  • First time ever testing out the Tranx 500! I've been a big believer in the Daiwa Lexa 400 for a long time, but I felt with the style of fishing I have been growing more towards over the past couple years, it is time to step it up and upgrade to the Tranx!
    I have absolutely no complaints what so ever! Amazing reel, absolute work horse! Could not be any happier with this investment!

    I cast 4 oz. on my Tranx 500 with all 6 brakes set, I get very long distance and when it hits water no need for thumb no backlash or thumb needed,brakes do not slow the distance of a cast distance works better with heavier weights/ irons etc. I have not to get a back lash with all 6 brakes set and it does not limit my distance of up to 75 yards with a 4 oz. weight and a 7'6" rod ....

    Im contemplating getting a Tranx 300 for shore fishing. Would a tranx get further casting distance than a spinning reel ?

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  6 місяців тому

      A spinning reel will always out cast a baitcaster of any kind because they’res 0 resistance of spool tension.

  • @TheJwhollis
    @TheJwhollis 3 роки тому +1

    Which is your more "go to" reel, the Tranx 500 or Trini 20 ???

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  3 роки тому +2

      TheJwhollis I think I get equal use out of the 2 of them, but I do feel the trini is more versatile.
      Nice fast and powerful reel that can really wench in some fish when needed, also great for speed retrieving yoyos, and fly lines really nicely.
      As for casting, I do think the tranx casts more smoothly and easier with the magnetic breaks, however with that being said, someone with a very trained thumb can outcast a tranx on a trini any day of the week.
      Honestly a lot to take into consideration between these 2 reels. If you want strictly casting from light small lures to full size jigs, tranx is great. If you want a lot of versatile for multiple different uses, I’d go with the trini

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  11 місяців тому +1

      So the HG stands for High Gear, and PG stands for Power Gear. Personally, I never had the intention of casting this real at any fish over 50lbs so I went with the HG to have a little bit faster reel.
      But if you plan on using it for Bluefin fishing, or foamer fishing, I’d definitely recommend the PG for that extra power when you’ll need it while fighting a fish

    Always enjoy watching your videos bud...questions, how was it casting the trinidad 20a vs the tranx 500 on the 100 j-mag, also, did you ever try it on the lexa 400?

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  5 років тому +3

      charlie071197 the Trinidad 20a is a fantastic reel but me personally, I still have yet to perfect casting with conventional reels and that’s the main reason I invested in the tranx. I’ve missed a lot of opportunities at fish during a wide open bite because of picking out a backlash. So for me personally, at this point, I prefer the Tranx 500 for casting irons. I have not tried the daiwa 400 on my 100 J. I’m sure it would be fine but I personally felt I needed the bigger spool for the style of fishing I plan to get into for the future

    What is your favorite braid for casting jigs?

    • @Dirty.Hookers
      @Dirty.Hookers  2 роки тому

      Over the last 2 years I’ve been using the 65lb power pro max cuatro on all of my for my surface iron reels, 50 lb max cuatro on fly line, and 80lb on heaver reels.
      However, I don’t cast straight braid on conventional tackle. I usually have a 80+ yard top shot of mono for both surface irons and fly line.
      Only time I have full spool of braid to a short leader of fluoro is while casting snipers and other jigs at tuna

      SeaRex around the Ventura area, there’s Channel Islands Sport fishing, Hooks Sportfishing, and Ventura sportfishing.
      All 3 landings have boats that range from $70-$120 a ticket. We’re at the end of our season out here so all the boats have been mainly rockfishing.
      However if you get on one of the more expensive boats ($90-$120 a ticket) you have a better chance at ling cod and sheep head. The better boats usually try to put better quality meat in the bags for everyone

      This video is a good recap on what to do and how to cast. However. I personally don’t dunk my reel like what is said in this video. I’ll either get a hand full of water and poor it on the spool or get a little splash from a water bottle on the spool to help wet the line.
