    1️⃣ How to stream / route midi or audio between Logic Pro for iPad and AUM (or others DAWS / host apps) in real time with minimal latency. Note that although here I am using it to send audio from Logic to AUM, you could equally use this to send audio or midi from AUM or another host to Logic. This means you can use, for example IAA apps in Logic!
    2️⃣ Why I generally prefer AUM but am excited to be able to use these together
    3️⃣ Why I finally decided to subscribe to Logic Pro after initially cancelling my subscription, and why I am not as impressed with Logic iPad 1.0 as I hoped I would be

    🟢 About Sonobus:
    I mentioned Sonobus as a potential free solution to streaming audio in the vid, and that it didn't work for me in Logic. Just now I got this back from the dev, so looks like it might be worth trying:
    Thanks, its working OK for me (SonoBus inserted on the main Stereo Out track), but I had to start the Logic transport once before it activated the plugin for some reason. After that it seemed to be "alive", even when the transport wasn't on. However, on my 2020 iPad Pro the audio sent from the iPad to the remote is glitchy unless I make Logic Pro use 512 sample buffer size. This isn't an issue with the standalone or with AUM as host.

    I sit in the corner and am fascinated by Logic Pro but love Kymatica AUM. Logic is a good alternative for finishing music as I often find myself in and just grooving without finishing. I find.Cubase's interface less work-friendly and watch with excitement on what Kymatica does in the future in terms of updates for a loyal user who wants to complete songs
    A more complete timeline assembling tracks…you get the point😅

Push, Dub, Space look like killer FX’s too. So whoever wins a giveaway will end up with great apps no matter what they chose, all of them are 5star for a reason, but PeakQ should be the first choice if you don’t have an eq

    I use Logic Pro on my Mac and AUM on my iPad and kind of view them as two more or less completely different things. Logic for linear recording perhaps, although I use tons of loops to build up compositions, and AUM for performing, although I use tons of Atom Piano Roll 2 loops to build up compositions. So because Logic was my primary Mac environment, it was kind of a no-brainer for me to get it on the iPad. And that in no way is going to diminish my use of AUM, but the round-trip capabilities will let me work on things when I don't have my laptop. Will totally (continue to) use both Logic and AUM though.

    • @GavinskisTutorials
      @GavinskisTutorials  Рік тому

      The only problem with round trip is that I hear the AUv3 apps that also have Mac equivalents don't actually work for round trip for some reason, is that correct?

    • @boxoftextures
      @boxoftextures Рік тому

      @@GavinskisTutorials Well, yes and no. When I first switched to Logic several years ago I immediately disliked the way it wanted you to save your AUv3 patches in Logic and not in the apps themselves. That was a total pain because that meant that a great patch I made in my iPad was sometimes difficult or impossible to transfer over to my Mac, or vice versa. But turns out they did it that way on purpose knowing there'd be Logic on the iPad some years in the future. And that's where we are today. So, if you save your presets in your AUv3 app yes, you may have problems. But if you save them in Logic instead it works great. (When looking at a plug-in editor tile, tap the three dots in the upper right and tap Save As…) If you save your patches in Logic this way they'll round-trip just fine.

    • @GavinskisTutorials
      @GavinskisTutorials  Рік тому

    I have yet to see any videos of anyone actually recording audio into Logic for iPad using the KQ Loopback. I asked the developer in the comments of one of his videos if it were possible. He replied that it was not and that I should seek a refund. He even added the disclaimer that is does not record. So far I'm seeing mixed messages about whether this can be used to record IAA instruments from AUM into Logic. I have been able to get it to connect and can record MIDI as well as hear the audio and see it on the level meters but it does not record. One commenter says that the hosts have to be loaded in a certain order but did not specify what the correct order is. It is really a shame that Apple removed IAA from Logic for iPad. It still remains in GarageBand which is curious.

    • @GavinskisTutorials
      @GavinskisTutorials  Рік тому

      Interesting - I think he mentions on the AppStore description, or at least did somewhere, that record may not work. In that case your best bet would just be to record in AUM and export stems to Logic. But yeah, annoying that IAA is not supported. Also annoying that Logic does not allow you to view more than one AU window at a time - in that sense, IAA would fit in very well lol

I use AUM quite exclusively and even when I leave, I come back for workflow and convenience. With that said, I historically tried to use 4 pockets multi track recorder, within AUM, but I found that it lacks integrity in longer recordings. Are there any other options for vocals that is similar to the aforementioned?

    • @GavinskisTutorials

      No idea to be honest as I don't work with vocals. For recording, aum inbuilt recorder is 32 bit float so that's not an issue. For editing I'm not sure. A lot of people fear matrixes especially! You get used to them, but yes, routing in Logic, whether modo5or audio is not as intuitive or flexible as in aum, arguably

    I love the Sculpture UI on iPad. Very clear and everything laid out without unnecessary hiding or menu diving. It’s weird to me to compare Logic to AUM. To me they’re apples and oranges. I find Logic perfect for me, but it won’t be replacing my AUM use-cases. If you don’t have the use-case that Logic addresses, then no surprise it isn’t for you. I do find it annoying, though, that any DAW has built-in plug-ins. Sculpture (and the other Logic plug-ins) should be made AUv3. And the same for other DAWs. We shouldn’t need workarounds to mix and match.

      All true! Though we disagree on the sculpture UI. I'm glad they redesigned it but I think it could be so much better!

    Hey man! Interestig development :) I don't suppose you tried doing it the other way 'round, did ya?
    I didn't re-sub to Logic for 2 main reasons. Firstly, having it on desktop makes the mobile version a harder sell for someone like me, who tends to be at home most of the time anyway. But the bigger frustration was not being able to use IAA with it. If I could use AUM or BM3 to route audio into Logic, it might tip the balance.
    Cheers for the video :}

      @@GavinskisTutorials Therein lies the kicker, I guess. Presumably the streaming audio that had been streamed directly from AUM to LOGIC could be adjusted on LP's timeline. But then there's going to be too much latency in the first place to record a live part, unless exporting a quick bounce from Logic to AUM...which completely circumvents the need. Seems an unnecessary expenditure just to have to avoid bouncing a part from AUM and importing it to LP ;)
      Think I'll see if Sonobus gets updated, and try with that.
      Cheers :)

      Well I tried just now using ruismaker from aum to logic and the timing was good, not sure why the latency is terrible when using the lumbeats drummer

    • @el-bov8034
      @el-bov8034 Рік тому

      @@GavinskisTutorials Curious, indeed! but there's still latency going to AUM, right? The ultimate for me (and others, I'm sure) would be to able to have Logic routed to AUM and back again, so that IAA apps could be played and recorded into LP on-the-fly.
      But I wonder if that's even necessary. Perhaps all that's needed is for LP and AUM to be sync'd via LINK to provide timing and audio cues. Then just record ThumbJam, for instance, into a looper etc and import that file back into LP? (Forgive my newb-ish ignorance. I've never used Link).

    • @GavinskisTutorials
      @GavinskisTutorials  Рік тому

      Absolutely! Then just load Loopback In as an fx after your first aum audio, then load Loopback Out as an instrument in Logic 🔥. So now you can use your IAA apps, for example, directly in Logic

    How many streams of audio can you send via loopback?

    • @GavinskisTutorials
      @GavinskisTutorials  Рік тому +1

      There are 4 loopback in instances and 4 out. If you wanted to send multiple audio sources, for example, via one instance, you would simply need to route those several instruments to a bus, add 1 instance of Loopback In in the FX slot, then open a corresponding Loopback Out instance in the host app you want to send the audio to
