    When you cast turn the reel to the side. that way you keep the momentum, you will cast further.

      Anthony Sanchez Thanks for the reminder! I know better to be doing this, but for some reason lost all technique trying the tranx out 🤦‍♂️😂

      The tranx has a lot of braking. On my 400 I have two brakes on when casting with 1 oz jig heads. And it just launched those lures. Love the Tranx!

      Anthony Sanchez I have 3 on 3 off for the 8” hudd which is almost 5 ounces, I may be able to get away with 2 on honestly. But this reel is definitely one of my favorites

    I never understood why bass fisherman need 300-400 size reel. Bass doesn’t fight or run, just dead weight. We catch 40” Red Drum fish here in the south with 150 size baitcaster reels.

    • @McClovinFishing
      @McClovinFishing  6 років тому +4

      It’s only the swimbait fishermen. I’ll tell you exactly why. 300 size reel offers the line capacity for 20-30lb mono for long casts while using 3-10 ounce swimbaits. A normal 100 size reel would not have nearly enough line for a cast on a 8 ft rod and big swimbait. It’s not about the fish running. Also the 300 sized reels are designed to cast 3-10 ounce lures that we are using, without wearing down the breaks like a 100 size would. Contact shimano if you think otherwise. There are also larger gears for wenching in the select caliber of bass we are targeting. If you were to set the hook into a bass while using a big swimbait and 100 size reel, you will bend the frame, and the drag would easily slip and gears would break. Trying throwing a 6oz weight on your 150 sized reel and 20lb mono and you tell me if you feel underpowered or not :)

      @ayeajjj 6 років тому +3

      We dont use it cuz they fight the hardest dude its called a “swimbait reel” ment for big swimbaits and ment to hold alot if heavy line (also) for the swimbait. U go try to use ur regular size reel on a 8 inch hudd or up to a deps250 or bigger and fish it for a month and get back to me

      @los843 6 років тому +3

      Try to throw 6+ ounces, 18,20, 25 and even 30lb mono or fluorocarbon line on a 150 reel for 6+hrs. Bet it will blow up.

      Depends what part of the country you're fishing Bass and what species. Giant Largemouth south n west. Smallies fight hard. ..And if you've ever caught a hybrid striper I promise you need every bit of a 300 400 size.

    • @McClovinFishing
      @McClovinFishing  4 роки тому +2

      landlocked striper as well. I caught a 44lb lake record on a 300 tranx. that fish would’ve gassed a 150 reel any day

    Good video but it looks like your overloading that rod throwing the hudd...

    • @McClovinFishing
      @McClovinFishing  6 років тому +3

      Dobyns rates this rod up to 8oz, but I agree with you. It can manage it, however I think they way over-rated the rod so now I’m using daiwa DXSB XXH

    Tell me please: how much real 65 lb power pro line capacity 300 size?

    • @McClovinFishing
      @McClovinFishing  5 років тому

      tough to say depending on the reel. The tranx 300 can hold 125 yards of 65lb power pro braid.

    Ive heard the 806 is a much better glide and hard swimbait rod and doesn’t like heavy soft swims like the hudds. What weight was that hudd?

    Can you please tell me is it okay to put this reel on Westin w3 40-130 gram rod (1.5oz-4.5oz) ? What are the down size lures that Tranx 301 can cast? Like Super Shad Rap weighing 45 grams,will it throw it normally or its to big reel? And its okay to spool it with 40/50 pound braid? Wanna use it for pike lures in that range the rod is...Thx...

    Is 200 size good to use swimbaits like 50 to 60 grams???? If so which gear ratio is perfect for this application

      McClovinFishing ohh it’s a 7 ft st croix mojo inshore and I think I’m going to put a daiwa costal 200 on it. Also I use it for striper in the sf bay

      when it’s “open” you can twist the reel cover off to access the internal brakes

    No break offs on braid?

    • @McClovinFishing
      @McClovinFishing  6 років тому +1

      Never. 80lb braid doesn’t snap off like lighter braids and a 25lb mono leader helps with some of that absorption if I ever backlash

    What leader knot do you tie?

    • @McClovinFishing
      @McClovinFishing  6 років тому +1

      Dillingham M.I. I keep it simple with the blood knot because its so fast and easy to tie on the water. I’ve tried the FG and all the other viral connection knots, but they’re all hype in my opinion 😂

    • @edillingham.fishing
      @edillingham.fishing 6 років тому

      McClovinFishing haha have to had any break offs with that knot? I’m looking for a easy simple but strong knot to tie. Have had to mainly other break offs with the other knot I tie.

    • @McClovinFishing
      @McClovinFishing  6 років тому +1

      Dillingham M.I. It’s so easy and strong- I have never had a problem with it and it really isn’t all that big of a knot either. I’m able to throw 5 oz baits, backlash and have it hold up. I can also re-tie in a minute, so give it a try 👍
