I love the headcanon that Paper Mario decided to jump over the attack because he learned how to dodge in Mario and Luigi: Paper Jam.
Yooo that’s sick
yeah that checks out
I can't remember, does he do his little flutter jump thing I'm pretty sure he had in Paper Jam?
@@pearlplayaa Unfortunately not, it'd be a cool detail though.

I love how you need to press A exactly when the insta-kill attack is supposed to kill you. It really adds to the tension and stress.
Me too. Actually I thought at first it was indeed an unavoidable attack, so in a vague hope to see how much I could tank, I decided to close my eyes, block the attack, and then I opened my eyes only to find out I jumped over it.

Out of all the Legion of Stationary, the Duelist was the most threatening, but also the most respectable.

I like that ONE attack where Scissors is like:
“Eh, f*** it”
And he just immediately kills you without doing a stylish flip or anything.
Whatever gets the job done!
He just drops on the ground out of nowhere and comes charging at you. It was honestly scary at first.
@Not a fruit you have to open the chest in order to reveal the magic circles and the velumental tiles

One of the first things you get in Sticker Star is one of the last bosses in this game
Ironic
Bowser Jr getting beaten by the scissors in Sticker Star was actually just foreshadowing for what they do to him in this game
And this time, IT'S OUT FOR BLOOD!!
For the love of God people need to stop misusing the word "ironic." That's not at all what irony is.
@@Kirodev But they literally used it in the correct definition?
I don't see your point.
From ally to enemy, I see…
Scissors' personality was not at all what I was expecting. I figured with the creepy cutout monsters and the horrifying face monster, he'd be some kind of deranged psychopath. Instead he ended up being the most honourable member of the Legion.
Yeah, it was a cool surprise.

Man, this fight wasn't hard, but the fact that you're fighting this guy who will literally decapitate you if you don't dodge its attack makes it a really unnerving experience.
Facts
POV: you jumped into the blade but had a 1up mushroom then died to the jump again
Yeah that’s true
The fight was definitely hard lol what
@@chrange9714to my knowledge, Scissors has two different "routes", if you will, for how you can fight them- a hard one and an easier one. The easy one happens if, as the game VERY strongly recommends you to do, you don't break Scissors' cover during the first phase (which they eventually remove anyways, but magic circles will be active from there on and you can stun them). Meanwhile, the hard route happens if you DO break Scissors' cover, from which they will go all out and no magic circles will be provided at all, making the fight a pure test of wits and reaction time with whatever weapons you have at your disposal (made even harder on top of the fact that, as Scissors keeps attacking, they'll begin to use fakeouts)...
I absolutely love this song, and not just because it slaps, but because it so PERFECTLY captures Scissor's personality; He appears to be an honorable gentleman compared to the other boss fights, but in reality he is totally deranged. He cut out people's faces and put them onto a macho beetle. He pretends to give you a fair fight by sheathing himself, when in reality he's just taunting you and laughing at you because he knows he'll win. He's toying with you. Absolutely psychotic, just like the song.
Jetstream Sam vibes in both song and mind

Yes. I wonder if Ice Hammer or Ice Flower could be more effective on him.
This boss wasn't ultimately the most difficult, but damn, was it unsettling. I didn't know scissors could be so scary!
Honestly I agree with you there. Especially since the boss's main attack, Final Cut, can instantly kill you if you don't dodge it's attacks because you are literally *cut in half,* you're pretty much on edge the entire time. You're literally paper fighting scissors. It's pretty damn unnerving, but I had a damn good time with it.
I agree. This was one of the most nerve-racking boss battles I ever had.
TissueBomb it's also probably the most graphic death in this entire spin-off series.
At this point, you are now afraid of safety scissors
@@lfvgamerbro Funnily enough, I use rotary cutters and razors to cut paper more often than scissors lol
I love all the League of Stationery bosses, but The Dual-Blade Duelist is probably the most intimidating of them all in terms of build up.
He makes these creepy cutout soldiers, that terrifying Handaconda boss, cuts all the faces of Bowser's minions on a Paper Macho Buzzy Beetle (with the faces still being alive, mind you), and completely slices Bowser Jr. to shreds earlier in the area.
And this cocky as hell guy decides to toy with you during the fight by covering his blades to give you a "fair advantage" until he gets bored or if you actually break the case. With a move that will completely one-shot you if you're not careful. The way he unsheathes himself is also pretty freaking cool.
This theme is also a personal favorite of mine next to The Fanged Fastener, The Disco Devil, and The Shifty Sticker. It's fast-paced, gets straight to the point, the violins carry this sense of urgency with the guitars adding a lot of intensity. Followed with the quirky Paper Mario-esque instruments that the series is known for. Especially around 0:43 - 1:06.
I know scissors can be pretty dangerous in real life, but in a world where everything is made of paper...it's everyone's nightmare.

Lol, I was going to ask if anyone broke the cover to see what would happen! Sounds like it was a good thing I didn't.
I like how that is 100% my experience with the boss to a T. Only difference is that I actually did dodge the instakill at the end there somehow. I don't know how I dodged it every single time, but it was stressful.
@@TheSbugZone I dodged the instakill purely by accident the one time he tried it. The button prompt startled me and somehow I got the timing right.
A better battle system and a level up function if Nintendo wants to call this series an "RPG" still. As far as the gameplay goes, Boss Battles are amazing! However, the party system, how there's no tradition level-up rubrics, the boring/basic attacks Mario has, and the ring system that shoehorns in puzzles where they have no business being all make the gameplay even worse than Color Splash's. This post isn't supposed to be a "REEEE TTYD OR BUST" post. It's just a point that lists several aspects I think _everyone_ is overlooking in an attempt to make PM TOK look better than it actually is. It's by no means a bad game. It's just a HUGE disappointment.
@@bigboybunter3417 you should just stop seeing them as traditional Paper Mario games. Paper Mario is nothing but a "we don't want to start a new IP, so let's take this one for all paper related ideas we have". There isn't going to be another game like the first two in this series. If you don't have Paper Mario expectations going into them (honestly, why do you still have those, now we have double the amount of non-RPG PM games than we have RPG PM games), you don't get nearly as much disappointment.
The disappoint is - like most of the time - probably 70+% the audience just expecting the wrong things, or too much. If you take this game as stand alone, it's a great game. combat is kinda lackluster outside of bossfights, but the overworld gameplay is honestly good and the writing, soundtrack and bossfights are excellent.
This song captures fighting a rightfully cocky creature that can kill you in one hit perfectly

This is my favorite of the entire legion of stationery. Scissors has a presence throughout the entire arc much unlike Tape before it,
(SPOILERS AHEAD)
first by slicing up Bowser Jr., then by creating the paper cutout soldiers, slicing up all of Bowser's minions, and kidnapping Olivia. Then you get 2 whole boss fights before Scissors between both Handaconda and the Paper Mistake Buzzy Beetle. And then this boss fight is really good, and it's all topped off by the Scissors' anime villain personality. I love it.

I don't know how they did it, but they managed to make a pair of scissors the scariest gaming antagonist this year. Seriously, everything this game throws at you is so damn creative, I have nothing but praise for it.

I love how the electric guitar is the most apparent instrument in Scissor's theme in particular! That's really good character theming when you think about it!
