    Excellent video. I am not a big fan of Apple, but the synths you can get on an ipad are quite decent and the connectivity is truly simple.

    Thank you so much for this tutorial video. It gives me so much insight. I'm just the biginner trying to learn how to connect and play with midi keyboard. Recently I bought Panda 61 key midi Keyboard and I have no idea how to connect it and what type of connector is needed to plug in in my Ipad. Now I have learned from this video, I will try and see and if it doesn't work I'll let you know. Thank you onceagain.

    Worth noting that the iPad Air series does not work like this. They do not provide enough power so one will need a powered USB hub or the connector with USB to Lightening AND with Lightening In (for external power to the connector).

      Michael Schollert Hi, I now use an AIR 2 and still use the same Midi controllers, I do not own a powered hub, so it does work like this

    • @skroll71
      @skroll71 7 років тому +1

      Weird... I read it would not work with the Lightning to USB and a non-powered keyboard on the Air series. Tried it myself yesterday with GarageBand on my Air 2 with a cheap non-powered USB midi keyboard to no avail.
      But then again; I am new to Apple and I might do something wrong.
      I am waiting for my proper midi cable to connect the Yamaha DTX M12 as that does not work with the USB camera connector either.

    Hi, Doug. I have witnessed a very interesting phenomenon when I connected my keyboard to the iPad via the CCK today. First, although keyboard is supplied with power by an external source, I still got the pop up screen which said that "device requires too much power" (keyboard is Nektar Panorama P6). Second, what I did was that I connected it through USB hub, which wasn't even powered, and it worked! What the hell is going on?

    Great and helpful video! I've got an Ipad air and I want to use it with my band. I want to buy a medium size controller ( max 49 keys). One I like very much is Alesis VI49, but Alesis support can't tell me if I could use it with the ipad! On the other hand, I like Novation Launchkey, and someone recomended me the Roland A300 pro. This one i s perfect for the size, but I prefer to have 16 pads and Alesis Keys look better. Any advice about what to choose? The main intention is simple chords and melodies, and launch effects from it.
    I know for sure I will need teh camera connectiion kit. But should I get more gear with these controllers? Is it mandatory to get out the sound from the headphones output? Is the quality good enough?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    For the first 5 minutes or so, the person called the controllers MIDI controllers. They are NOT MIDI, they are USB. He finally got around to talking about connecting a true MIDI keyboard to an iPad.

    • @TheSoundTestRoom
      @TheSoundTestRoom  8 років тому +2

      This is "The Person" it's called USB Core Midi, it is midi , what else is it, things advance, we aren't in the 80's any more, and trust me I wish we were, so do any computers have midi in/thru/out anymore..nope..they have USB Ports...ALL the Korg Micro MIDI controllers are only USB Midi, also Roland, Yamaha etc..etc...so if you choose to reply please let the viewers know what it is exactly....if it's not MIDI, which in essence is a Musical Instrument Digital Interface...it doesn't have to have a particular type of connection for it to be a MIDI interface....Google USB Midi...

    Thanks for the information! Just thought I would add that if you have a newer Casio keyboard, you have to got to Settings, then Local and turn the Local setting off.

    • @TheSoundTestRoom
      @TheSoundTestRoom  8 років тому

      You have to do that with ALL the keyboards that have their own sound generation, here's a really cool tip though, if you just turn the volume down on the keyboard your using then you won't need to turn LOCAL off, if you just want to use the keyboard to control the iPad or VST, also this is nice if you want to blend the sound of both the hardware synth/keyboard with the iPad synth or VST, just use the volume on the master keyboard to get a nice mix for both, although that of course needs the output of the master keyboard to be routed somewhere, that's why you hear no sound from the Korg Microstation or the Akai synth I use in the video, although LOCAL is still on inside the settings because I don't have the audio output routed anywhere you won't hear any sound so no need to turn LOCAL off, good tip though and thanks for posting, cheers

      The sound is all recorded via a Behringer 18/32FX mixer going into a Tascam DP008 recorder. No FX or EQ is added to the sound of the apps, so you hear what it's really like, then it's all synced to the video.
