Step aside Chain Chomp, for our superior dog has come along
A literal stapler
Nah
Can the stapler literally insta-kill you though?
@@DaSheepKiller with how much damage that mofo does it might as well
Well, i think it is stationary version of chain chomp as chain chomp and stapler have the same colour, lol
@@DaSheepKiller Not insta. But if it has a fresh batch of golden clips and it manages to get you stuck with no guard, you're done for.
I love how dramatic parts of this theme sound. The composers strike a great balance between "you're fighting a dog" and "you're fighting the penultimate boss who was unleashed as one last resort to kill you by the big bad before facing him yourself"
not just a dog but an actual stapler
Very true

Yeah, it does a surprisingly good job of making this battle feel like it's the last thing you need to brave before finally taking on Olly.
So, just like Mega Man X then?
@@VideoGameVlad84 With Sigma's dog? Pretty much.
I remember seeing a stapler being mentioned in the origami craftsman’s house but I thought “nah, it’s a reference to a cut boss or something” and BOY, was I wrong.
you already fought a "cut boss" at the end of green streamer
@@TerraKnight27 God. That was a good one.
I never noticed this my first time playing but I've been watching a Let's Play of it and the stapler is foreshadowed at the very beginning :P In Peach's Castle you see its shadow stapling some of the kidnapped toads and stuff

Not so fun fact: I accidentally Stapled my right ring finger when I was 12. When we got to the urgent Care, we found out that the staple was brushing right up against the bone. I was somehow very lucky. And that was a REGULAR silver staple. I don't even want to think what Red or Golden one could've done to me.😬

He dislocated the dog’s jaw. Even though it was a bad dog it didn’t deserve that 😢
I was actually surprised how he did it
I love the electric guitar dog woofs in the background. It's a really small detail that helps make this song amazing.
Wow I never really noticed that. They really went all out on this soundtrack
Are they woofs?
Kinda just sounds like a dude electronically saying "ow"
Ribbon listen closely to 0:42 to 0:47 it sounds like a dog barking. Obviously it doesn’t sound exactly like a dog but it seems like thats what it’s trying to convey.
Sometimes a weird whistle appears in the background. Maybe it represents how we usually call a dog with whistling?
@@Ribboppity it's a "wan wan", japanese onomatopoeia for barking
Normal staplers: Fine I guess
Red staplers: It's eating away at my health
Gold staplers: Death...idk never got to it
Let's just say, in the rematch, if it uses its ultimate attack on you with Gold Staplers good luck staying alive.
You'll be cutting it close.
Yes I know cutting is Scissors's thing but I can't think of an appropriate term to use in the Stapler's case.
@@gravity8120 I got a better one, don't let the Staples clip you in the ground.
I was at half health, saw the gold, and decided to heal. I survived by 6 HP.

Because it was definitely not death.
I had a 1UP mushroom in this fight that got used up, and I ended up with 2 HP before I finally finished the Stapler off.

Same here lmao I let out a cry of “OH WAIT I FORGOT ABOUT YOU” when it came bursting through the doors of Olly’s castle
Rachel Franqui I must be stupid. What was the foreshadowing?
@@scouter8207 right at the start of the game you see the Stapler turning Bowser's minions into folded soldiers but only see the shadows. The Origami Craftsman has real tools of all of the Legion of Stationary on his desk (which you see before Tape, Scissors and Stapler)
This comes right after Disco Devil and Shifty Sticker as my third favorite boss theme..What I love about it the most is that it capures Staplers personality perfectly. He's an uncontrollable and wild animal, and yet an incredible big threat, best demonstarted through the main part of the song at 0:58..Oh man that part's so good.
Personally, my favorite song is tied between Disco Devil and Shifty Sticker, and this is my second favorite,

*Second thought:* "OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW OW!"
Though it's kinda hilarious how it biting you with no staplers loaded literally does one damage per bite. You'd think something clamping down on you, staples or no staples, would hurt more than a Goomba Headbonk.
Look, man, have YOU ever tried using a stapler with no staples? It's hard! He's trying his best...
(this is a joke obviously, would like to clarify that)
you forgot the third thought, "WHY CAN'T I MOVE??"
@@superkirbyxcool7217 lol i see
Tbf it's just pressing Mario, a piece of paper, between two flat surfaces. That wouldn't do much damage.
Well if you think of the staples as its teeth (which makes the red ones scarier) then it's like a toothless dog clamping down on you... very sad to think of, but it wouldn't do anything to you other than *nom*
I cant unsee stapler bopping to this beat
I don’t think that’s something you would NOT imagine. The theme is THAT good!
Forget what they’ve said before, this dog’s bite is way worse than it’s bark.
I just love how all the themes of the LoS show their personality (and also that they where not origami koopalings)
I wish we could’ve worked with the Koopalings during this; Ludwig is my favourite.

@@cappilau7448 Did you ever figure it out?
It's pretty good man.
This was probably my favourite boss fight in the game. And favourite boss theme.
If you fail your block ONCE, then you're in for undodgeable pain. And if you screw up your block even once when it does Bite Barrage... Say goodbye to half your health, if not more!
Felt like it really picked up the slack after how anticlimactic Scissors was to fight.
And if you only hammer the stapler and it does bite barrage, it also uses staple gun. Ez win for doggo
Anticlimatic?
Oh buddy, you froze the guy immeaditly before had to face 3+ one hit ko attacks huh?
Not if you break the Scissors cover immediately lol
Despite how comparatively easy Scissors’ fight was, you can’t lie, the theme for it goes hard
I broke the cover on my first fight. That was the opposite of anticlimactic, It was terrifying, one wrong move and you’re dead.
Fun fact: if the ultimate attack (bite barrage) doesn’t give away all it’s staples, it will use the staple gun.
Fun fact: If that happens, you are pretty much dead even from full HP
This is the best theme for a dog I will ever heard. Period.
On par with Toby Fox.
Clearly you've never heard of metal gear rising
Very true, nothing else even comes close.
Chain Chomp Wheel from MKWii is close
On par with eternatus vs zacian and zamazenta
I keep hearing small bits of Roy's theme from Color Splash...
Makes sense since like Roy this is the penultimate fight of the game. Despite not having as much intelligence as the other Legions of Stationary and mostly being a feral animal the Stapler can be debated as the secondary antagonist of the game as due to his actions of stapling people under Olly's command resulting in the creation of his troops the Folded Soldiers and it is implied that with Stapler's defeat that the surviving Folded Soldiers lost their folded appearance like Bowser and returned to normal. When you think about it the main villain of this game is like Dimentio in abilities and goals mixed with Bleck's tragic undertones. The only real difference is the Origami King as the main villain is established early on where as with Super while there are hints Dimentio is the main antagonist they don't outright say he is until the very end.

This was an insanely fun boss fight, and this song is almost as vicious as he is!

I'd like to know why Olly made the Stapler a dog
@Otneimica I thought that Olly gave the LOS sentience.
@Otneimica It's never stated, but that's what I interpreted from the picture in the credits where the LOS are shown on a table.
This was to good not to be the final boss song it’s so epic
Way to exiting not really fitting for this game’s final boss but fitting for Stapler
I mean it's right before the final boss.
It's works really well as a penultimate boss. Besides, Olly's theme masterfully goes for a more emotional type of symphonic metal.
Fun Fact: You can beat Stapler without it reaching its golden staple phase, just make sure to plan out your +1 and x2 panels correctly!
The part where Mario legit snapped the stapler's jaw in half felt like someone grabbed a sharp stake and stabbed my heart like a vampire. The fact the Stapler is basically a doggo makes it ten times worse

That satisfying moment when you perfect parry the Gold Staple Gun when 0:57 kicks in:
After multiple game overs in the battle lab, NOTHING was more satisfying than snapping that damned stapler in half.
There have been many awesome & memorable soundtracks over time, but what makes this special (in addition to it's originality, excellent and organic mix of physical and synthetic instrumental, ...) is how it masterfully conveys the feelings of the presented situation (with a level of rigor and detail such that you can even deduce context without having played it).
In this one we can appreciate details such as the intermittent variation in volume after the intro transition, that represents the wild creature trying to bite; or the pre-dramatic transition, where the criature seems to bite heavily & violently (all of this figured out just from music). ✨️
