Soul food is very subjective. The way it’s cooked depends one where your Southern roots are from. My mother was from Arkansas and my dad was from Texas. My dad’s fried chicken was so good, but he couldn’t cook greens as good as my mother. We had every type of greens except collards. They weren’t a staple green for either parent. My mother cooked hot water cornbread, my dad did the oven kind. The best soul food I had outside of my parents’ house was a restaurant on Central a couple of blocks north of Slauson. Can’t remember the name, but the food was delicious!
