Thanks very much. Hope you are getting some clear skies down there in the BoP. Finally getting a few clear nights up here in Auckland which is nice for a change.
Found your channel while researching scopes. Went with askar 65 phq. Still have some bits to acquire before i get to imaging. Clear skies, from Southern California.
Thanks for checking out the channel, much appreciated. I hope you will be as happy with the Askar 65PHQ as I am with mine. Clear skies from New Zealand
You folks in the southern hemisphere have some fantastic DSOs to image, really makes me want to take a trip down under to see what I can capture. Fantastic images!
Thanks Dave. Likewise when it comes to your northern hemisphere DSO's. I wonder if we can organise the world to flip over, even just for a couple of years, so we can have a crack at each others targets 😂. Clear skies.
Thanks Sergio. Yes the Chameleon complex is a very cool area for imaging.... just not in Bortle 5/6 🤣. I definitely plan to revisit the area from darker skies. Clear skies.
Thanks for sharing your images and experience. Those dark nebulae subs seem like an act of faith prior to processing but are certainly spectacular when you've brought everything together. And of course, what's not to love when it comes to Carina 😊.
Thank you Robert. Yep, when those subs roll in on dark nebulae they can be very disheartening but it's definitely worth it once the processing starts. Agree with you about Carina - the jewel in our southern sky. CLear skies.
Wow! Love seeing objects I certainly have never heard of. I’ve never shot dark nebulae from where I live because I assumed I wouldn’t see anything. You’ve inspired me to try! Also great “Dusty Mountain” shot.
Thanks Eric. It's surprising what you can pick up with these dark nebula, even from light polluted sites, however, as I said in the video, for the best results I'm going to stick with imaging these from darker skies. It is very disconcerting when those subs roll and and it looks like you are capturing....... nothing but I'm still amazed at how, what looks like nothing, suddenly becomes something with defined dust cloud shapes and structures once the processing starts. Clear skies.
Thanks Bruce. There are a few video tutorials on UA-cam describing the process. I think I used this one here by Martin Schoenmaker ua-cam.com/video/VCgMoqlBFHs/v-deo.html Clear skies
Thanks very much John. I find these dark nebulae quite a challenge to process but I guess I'm not making it any easier on myself imaging them in light polluted skies 🙃. Clear skies
Thanks Demetrios. Yeah I think imaging near a major city certainly takes its toll on imaging quality but you gotta work with what ya got🙃. Fortunately I do have a second option with darker skies for imaging so that's where I will be chasing these dark dust clouds in future (the only type of cloud I don't shout at 🤣).
Yep I watch all your videos I noticed you have another opinion for imaging if it ain’t light pollution it’s these clouds ( the wet ones not the dust ) we are definitely having a bad run with the weather !
Thanks very much. Yes I am a fan of this telescope for sure. Now I just need this damn weather to behave so I can get more time imaging with it. Clear skies.
@@OlliesSpace Ah HA! Now I get it! This trip is no co-incidence! You are on the guest list for the King's coronation! I hear the palace has very nice tea and scones. 🤣
Thanks Nik. They are probably not going to show up on Stellarium - it seems to be missing a lot of stuff. I think the best thing to do would be to go to my Astrobin images and look down to the acquisition details, it will give the Ra and Dec co-ordinate and you can just plug those into the framing wizard of NINA . www.astrobin.com/tg8xiz/F/
Hey Logan, great video and excellent images mate, despite the Auckland City light dome! Not seen the dark nebulas before, really nice targets! At least you got a good number of hours, I’ve been struggling here! Got 3 nights last week, a total of 12 hrs, but could only use 5, due to satellites and clouds!😖I can only hope things get better, oh but wait, summer is coming 🤦♂️ Clear skies
Thanks Simon. Yes I had a run of clear nights for a bit but that's now come to a grinding halt (it's back to the old "a months rain in a few days" again! Uggh!). There are some really nice dark nebula areas near the SCP but I won't be shooting those from here again..... gotta wait till I get back up to Langs Beach. I feel your pain about the weather and hope things clear up for so you can the most use of that superb obsy of yours.
Nice image and video logan!! Damm that Dark nebula looks sooo 3d and Unique 🤯. Its my dream to Photograph the Carina Nebula and Omega Centauri, It does rises 25 deg in my northern skies of 17° Latitude! So Maybe i could do it??
Looking at this scope. f/6.4 seems high for deepsky, is it challenging to image with high f ratio like this? Would you recommend the 65PHQ, I've head a lot of good things about it. Is it hard to achieve backfocus?
It's a great scope and whilst there are faster scopes out there, f/6.4 is perfectly fine for deepsky targets. Back focus isn't an issue for this design of telescope so no need to be mm perfect.
Lovely images mate I've only ever shot one dark nebula so I may have to shoot some more this season if the weather ever improves as it's been pretty horrible lately.
Thanks very much Tich. I've always loved the look of the dark nebula - something very raw and basic about all that primordial dust. Hope your weather improves - ours has turned to trash.... again ☁☁☁🌧🌨🌩
Great images Logan! Carina never gets old. I'd shoot it all the time if I could. Your dark nebula shots are impressive for the light pollution. I will be taking my 65PHQ with me to the Texas star party in a couple of weeks. Hopefully the weather cooperates! CS!
Thanks James. Ahhh I'm so jealous that you will be shooting with the Askar in those dark skies! But perfect timing for imaging the "dark side". Clear skies.
Awesome video, clear sky from the Bay of Plenty!

I say rock on with the dark nebula - these are very nice images ! Great work

Thanks Steve. I am really enjoying using the Askar 65PHQ - it's a great little scope for sure. Clear skies.
Love the images Logan! I see the southerm witch! My wife has seen me a big tunafish in the Viel nebula in Cygnus now.. I can't unsee it either.
Thanks Jason. Our better halves seem to have good observation skills..... when it comes to weird and wacky nebula shapes 😂.

Amazing to see the detail and colour develop in the final shot, so many wonders hidden to us in the aether 🌠
Thanks Samuel. Yep lots of amazing objects floating about above us.

Very nice Dark nebula Logan, should call you the Dark Nebula Hunter. That scope is performing well.
Thanks Ollie. I'm enjoying "hunting" these dark nebula but not going to make the same mistake again and try it from Auckland. You in the UK yet?
