a whip can I get away with for like just a 1 to 2 mile LOS radius?
I have CB myself, but I'm starting to convert to GMRS just to have another option. I'm getting very little traffic in the Bay Area / Santa Clara County in regards to feed on my CB transmissions. It's sort of sad, because of course BEFORE the birth of Cell's, we had lots of traffic because not everyone had the money to buy a cellphone that was portable back in the 90s, and not everyone wanted to stop at a payphone (pacbell).
102 Copper was the best antenna I've ever used. Next as predator 10K Next was the k40 Antennas that performed the worst was 102 Stainless steel Wilson firestick and Francis. Nothing beats the copper 102 The SS 102 was the worst
What additional hardware and software is suggested to transform a smartphone into a CB radio nowadays (just civil broadcasting for bi-directional communication)?
Some fiberglass sticks are very noisy above a certain speed, had a Twin-Log 5 fiberglass antenna, had to replace it with a thin steel whip, well i gonna try a center loaded one.
Up here in Canada, CB radios are pretty much obsolete as far as mobile use is concerned. Most commercial truckers are using VHF now and I don't know anyone who has a CB radio installed in their vehicle. I guess things are different in the U.S.
I’m interested to know what VHF frequencies truckers would use? The only VHF frequencies for public use in Canada I know are in the amateur radio band. There is the FRS (family radio service) low power frequencies in the UHF band but only hand held radios are sold. If Canadian truckers want to go against Industry Canada radio laws they can purchase GMRS (general mobile radio service) mobile radios in the US and use them. Many truckers in the US are now going to that service.
What would one recommend from an older Kia Sorento as an antenna mount? And antenna package to connect to my even older RCA Co-pilot or Uniden Pro 510xl. I think for space the Uniden would be better for my purposes. Do the door-frame mount fro antennas still exist?
you lost me at 4 watts. all cb,s i ever seen have been 5 watts and 12w pep for side band, some of the import radios out there will do 40 watts out of the box. also, the stainless 102inch whip is hard to beat in performance providing you can mount it on your vehicle and the most important thing is the S W R keep it as low as possible.
5 Watts input to the finals; 4 Watts Output to the antenna. That is the FCC "spec" for a "legal" radio. (12W SSB). I have a modified Galaxy that does 100W (94HP) but that isn't legal and Pat keeps his stuff legal. (Note - I use that radio on 10M primarily where that output is legal with my Extra class license but driving between NC & ME often I might be on CB with it.) Co-phased 4' Firestiks and I've DXed as far as Italy from NC so I'm happy with my rig.
That is where I put my mag mount. On top of the cab, as long as there are no obstructions around it like the body of the box. Sometimes the box is higher than the top of the cab. Then you will probably want to go with mirror mounts.
You left out NMO mounts for maximum ground plane performance and and ability to change radio types. No flopping coax thumpin your roof like a magnetic mount. When it's time to to sell the vehicle, pop on a plastic cap and the buyer will not care.
Any antenna you use you need to properly tune it or match it to the coax. The best radio in the wprld will still work like $#!t if your antenna is poor. Most factory antennas are tuned close but not perfectly. While you can use an swr meter to tune the antenna its better to use an analyzer or nanovna Its more accurate ( you dont need the radio hooked up to the antenna to tune it)

So we are just ganna act like the 102" whip doesnt exist? lol
The problem with the 102 is it's 102 in Long

I run a president mckinley ssb with a 48 inch fire stick. Works great.
Clear and concise information, much appreciated. I'll give you a call to help me with my setup.
please do a video on Sirio car antennas and mounts. I like the 3/4th options . Wilson I dont think offers this.

Always appreciate these videos. I’m learning how to install and tune correctly. 👍
Setting what, the swr?
That's a easy one.

I like the 102inch whip antenna with a spring. You can tie a donut on it and go fishing for cops, andcthey work great for talking too.
Never forget f cops and fjb✌️
What’s the best antenna for the president Randy 2 and would you have to check swrl
Looking gotta b radio for a 2019 dodge ram. Which Cb radio would be best??

SO THE FRANCIS ANTENNA...
WHAT WOULD THAT BE UNDER.
BOTTOM.. MED. OR. TOP. COIL ANTENNA .
Thank you for being human. The synthetic voice videos are out of control. Great info!

where to put it if you drive a compact sedan XD
Here's what I learned from being on the radio. You'll get squashed in the mud without a little fire in the wire lol
This poor guy got drug in from a truck stop and was told to talk about CB radios.
Do you hate 4 watts? Buy a Stryker :D
Don't tell my heart, my achey breakey heart, I just don't think it'ed understand, bahhhhh
you don't have any idea !!!
If getting a CB setup for your auto is a “daunting” task then you should be buying a purse instead.
no one uses cb anymore waste of money and time
Wrong!
Totally wrong
Wrong
A lot of people use cd. It is a degenerate waste land of hookers and grumpy old truckers who get angry that you are on ”their channel".
