    Clarification - the Mississippi Coastal Casinos do not have to be floating on water anymore. After Katrina, Mississippi lawmakers changed the law so that they can be on land but have to be within a specified number of feet from the water. Thanks for Watching!

    Not only did Katrina wipe out the Mississippi gulf coast but so did Camile in 1969. When Katrina hit everyone was focused on New Orleans and the devastation there but the coast was, dare I say, was ignored. A news weather broadcast actually called us a mass between Alabama and Louisiana. But the Mississippi Gulf Coast is resilient, and we build back better each time we encounter a storms such as these.

      @WhichPathTravelogue  7 місяців тому +1

      Yes, you definitely built back, even better than before. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts. People need to know Katrina was more than NOLA.

    I am in southeast Louisiana, but we go to the coast often. I will be there in 2 weeks on our way back from Alabama. We plan on stopping to shop and eat in Ocean Springs. In Sept, my niece VRBO'd a house for 8 cousins and 2 aunts in Long Beach. I often go to Island View and Beach View with friends. I love the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Thank you for this really good video

      Thank you for the kind words! I am doing lots of videos based on places in Louisiana also. Do you have any favorite places in Louisiana that I should do a video on? I am working on some videos now of Lafayette and New Iberia. I just published Exploring Secrets of Tabasco. 😀

    Don't forget Pascagoula! No highway noise on that beach (now named Jimmy Buffett Beach). Pascagoula has a fun little old downtown area (start on Delmas Ave) with WONDERFUL food & cool pubs... not far from that is Brady's Steaks and Seafood on the river. This has turned into such a quiet city full of interesting people ready to chat. Peaceful walks on the beach and fishing

      Thank you so much for watching. I did not make it to Pascagoula on my trip, but I will be sure to use your recommendations on my next trip to that area.

    • @nette49

      Pascagoula is not actually on the coast, not on Beach Blvd/90 so she didn't get there. It seems this was only 90 on the coast. But yes, Pascagoula is a quaint town. I have stayed there many years ago.

      We are on the coast! Our beach is right there just like Mobile is coastal. That's like saying because someone lives in Waveland/Hancocok county they aren't the coast because they aren't directly on the beach itself. @@nette49

    Super interesting. No idea the beaches are man-made. No idea the casinos have to be on water and no idea the damage from Katrina... news seemed to focus on New Orleans. My dad did basic training in Biloxi in the 1950's so peaked my interest. #VRAFam

      I was also unaware of the beaches being man made. I do need to clarify, after Katrina, the casinos do not have to be on water anymore, but they do have to be within a certain number of feet. Thank you for watching! #VRAFam

      The entire MS gulf coast got smacked by Katrina. Yes the coverage only went to Nola due to flooding and the levee breaking but ms got hit head on it looked like a bomb went off. Entire casinos were moved from their original locations. The president casino was moved like a mile and grand Gulfport and grand biloxi moved across the street. 20-28ft storm surges

    Some other best secrets are: The Gulf water is not good for swimming that's why you don't see many swimmers, and since Katrina the casino's have raised their house edge on most games - like slots and video poker.

      Because of the small islands, you get no surf or wave motion. No sound of ocean. That is the only negative. I love ocean sounds so we go to Gulf Shores in Alabama. But I love the MS coastal towns for everything else!

    Excellent video (except for the intercut shots of Vegas). Just the right length for an overview, well-produced, and a good job of covering the entire strip. Although I have lived in California for many years now, I grew up in Jackson, MS, and my family spent many vacations on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

      Biloxi used to be corrupt pre-casinos, especially in the 70s. There were literally ''cat houses'' in the numerous strip joints. You could negotiate with a stripper and spend some quality time in the back rooms...lol! Same with massage parlors. Biloxi was also known back in the day for the Dixie Mafia, as well as corrupt sheriffs, cops, and mayors. Whatever you think Biloxi is today, it's nothing compared to the way it was before the casinos!

    The beaches are GROSS. They may have artificially piled sand at the water’s edge to create a “beach,” but walk a couple dozen yards out into the water and you are walking in slimy MUD. The water is the color of chocolate milk year round.
