    I've been on Saxenda for about 6 months and I've lost 39 Lbs! I found that raising the dose every 3-4 weeks instead of every week has worked much better for me. Raising the does after only a week made me super nauseous and gave me bad stomach cramps. When stretching it out It's only mild symptoms after I raise the dose.

    I wonder if more people discontinued Saxenda ended up switching due to it being a once a week shot vs. daily and not because of side effects at all.

    Hi from Australia . Not able to get ozempic because it's been held for diabetics only. OK diabetes is a serious condition so is obesity so can't get it. Just like to point out that diabetics as stated in literature by doctors can access literally 11 other drugs to manage their condition. Those who are obese can now only access one injectable which is double the cost . I don't want anyones health to suffer but I am really really salty on being priced gouged. It's not safe or fair.

    On saxenda almost two months- no side effects. Actually, I’ve notice if I overeat I’ll have throwing up feeling only that. Lost 11 kilograms. My doctor wants to put me on Ozempic after 3 months but there is a shortage of this medicine in the whole world so we’ll see next month- maybe I’ll be lucky to get Ozempic as I need to lose 10 more kilograms. The only downside of Saxenda here in Dubai is the price of the medicine. Crazy expensive

    Hello! Great video! I'm just starting my journey. I've been "keto" since 2014 and went off the rails last fall and gained 50lbs. My husband passed in December 2023 after a 3 year battle with cancer and I just didn't give a crap and carbed out. Doc prescribed Zepbound but Prior Auth wouldn't go through because of the shortage. She then prescribed Phentermine and said even if I take it once and find I can't tolerate it, that's enough for them to approve Saxenda. So that's the plan. I took Phentermine yesterday and was bouncing off the walls. I plan on calling Monday and asking for Saxenda. I'm a teacher and off for the summer so the once daily injection will be easier to do and I can do it when I wake up which is more like 9 or 10am in the summer. By the fall when school starts again, the shortage is predicted to be over so I'm hoping to switch to Zepbound or Wegovy then so I can do just the once a week dose on a weekend and not have to do it at 6am every morning before work. I'm glad you said that starting with Saxenda and then switching is what you do with a lot of patients so this sounds like a plan! I purposely waited until summer due to the expected side effects and of course now insurance won't approve it. Hopefully in the fall, supply won't be an issue. Thanks for all of your wonderful info!

    Excellent presentation! I've been on Saxenda for 8 months and have found that after slowly titrating up I'm just now reaching the 3 unit per dose injection! Yes, it took all of 8 months due to side effects and I was told just to titrate as often as I was comfortable. However, I've also found the initial weight loss has really slowed down and I'd like to see if I can get moving in the right direction again. I've been slowly gaining during the last 3 months. I feel that I'm eating too many carbs (I crave carbs and often 'think' that eating carbs will help with the slight nausea and uneasy tummy feeling). It seems to and I lean toward carbs for that reason...and most likely that's caused my weight gain? At any rate, I've listened to your encouraging words about eating more protein and will give that a try. I was wondering if should ask my doctor if I can switch to Wygovy or if after finally titrating up to the 3 unit dose should I stick with Saxenda for a while longer to see if I can turn things around? And yes, I'm one of those people who has been fighting with my weight for over 50 years, yo-yoing up/down 40-50 pounds several times in my life. I lost 60 pounds ten years ago and have been slowly gaining it back - at this point maintaining a 35 pound weight loss is a struggle. I'd like to maintain at least a 50 pound weight loss for the rest of my life. Thank you for sharing all this excellent information for a long-misunderstood and often overlooked chronic disease.

    I could also see though that if someone on Saxenda is seeing that 6% average weight loss, for someone weighing ~200lb, that’s an average of about 12lb weight loss. I on a normal day will fluctuate about 5lb between food and water consuming, so 12lb total over months likely wouldn’t feel like much movement to me.
    Of course 12 down is a benefit, but it’s not enough to get someone to their weight goals if they’re obese. So if it were me, I might not be willing to tolerate the side effects if I’m not getting to my goals and not seeing much change.
    On a Wegovy type though, that same ~200lb person is losing an average of 30lb, considerably more loss, in a similar amount of time. It’s easier to tolerate when you’re seeing the visible changes.
    There’s no way to prove NN didn’t have any shenanigans, but I can empathize with the trial participants and feel like the dropout rates make sense.

    I only need to lose around 10 kg so last year I used Saxenda for about two months (in February 2023) and had lost about 6kg. I than stopped due to the shortages. This year January 2024, I had put all that weight back on plus 3kgs more than my normal weight.
    So I started on Wegovy lowest dose, it is February now and Iam suppose to start the 1mg per week, I had spent £600 on Wegovy so far and I have only lost 1kg.
    I think what’s happening is that Saxenda helps you lose weight quicker hence much cheaper compared to Wegovy where you spend hundreds of pounds on titration lower doses before you even get to the therapeutic dose of 2.4mg. I think people drop out quicker on Saxenda because you lose weight quicker and than you stop due to finance. However you can’t drop out on Wegovy quickly because you don’t see the same quick results of Saxenda, hence once you start on Wegovy, you have to continue to higher doses to even see a result in the first place hence you’re tied in financially otherwise you end up quitting before the 2.4mg and wasting all the money you have already spent on Wegovy. 😢

    So, if Wegovy is 2.4mg paw… and Saxenda is 3mg per day (= 21mg per week), Does that mean Wegovy, being just over 1/10 of the weekly dose of Saxenda, is less expensive? Somehow I doubt that the pharmaceutical company would be pushing a cheaper alternative.

    • @theofficialdrdan
      @theofficialdrdan  2 роки тому +3

      No unfortunately that is not quite how it works. They aren't equivalent on a mg per mg basis. Wegovy is more potent mg per mg compared to Saxenda. The mg amount is not how the price is calculated on these meds in terms of comparison. However, cost of Wegovy at 2.4mg once weekly will be = cost of Saxenda at 3mg once daily.

    Hi Dr. Dan
    I tried GLP from a local weight loss center near me. I have strange issues. I could tolerate the nausea but I couldn’t handle the crazy heavy periods (to which getting off caused 2 periods a month for months til I went on a progesterone cream to re regulate my hormones) and horrendous 3 day migraines. I suffer from migraines so I assume this didn’t help me at all when the side effects said it could cause light headaches. Nothing is a light headache for me. Anyway, I went off after three months. And I only lost 3lbs. The doctor at this center said he had never heard of any of my side effects except maybe from 2 of his receptionists who had heavier periods. Do you think that saxenda would be better to start on if I decide to go back on this? Wegovy is not available at my doctors yet. It’s on back order.
    Thanks
    Bee

    It sucks that because Wegovy is new its not coverd under my extended health plan. Stupid . They'd rather people be on all the other meds associated with being overweight than help people lose weight. 🙄 I'm on saxenda fully covered but Wegovy isn't. Ugh!
    Edit* I've been on saxenda over 2 years .. lost 25 lbs at the start ... nothing since . So just stopped saxenda.

    Hi Dr. Dan,
    I am 40, obese, pre-diabetic and have HBP and hypothyroidism. I take Ozempic to help manage the hunger and my binge eating disorder.
    If Ozempic stimulates insulin secritation in the presence of glucose - does it help to increase insulin sensitivity, or the other way around - encourages insulin resistance ( in brain, muscle or liver).
    I do need to lose weight but wouldn't Ozempic make my insulin resistance even worse ?
    Thank you

    • @theofficialdrdan
      @theofficialdrdan  2 роки тому +2

      Nope. This is a rhetoric from the Low Carb zealots that is factually incorrect. While high insulin levels might have some very small role in insulin resistance there is a lot more complex underlying mechanisms that we haven't fully teased out that ultimately drive insulin resistance. Ie. genetics, liver fat etc.

    Took one week of .24mg wegovy and was horribly nauseous. I stopped because the following week was a very crucial busy week for me at work and I could not afford to be so sick again. I’m ready to take the second dose after a week off and I’m terrified because I was unbelievably nauseous even when taking Zofran. It got to the point I had to put a patch behind my ear to function. Will this eventually pass because it’s hard to take or should I be trying a different medication?

    Btw Ozempic 2.0 approved in US, Canada, EU, Switzerland.
    Why 2.0?😀 I’m not protesting but it’s getting kind of confusing with Wegovy and Ozempic. My dad is already on Ozempic 1.0 so I hope it’s in stock soon and his diabetologist prescribes it. Also seems like a big jump 1.0➡️2.0.

    • @theofficialdrdan
      @theofficialdrdan  2 роки тому +1

      Yes I just saw that. I don't think Canada has quite yet approved 2mg once weekly but will soon. I believe it is because they saw additional benefit in terms of blood sugar lowering. I will have to review the literature.

      @@theofficialdrdan Yeah, still funny though. Current recommendations say it’s best to treat prediabetes/diabetes with fat loss and maintenance early after the diagnosis - so while I understand they monitor HbA1c etc., the goal seems to be almost the same for people with obesity and diabetes. The 15% weight loss often leads to diabetes remission.

    • @theofficialdrdan

      @@ondrej1893 In general yes. It is interesting as the 2 go hand in hand with each other. We can't conclusively say where the fat caused the diabetes or vice versa. Essentially the treatment of both and 'metabolic syndrome' in general is the same process.

    It's interesting that Wegovy causes more GI symptoms than Saxenda. I actually stopped taking Saxenda because it never stopped making me sick. I'm finding the opposite on Ozempic so far. Maybe a good potential warning for Wegovy and the higher doses. Another great video!

    Hi Dr. Dan. I’m a new subscriber. I really appreciate your videos and how knowledgeable you are. I’ve been feeling discouraged because I’ve been on Wegovy for five months now and it seems like I’ve hit a wall. I was doing well at first, losing 25 pounds. Then I started having weeks where I’d gain weight, then lose the next, then gain again. I can’t seem to get past that 25 pounds. I can’t find a rhyme or reason. It seems like the weeks I work out the most, I tend to stay the same or gain. I watched the video you just did about the drug stalling, and I’m going to incorporate more protein in my diet to see if that works. Thank you and if you have any other advice or words of wisdom, I’ll take it.
