when they were cleaning the pistons there were two jz(the artist) printed and taped into the engine bay, either it was just a funny reference for a video or reel or theyre actually using the 2jz

For what its worth, I suggest checking cyl 6 piston to make sure the top ring groove is not pinched closed and the top ring is still free. The piston material is hot while running especially with boost and where the valve damaged the piston is on top of the ring groove. If the ring groove is closed and pinching the top ring you will have low compression and the motor will smoke & breathe
I absolutely love when Brian comes over haha. "Did a compression test.... Didn't go so well" just the way he says it is jokes. Sorry for the hurt motor though, always sucks when stuff craps the bed.
You guys should build a multi engine stand. You don't have many different engines so it wouldn't be to hard to fab up a stand that will have adjustable engine mounts and a tail end to hold the transmission. You would be able to roll it around, and also it you set up it with wiring you could test run them before install
JIMMY!!! Please do a build of a 5.3 or 6.0. Im assuming youd go aluminum block because of the weight but it would still be dramatically cheaper than an actual ls and can make big power. Ive also seen some very reliable turbo charged 4.8 liters. The benefit of the 4.8 is shorter stroke which means they handle high rpm better

Also it's not surprising it dropped a valve since you are revving the s50 stock head to 8k rpm. Theres a reason why every aftermarket tune for the m5x family only rev the motor to 7k.
@@JimmyOakes You keeping the S50 in there? A NV head might be tricky to find bigger cams for. I’d just keep vanos and run a 264 and 256 cam with all the other fun stuff. I believe if you go bigger with the cams you have to shim the vanos to limit it.

Go LS Adams got a fully built stroker motor and doesn’t like the regular 3.0 and a full team to keep it going. get a crate 525hp 6.2 and put a blower on it

go to Lowe's and get some rubber pipe caps in the sizes of your radiator outlets and water pumps. Any time you pull a rad or engine pop it on and you'll never dump coolant on your floor again!

Need some 272 schrick non-vanos cams. Use the front engine covers from a 1991 thru 1992 non-vanos M50s. Factory Non-vanos M50 cam gears are adjustable.
I remember a friends mini had a 1330 bottom end with a stage 4 rally spec head back in 2000 and that dropped a valve and went through the piston as it was at 7k rpm and the standard engine was redlined at 6k, but no limiter and even mine would rev to 6500 and his had a hotter cam.
Ls swap it 6.2 n twin turbo do the jimmy “O” engine bay fitment n rear mounted radiator make room for inner cooler upgrade the rack put a nice steering pump on the LS be easy as chop the front end off spoon will tube it more race car more room for suspension improvements bigger tires tub, the rear end for bigger tires move rear shock inward with cantilever suspension be a sick build
Why change engine? A M50 with cast iron block is the best :) Buy a crank from a m52b28 and 135mm rods and good pistons you can easy have 600-800 whp :D

Careful reusing that piston. Make sure it's polished smooth. Any imperfections risk hotspots and detonation on that area. We know how that ends with boosted engines. Looking good tho. Put the s50 from the E36 in your E46 shell you got for your big comp car along with your coupe and put a V8 in your E36 to be different and be like Brian

my question is, can you clock the vanos to the cam to where it will work for a turbo engine? im sure you could ( depending on the spline interface like if it is keyed) id say its worth a research. why deck the head and block ? you didnt overheat it, it wasnt leaking .. no need to. just make sure piston doesnt have sharp edges that could promote detonation/hot spot

Send it, piston looks fine just a little sanding. I was going to say maybe it pinched a ring land but I think it's far enough away from the edge to be fine. I had one hit the very edge and actually crack the piston so this looks tits.
Build the S50, Dont JZ or LS Swap it. OBD1 S50s are bullet proof if built right, they can handle up to 800-900 ish horsepower which is most likely more than this chassis will ever see.

Or just standard 3.0 with a g35-900 instead of a g35-1050. That’s why adams e36 was slow compared to before. Had to big of a turbo for a 3.0

The piston that hit the valve is absolutely fine, coming from someone who has had a couple turbo m20/m50's steamroll valvetrains
Non Vanos m50's heads have dual valve springs and are typically used in higher revving m5X builds. Might be something to look into :))

I have a budget built m50, bottom end is stroaked to a 2.8L and a 2.5L head. all m52 internals. It’s perfect for boost. Non vanos is the move

AlienEngineering has adjustable cam blocks you can use to fix your mid range power loss if you decide to keep this motor.

Jimmy, you've been stating you don't care for having the LS in the red 300Z. Use that LS in the BMW and put the S50 in the Z.
Put racing valve springs, valves and retainers and cams. Rev it higher and put a 100 shot of nitrous on it

S52 cams. Titanium retainers and good springs. All you need in that head. Don’t waste your time with stock springs

Do upgraded double springs, single springs on vanos m50/52 s50 are very soft, it is risky to spin it over 6500 rpm
