Why Is Battlefield 1 SO AWESOME?!

- Battlefield 1 is an interesting specimen in the modern era of gaming. A time period no triple A developer had dared to go, a premise some would say is foolish, and the brand of one of the biggest First-Person Shooters ever. So how did it turn out? Well, let's find out....

I remember playing Gallipoli as Ottomans and desperately defending the final objective for 10+ minutes straight. Squads and Squad leaders were literally shouting orders over voice chat while entire swathes of brits were being gunned down by that one dude in the static MG. It was one of the best MP games I ever played.
The multiplayer is still like this, man. Tons of players and very fun
@@BananaPhoPhilly just found my way back and its crazy how much fun it still is
I had so many memorable moments myself. I remember the last sector of the Alp map where the defensive team have that crazy strong base at the end. It was nuts because we were on the ground trying to push through the main wall of that base, but had constant machine gun fire around us with fighter biplanes overhead, but this tank came out of nowhere from our team and started to suppress the fire for us to jump the wall and take the main courtyard. We ran past him and his team for the building and the underground tunnels just to see the tank get blasted to pieces by the biplane's bombs. Just a crazy scenario to see and I have so many other moments like that such as storming the beaches, pushing with four other squads through the trenches of the green hilly map, or ambushing enemies in the forest map.
I was the medic class and I had to revive a lot of people including squad mates whiles being theres gunfire and grenades being tossed at me and still remember that
Bro that exactly how it happened with me
As an Australian I found it really awesome to see Gallipoli represented from Australian perspectives. So often we see English, American, Russian etc in video games, but rarely Aussies, especially something as important to us as the Gallipoli campaign. It means a lot to us.

I like to imagine that the italian mission is so ridiculous because of how its a story the main character’s telling his daughter. That’s why every time she gets scared he tells her about his impenetrable armor
It was actually slightly accurate. The Italians did attempt to have soldiers covered in thick metal to then charge and gain ground. While the overall design was different (I’ve never seen images like the one portrayed in the game) there are real photos of soldiers having armor in WW1.

I think WW1 really lends itself well to Battlefield.
WW1 was known for how it turned small villages and luscious fields into empty lifeless no-mans-land.
Battlefield with its destructible environment reflects that perfectly.
I've had operations on St.Quentin Scar, in which most of the village and the windmills were reduced to piles of rubble. All the bombs, shells and explosives had torn craters into the earth.
One more thing that sets the Battlefield franchise apart is the gameplay with vehicles.
In WW1, each side fielded new vehicles to give them the edge and break the stalemate.
You can really get a feel for that when you have been struggling to take an objective but then a tank shows up to lead the attack.
Often you'll see people running behind the tank to use it as cover.
Some of the tanks have surplus seats, so they can act as a mobile spawn point for the entire team. That way, a single tank can create a new frontline.
One thing that is unique to BF1 is how it treats the conflict.
BF1 doesn't just put you in a battle on some imaginary map and says "have fun". The game tells you what lead to this battle, why it is important, how the people fighting in it thought and how its outcome changed the course of history.
It this context that makes your actions feel so important.
We need a COD WAW like game in WW1
Spot on. The game is not historically accurate per se but it is accurate to concepts that shaped WW1. Another example is Beyond The Marne. The French has access to shit tons of tanks in that operation, which is based on a battle that's famous for the use of tanks. While the tanks the French team may be using in the game may not be accurate, it really gives the feeling of how tanks played a huge role in that battle.
Well everything you said is on the mark about but however Bad Company 2 had more destructability
I felt like watching this again. Btw the Italian story is an actual story😭😭 it’s over the top, but it’s a good representation of how in ww1 and 2 there was very little stop time. You never stopped fighting and even when you did, you where just waiting for the enemies turn
Bf1 wasn't historically accurate but it was historically immersive, bfv does not do either
WindWaker 5000 couldn’t have said it better myself.
@SwaggySloths YT Atm yes, they will eventually be DLC. The game has been out for four months though and not a single DLC pack has dropped.
Except the Last Tiger DLC that felt immersive.
Matt N well duh it’s live service lmao
If by historically immersive you mean horses literally being stronger than Tanks, MP18's being common service weapons and Landships moving like Panzer II's, then yeah I would agree.

in the war stories, i didn't need a bunch of time to grow with the characters. i was able to tell the devastation, the hurt, the anguish, just by the atmosphere and character portrayal. the war stories show the brutality and unforgiving nature of war, such as the desperate hope of the tank captain in Through Mud and Blood as he blows the lines of Bess, or the anger of Clyde Blackburn as he struggles with indecision in No Mans Land. i found myself almost tearing up in The Runner when Bishop meets his end. hes happy to pass the torch, accepting of his successor and his fate. he knows its the end, yet he still smiles in the face of certain death because he knows he did what he could. battlefield one had, what is in my opinion, the best take of singleplayer campaign in any battlefield game. not because of gameplay or story, but because of the themes, the emotions, the characters, the quotes, and so much more. not to mention one of the greatest opening scenes in gaming history.
i know this is a wall of text, but i mean it when i say that battlefield one is that game that you can go back and say, "yeah, i remember that. i played that."
I honestly I really like it when fights become slow or even grind to a halt because it reminds me of the actual irl battles, you had a strong fast attacks that slowly ground to a halt and become slow, like having to clear out or defend trench systems. It balances out the combat
I love that when an operation stagnates at one point, the area gets progressively more war torn. Like, after 30 mins on one checkpoint, the ground is riddled with explosion holes, and all of the structures in the area have collapsed.

Battlefield 3: Best Maps
Battlefield 4: Best Gameplay/customization
Battlefield 1: Best Atmosphere.
straight truth right here
I completely fucking agree
Fuck yeah
BF4 was the last Battlefield game that actually felt like a Battlefield game.
Bf4 isn’t accurate. Bf4 had the MOST customization, not the best. That’s not a good thing, considering there were many attachments that all functioned the same, but just looked different. Just put the best looking attachments with each weapon and cut out all the junk. It also heavily relied upon lootboxes instead of a progression system for the customizables, so that’s a negative. BF3 or bad company 1/2 could also hold the gameplay title as well.
2022, still the best shooter out there in my humble opinion.

I really like history and games and I understand that you don't want it to be too realistic or historical to make the game still fun
Exactly. I don’t think enough people understand that if this game were realistic, it would literally just be one side camping the whole time with mostly scout class weapons while the other just get their asses beat.
Maybe after a few hours, or days, or weeks the the roles would switch up.
There’d be basically little to no vehicles (especially if you were on the Central Powers’ side). And the ones you do have would probably die of engine failure in the middle of no man’s land.
And, if it were realistic, the majority of the gameplay wouldn’t be spent fighting. You’d get to repair trenches, hide in dugouts for several hours at a time from artillery barrages or spend several hours loading artillery, be on guard duty, execute dying horses, spend several hours stealing food from nearby towns because your rations haven’t arrived yet, and best of all, maintaining the local latrines!
I can understand why there are usually no campaigns about Germans or Japanese in WWII games, however in a game set in WWI, I was actually hoping that we might get something from the Central Powers POV as well.
I really feel that was a missed opportunity.

Battlefield 1 was the internet’s prayer. We were fed up with COD being futuristic, especially with Infinite Warfare releasing that same year. Part of the reason BF1 did do well tho was how badly IW did
Doi Doi That was the reason I got BF1. I had bf3 and 4 but didn’t exactly play them a lot. After waiting forever for a good cod game I decided fuck it I’m buying battlefield. BF1 is one of if not my favourite game of all time. But this goes both ways as I assume a lot of battlefield players like me have switched to cod because of the disaster of BF5.
Ben Forster still not playing modern warfare camp fest of a game it’s horrible. Just kept playing the older battlefields and rainbow.
Jerome Schlinger i haven’t experienced as much camping in ground war, at least not anymore. I don’t play any cod traditional modes because as you said it is most definitely a camp fest.
Ben Forster ya I agree warzone at to bad but the base game was one of the biggest waste of 60 bucks. The only good thing about the game was the campaign. I tried ground war and was the worst experience ever everybody camps on the roofs with one shoot snipers without bullet drop. then after a week I went back to battlefield
Jerome Schlinger well I’m not gonna lie and say that I didn’t feel the same way at some point. I did the least ideal action and decided to try to adapt the way I play. I don’t know if there are still campers on roofs as much anymore because I have played the maps enough that I know how to avoid them anyways. However even in ground war you don’t get the same feeling of all out war than in battlefield. The environment in battlefield 1 is unbeatable and ground war is most definitely cod just on a bigger map. Battlefield has an amazing talent of making you feel like your in a movie. However ground war doesn’t capture that same feeling however personally I find it fun anyways.
When you were talking about how the defence is stronger on some maps, I just had to think back on how I was part of a desperate defence on conquer hell. We were down to the last sector and the enemy still had a lot of reserves and all 3 battalions. But against all odds and with constantly shifting battle lines, we held the line for ze glory of ze kaiser! Anyway, wanted to share that.
Every once and a while I go back to that game, just to play the campaigns.

One does not simply discover gun Jesus.
I knowwww I started motioning the cross after I saw him.

Battlefield V (Child of pregnant smoker)
Battlefield: 2042 (Abortion)
The pregnant smoker being EA and the child being DICE.
The best part is that Battlefield V isn't even a part of the family
this would imply even hardline is better than battlefield 5.
Lets not get ridiculous.
Jebus it’s not ridiculous, hardline is soooooo much better
Jebus according to the www, Hardline sold more than BFV on launch
Act Man. Best videos ever. I've found myself listening to your videos lately during my commute. You sir, are the best on UA-cam.
verdun is what got me into battlefield as the trench warfare and old weapons aspect was really a really new experience compared to the other fps games where everyone had a full auto gun

Honestly adding experimental and weapons we know existed with a single photo is really awesome seeing how ww1 could have been which I think is cool some guns I never knew existed I had no idea sub machine guns originated from the trenches but makes sense
Fun fact: Every codex were written by the channel "The Great War".
Really? I didn’t know that. I love that channel.
Thats great info lol, have about 1k hours of bf1 never knew this. God bless Indie

Great video. I think this game has brought a lot of awareness to this part of history.
In terms of gameplay, one thing I love is that each class feels overpowered in the right situation.
Battlefield 1 and 5 are my favorites, this is mostly due to the opening scenes on the story. The stories are the best parts, and the weapons are Soo cool to use due the realism in it. The sounds in the background and the visuals are insane and I love them, the maps are insane too, there then best games in my opinion. Also, WW1 is one of my favorite events because there was not one bad guy side like WW2, because if anything, both side were the bad guys, it was literally Imperialism vs Imperialism
This just shows how far they fell off in 2042
Lol the beginning scene reminds me of an Angry Joe introduction.
The Act Man has actually said a while back that he has been inspired by Angry Joe
Except it didn't drag on for too long
lol ikr
Sort of a rip off
I was gonna say the same thing xD
We got a 'why Republic commando deserved a sequel' but where's our *WHY Star wars republic commando was so good*

Eh, kinda the same thing
30:32 personally my favorite moments are when both teams are fighting tooth and nail to win the game and in those moments even if my team loses the offensive or defense im still left with that rush of achievement knowing both sides gave it their all.
I don’t think enough people understand that if this game were realistic, it would literally just be one side camping the whole time with mostly scout class weapons while the other just get their asses beat.
Maybe after a few hours, or days, or weeks the roles would switch up.
The war stories in this game genuinely made me emotional sometimes and I’m not ashamed to admit that
Gamers Home definitely. Bf1 had a legendary soundtrack

because it is truly the best of the best battlefield game ea have ever made. Bf4 is fun and all, but its not as good as bf1.
Because it's a MASTERPIECE...
Its on sale on steam i think.
Your lucky.
I actually bought it at GameStop for 99 cents no cap

Excellent review
I like to think for Avanti that since it's being retold by the guy to his daughter as a story, he made himself out to be much tougher plus the armor as to reassure his daughter that he wasn't close to dying but in reality was.
It's obviously propaganda. Italy wasn't that good in ww1... *12 battles of the isonzo for example*

I think an underrated factor of the game is the music. So badass.
I still remember in 2016 when I was 15 I was giddy as a school girl to open the game and play it on Christmas. Will never forget that memory.
Same thing but I was 14.
I remember my buddy had just turned 21 (I had in February) and we had gotten a pack of Guinness to split on launch day in celebration of his birthday and BF1. Damn that makes me feel old.
