The beef French dip, I hit it with a squirt of that mustard on every bite. I also get a lemonade & iced tea and make my own Arnold Palmer. Their cream of broccoli soup is delicious as well.
I absolutely love this place. During the COVID lockdown I drove up to LA and bought a sandwich to go just to get out of the house. I go every time I'm in LA. Love it!!
Phillipe!!!!!¡ A favorite since I was a kid. During Covid, they weren't as good for some reason, but they have improved back to legend status. Give them a try!!!! ❤ 👍 👍BTW I think they also make their own French Bread. In either case , it is the best I've ever had
I've been eating at Philippe since high school, and I'm now 75 years old. I still love it. I also live in the neighborhood of one of the retired family members, and oh, the stories he can share from his many years working at the restaurant. I need to get back up to L.A. and get me some French dip sans.
I had lunch at Philippe's with my brother and sister-in-law the day you filmed this! I had a roast beef (single dip) and a coffee. And that potato salad is indeed the best I've ever had. I'm bummed I missed out on the hot mustard though! Definitely gonna need to go back now. Thanks for the tip!
Always an awesome place. My family and I love going there on the way to Dodger Stadium. My grandfather always raved about it as he started going in the 1930’s.
I ate there several times in the late 70s and early 80s for free. I worked for a plumbing company as an apprentice, and they were one of our accounts. Thoroughly enjoyed the dip.
I have been going to Philippe the Original for years! Pro Tip: Look online and find out the day they are serving French Onion Soup. Get it! Along with the Double Dipped Lamb with Blue Cheese. YOU'RE WELCOME!!!
I am from Northern California. I visited LA every year to visit my cousins. My mothers sister raised her family there. I have ate those delicious sandwiches growing up. The Hat and Tommys Chile dog the bomb. As a Giants Fan Congratulations and hats off to the Dodgers Fans. Nothing but sportsmanship here
Philippe is ok. Their sandwiches are good, but I actually prefer Cole's in DTLA, the other eatery in town that claims to have originated the French Dip. Cole's makes a really good sandwich, plus I like their more distinctive pub-type atmosphere as well as the fact that they serve french fries, which Philippe does not. I like Cole's spicy garlic fries. The Hat also makes an excellent beef dip sandwich, with a cup of au jus on the side.
I ate there. Tried the beef and lamb sandwiches. I really don't understand what the attraction is, but for nostalgia. Really wanted to like it, but was frankly disappointed. Overcooked, flavorless meat on a soggy, meh roll. Aside from the good mustard, nothing to rave about at all. All hype, no substance. I make a better beef dip.
This place is a disappointment every single time. Only reason worth coming here is to buy to go jars of their hot mustard. It's only famous because it's old. It's no better than going to your local Ralph's or Safeway deli.
The first time I went to Philippe's was about '84 I thought it was very expressive and highly overrated. I only returned ten and again about twenty years ago because people I was with wanted to go there for lunch. The only difference was the price went up and there was less meat between the bread. I'm a bit afraid to watch the review because after some of the great sandwich shops you've gone to if you give the food a 👍👍's up I don't think I could trust your opinion anymore😱
Sfter all the hype i visited Phillip's. I was sadly disappointed. It was expensive, lacking in meat. Thier coke slaw was plain shredded cabbage with no flavor. Coconut cream pie is my favorite so i trued a slice, it sucked as well. NEVER AGAIN!!
What is your favorite sandwich flavor at Philippe, or the one you would most order?
french dip
For sure French beef dip with the chili beans. Chili beans are a must.
Double dip beef with macaroni salad ❤

We went on New Years Day. My wifes first time there. so good. The mustard makes amazing deviled eggs!
Must have items

I always get the dbl dipped beef sandwich with potato salad, 1 hard boiled egg. I get the same thing every time.. totally rocks…
Sounds delicious!

Love that you went here. This was one of my dad’s favorites!

Great memories

Another Rockin Episode!
Happy New Year and God bless!
God bless you too!
Best kept secret is breakfast at Philippe -- they fry you up a donut on the spot!
Gotta check it out!
@@RockstarEater Gotta wake up pretty early to get there when it's served--but it's pretty good!
Wow, that's awesome!!!
Looks 🔥.
Yes indeed
Been there. It's like stepping into a time machine to 1910.
Spot on
Another place in L.A. where you can step back in time is The Pantry.
Lord god bless Los Angeles and everyone effected ,sending good vibes
Thanks
Wow no way I was just thinking about this place like yesterday
🤤
i went there on my first trip to LA back in 2009. The dip is like the secret sauce of a big mac. you need to dip in the sandwich.
I love this place. love the lamb and a baked apple
I have been going to Philippe the Original for years!

YOU'RE WELCOME!!!
Oh my god I've always wanted to go there. I'm drooling on my phone. Crazy good. 😋 ❤❤
I LOVE UR VIDS SMMMMMM❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Much appreciated
@ no problem!
Go to Coles in DTLA n try their sandwiches. Also Canters if you want the best pastrami in SoCal

Double dip with mayo is the move.
yummy mustard. sandwiches are okay.
Go to Cole’s and get the authentic French dip.
After 42 years, still the lamb sandwich, with just a small touch of the hot mustard....careful, that stuff could stop your heart 😋
Stay safe! ❤
God bless
You have to try the chili beans, so delicious.
Gotta add that to my list!
I hope its still there after today.
still open? i heard it was going to shut down
you only live once if you do it right once is enough 😂😂❤😂😂😂❤❤😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You should go up the street to Eastside market deli for some killer Italian sandwiches 🤙.
Beef double meat, dipped with swiss and a lemonade.
When the sandwich was created was cheese utilized if so what cheese

Oldest restaurant? You should try to check out Musso and Frank’s
"One of" as video states.
I've had the beet pickled eggs in Idaho.
Nooo ! No more .10 cent coffee ☕😔🥺😭
Tried and didn’t feel the sandwich was amazingly good. But at least I can say I’ve been there.
lamb dip is the best
Good choice
Can't find a decent sandwich anywhere these days. All depends on who is making your food and what time you go to that place to eat.
Lamb dip.
so it's like italian beef sandwich
🤔
No, they don’t put that pickled vegetable crap on there!
Grew up going there and last two times I went, was very dry and not as near as good as previous decades!
Nope I’m calling the pork dip with American cheese #1
Nice
El algoritmo pdj me recomendo esta porqueria
Taste good but got smaller and expensive
Was honestly disappointed in this place. Overpriced and way overhyped, it’s honestly just a tourist trap tbh. Way better sandwich spots in LA
Most overrated sandwich in LA! Cole’s is so much better!

Same with In &Out worst hamburger
@@irene1655you two should open up your own restaurants. Yeah right. 😂🤣

You should call your Chanel the can't open my eyes food guys.
Once you have asian you don't want to go back to Caucasian 🇦🇺 💯 😒 🙂 🙃 😴 🇦🇺 ❤❤❤😂😂❤😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He picked up the dropped bread from the ground and used it to
Love the place but think it’s overpriced for the teeny tiny sandwich they sell.

The workers here don't wear gloves, eww!?
I wont mine flame grilled in Hollywood hills
It prolly burned down.
it's not near any fires, it's close to downtown.
I prefer Coles, which also claims to have invented the French dip.
