Olli, thanks for making near daily star citizen videos. I know you and your editor are working your butts off to get content out. I appreciate having some good ol classic Olli43 content to enjoy on my lunch breaks every day
To be honest, I don't do gold runs with my M2. Too risky and there's never any supply anyhow and I don't feel like waiting to fill up and then get ganked by some pirates. I prefer Beryl runs. You're less likely to be pirated because Beryl is like, 1/3rd the value of Gold and you can do very quick runs from SMO-22/SMO-10 to NB ... making around 200K per run every 10~15 minutes.
I don't know what their aim for the game is, but I think it would be cool to have some live trade pricing where certain planets produce certain materials and other planets use those materials. Then over time those planets need re-stocking, and the longer they go without those trades, the higher the price they'll pay to receive some. Then its up to the players to make those trades routes and keep the planets stocked up.
Thats the plan at least. They are implementing the Quanta system where a few hundred thousand "npcs" do different jobs including mining, trading and piracy and the economy and distress signals are going to be populated and constantly updated based on random chance and player intervention.
They refer to this as the "quantum economy" system, and is one of the larger tasks they have to solve before release, the idea being that NPC's also compete and contribute to the economy aswel
Bro I’m fourteen and I’m pretty sure I’ll still be alive when CIG either ditches this entire thing or becomes the most insane space mmo ever. In ten years I’ll only be 24
Olli "It's SOOO good" 43 You make me so freaking nervous dilly dallying around after making your purchase. Have your jump route set and quantum drive spooled before you ever lift off!!
Honestly just before you set your route to arccorp, I thought of that one time when that exact thing happened to me, a pirate blocked the quantum lane and got me out of it. Luckily he was afk but I was kind of shocked that it actually worked. I just went past him and QT back to arccorp though my caterpillar had full cargo of Laranite so yeah - was not a pleasant encounter.
as a fairly new subscriber to your channel, i thought the quality to your video was excellent! really nice stuff, cant wait to see a followup of this series
If you head to microtech, you can get more gold per refresh. My org will sometimes send a c2 ther to load up completely, while a couple escorts scare away everyone else and scout out the area before you leave. Can make massive profits that way. If you take the time, you could land a cargo ship and a fighter at the gold mine, and then fight off the baddies before you leave in the cargo ship
My best guess for ships being there is pirates will leave a cargo ship (to pick up leftovers) and then respawn. They can then head back with a different ship that can prevent quantum travel. What the person in the mantis was doing, I'm assuming, is just scanning the ships on the pads for cargo aboard.
Yeah, putting all your funding into a cargo load can be painful if it goes wrong. Not only pirates, but getting 30k’d will lose the load too most all the time.
The safest doglegs involve uncommon destinations. Don't pick a major planet, pick a less-used lagrange station to start your dogleg. It's usually not a problem starting from a rotating starting position on a moon (because early-point snares can't target routes from moving locations accurately, that's why most snares are close to the end), but it can be a big problem if you start from a non-rotating refinery like an L1 station. An organized org can for instance snare ARC-L1 all 4 TDDs to catch people who think they're being smart by avoiding an ARC-L1 ArcCorp snare to sell their quant. Early snares to Microtech from refineries work pretty well if you know there's miners in the area.

My prediction: when more solar systems are released and economy is perfected, the A2 and M2 will be great for hauling the more valuable products long distances. Less fear of piracy with flying tanks and big guns. Same deal when Liberator finally drops, you can have other players pay you to ferry their smaller ships long distances and you still also have 400scu of space separate from the vehicle bay. Just be warned that this is THE easiest way to get pirated right now. This specific ship (along with the Cat) and this specific cargo is what they're keying in on. If you're going to do it, you really need to be running with a crew, at least have your turrets manned, preferably have an escort as well. Stock is shared across servers (on a region I believe) for all commodities, so you'll never fill with gold unless you spend a significant amount of time waiting or get lucky and get there first after a patch drops. If you wait around trying to fill, that makes you even more of a pirate target. They go after those people and break into their ships while they're waiting at the terminal. I used to do a lot of cargo hauling in a Cat and C2, but stopped when cargo was physicalized. I don't have a crew to run with, and it's far too high risk these days without one. On the plus side pirates basically live on gold routes now, so you can do other things virtually risk free. Now I do small quantity drug runs if I feel like running cargo. Still fairly profitable, some risk is there but it's minimal.
