- Riding Wolverine, one of Sentiers Du Moulin's most technical double black diamond downhill trail. This trail has 4 Pro Line features, which are Rated harder than a double black. Wolverine is located on the Maelstrom side of a with Rock Slabs, Skinnies, Drops, and Technical descents, this trail has it all!
Sentiers du Moulin is located just outside Quebec city. The Builders of the SDM bike Park have been developing some of the most impressive enduro and downhill mountain bike trails in North America. This place flies way under the radar outside of the area, but we'll be hearing more about it in the years to come.

_"As long as you don't crash, you're fine."_ A Phil Kmetz Autobiography.
As long as you stay on the trail it’s not dangerous
It's his Phil-osophy
The hardest part of the pro line is getting to the pro line.
i better be seeing that video on your channel soon 😆
Man, I just love how quiet your bike is! No chain slap, no internal cables flapping away (my biggest issue), and no angry bee rear hub! Just the sound of the tires on the dirt and sometimes the suspension doing its thing. Love it!
He shortly explained what he has done about the inner cables. Not sure which vid this was but was something about using foam i think
I enjoy the hub sound, but I've also noticed how much quieter its been since he rigged his cables ... Hopefully GT saw and will fix going forward, especially since it's a cheap expense.
@@GoobyGobe It was his last video from 6 days ago (mini Whistler in Quebec). Hailey was actually the one who diagnosed it if I recall correctly.
You have a good memory, She pointed it out when we rode killington. :)
@@topspot4834 iknew it was a recent one thanks for pointing it out!
I wish more UA-camrs would show Mountain biking in all of its forms, like this. Mountain Biking is not only about sending it on the biggest gap Jumps. Thanks Phil for my favorite vid of the week.
Hailey's progression the last 2 years is really impressive!
Her jumping has really impressed me. I would rather see someone hit smaller jumps with goof control than see people hucking big jumps with no control. I see plenty of people who fall into the latter and it scares me. This year something has clicked and Hailey is jumping with way more control than I've ever seen her. It's great to see
Phil building a bike park? hell yeah! I'll be here for it when it happens no matter how far out it may be!
He loves that blend of flow and tech, so it'll be sick ... And you know grip strips will be on every wooden feature 💯✌️
"won't be soon, but eventually probably do something"
Lol sounds like it is a ways off
Always a great vid Phil I went from scared to hit drops to now doing blacks and doing gap jumps and big drops you’ve help so much over the last year
That's awesome man! Keep pushing yourself safely!
I had the biggest smile watching the beautifully made trails and you killing that tech!
Phil, I just want to say thank you, you got me into this sport and I love it so much ;)
Amazing how many people he inspired to ride ... I was in the hospital for almost a month when I found his channel. Didn't even know bike parks existed, so binged Phil, Seth and Nate Hills. Didn't know if I was gonna make it outta that hospital alive, but if I did, I knew I wanted to get into riding ASAP.
Now I'm at a bike park pretty much every week (mostly Thunder, Killington and Mountain Creek).
Awesome! Thanks for posting this Phil and Haley.
This trail is EXACTLY the type of trail I love to ride, both up and down! It actually takes bike skill to ride the tech. I get so tired of riders just bombing easier downhills on UA-cam! This is what mountain bike riding is all about, Phil!! Great video, Phil!
Thanks Randy. They have access to some really cool terrain here. There's another trail called Magneto which is a bit slower but more technical especially if you take all the extra credit line.
ua-cam.com/video/_jDLYPxEjG0/v-deo.html
“That sounded expensive” 😂 been there! Great video Phil. These trails look incredible!
LOVED the new edits and extra effort put into tell us where you are and what trails your going on! keep up the good work and ride safe!
One man's rad is another man's hell. Great job Mr Skills.
Been watching you for a few weeks now and you've got me back into biking. Went out and bought a 2019 Norco storm 4 and ive been loving every minute of it. Thanks for your awesome videos Phil, love every single one of them
This episode was so sick, I’ve never seen trails quite like those! That being said, I’ll leave that technical mess to you and Hailey - I’d be over the bars and off the trail in the first few feet of some of that chunk! Great riding!
This by far one of THE coolest places you have been too! Great vid as always!
Hell yeah, Phil. Awesome riding as always.
''how many signs do you need'' HAHA loved that. Welcome to Quebec, where we need to be extra carefull about eveything concerning mountain bike and where everyone seems to deresponsibilize themselves! Sick video as always Phil! Wolverine is one of my favorite trails in QC!!
Oh Boy great to see some content still coming through man, Hope the wrist is feeling better :)
Wow what a wicked trails!! Very nice use of wood bridges and rock slabs. Love it thanks for sharing. Great video as always and brilliant riding from you and Hayley 🤙
👁️ That did look like a very interesting climb, slabby! Plush trail looks insane. Great work guys. ! 👍👍👍
Again, very cool video ✌
Great as always, making days better when a new video is up :D Keep it up man 🔥👌👍🔥
Man what a trail you have in there. Beautiful! Love the climb! More videos man. Thanks
Amazing trail building there!
Trust that I love watching you rip down and continue to be amazed at how you see the lines, but damn you can ride some tech up. Track standing with the pogo stick was awesome. Thanks for inspiring.
Awesome trails and vid...as always.
Sick video like always!
With all the stones, rocks and ledges, thot you were back in New England again... But Quebec, CA is right next door..👍Good riding and you all stay safe..
Awesome videos Phil. Finally pushed me to get back into it myself.
Would be awesome to see you down in New Zealand one day
Trails looks amazing!
More awesome content thanks Phil!
Thanks Zach, Glad you liked it :)
Nothing like a challenging tech climb, because you did it backwards. Respect for that trials hopping at the end. On an enduro no less.
It is a challenging trail but just not as much as if you do it backwards! 😂
Man this trail looks like so much fun. Some of it I probably wouldn’t be able to do at my skill level but I love the slab rock everywhere and the technical aspect of it so much. I’m living vicariously through all of you UA-camrs at the moment cause I am injured and trying to recover so no riding for me 😕
Wolverine is a bit hard for me too but it's one of the tougher over there...there's a lot of easier trails that this, with rock and slab, that are super fun! ;)
This was fantastic 👍🏽👍🏽
Phil with the wise words of wisdom. That's one chunky trail!
I would have gotten soo lost...lol...nice work you two!
Those trails Look Sick🤘
That is definitely a unique trail for sure
14:30 - Phil's got his Canadian greetings *mastered*
Cool video Phil 🤘🔥
Love that you're in my area 😀
This trail looks absolutely amazing and I won't touch it in 100 years cuz I'd break every bone in my body. But you killed it! Crazy good riding.
Great to include interaction with some fans.
That's part of the fun of riding; running into people from different areas hearing their stories. Mountain bikers are a cool bunch!
This place looks awesome!!
Nice meeting you at SDM Phil!! Such a surprise to run into you there.
Likewise man! I still can feel the humidity from that weekend when I rewatch the video.
Awesome cool epik trail 🤘🤘👍❤
Another new video? Your on a roll with your upload schedule! Keep it up
Been doing one a week for the past year with a few exceptions :)
@@SkillsWithPhil I didn’t realize that, it must be hard to keep that schedule up. Keep it up! Also how’s your wrist feeling?
Wow, Phil's in our neck of the woods!!
We know Phil shreds - fast, but how awesome was it to watch the tech skills? So good...
Like that you have your wife in the videos more. My husband is trying to get me to do more riding, it’s nice to see other couples out there. Hope to see her on more! 🙏🤘
Wow .... Wolverine ... best looking eBike trail I've seen. Perfect for the job
EDIT : and the second trail 😅
These are some of the best trails I’ve ever seen
I'm with you Phil..I really enjoy the technical climbing and technical downhill enduro type stuff but not a huge fan of the radio required to get there. 🤒
Great video.
Awesome Bro:)
"I'm not in it for the exercise"- - - You got a darn good workout regardless lol.
being totally disabled at 45 and being stuck inside these make me still tinker with bikes . keep up the great work !!
Become a bike shop mechanic! (If you aren't)
It'll totally allow you to still be in the workings of the bike world :)
Phil the colour grading is amazing in this video
I don't have to do much when the colors pop themselves!
15:06 If you want to go down this, do slab city! It's basically like klondike but downhill with some b-lines at a couple places. Sweet video! Awesome to see you shred Quebec, the trails are really good.
I was thinking that while editing the video actually!
Love Phil and Hailey's secret handshake
Hey phil I am a new viewer. I am from denmark and I really like you videos. I am starting to get into moutain biking but I don't know where to start considering we don't really have designated tracks is there any tips you have for people just starting out.
Have someone show you around North Shore of Boston sometime for that kind of granite slab tech. LOVE that stuff. Sadly, I don’t live there anymore.
Nice to see Hailey is surprising you with her abilities.
Man that is some awesome terrain, waaaay above my pay grade though
Nice one Phil! Now you have to come back to try Granitosaur, Velociraptor and Magneto. At E47 put Descente du Coude, Nosferatu, Pad Religion and Haute-Valkyrie on your itinerary
Granitosaur and Slab city are in the next video :) We weren't planning on riding another day at SDM but we had so much fun that we had to come back.
@@SkillsWithPhil Sentiers is amazing ... Never been to Whistler/BC, but at least from Killington to Kanuga, and everything in between, there's nothing like it.
SDM is awesome but Nosferatu should definitely be your next stop at E47. Best new track in the region this year in my opinion and taste! About the same length as the kingkong but steeper and 30ish + gaps and drops! Really nice build!
Yeah E47 is in general an easier place than Sentier du Moulin but now they have some big trails...Nosferatu would have been perfect for Phil, big drops, jumps and gaps! I don't know if he went but I don't think so... Hope I'm wrong! :P
Bro did an entire double black backwards. Thats insane
@Skills With Phil Another great video in an awesome park. You should check out the fast growing Wheelerville Trail System in Coroga Lake NY. Amazing downhill trails with a little bit of everything. Fun/easy climbing trails and close enough to stop by the old forge area while you are here.
So much moisture there, how grippy was the dirt, HERO DIRT? great video!!!
The rock was grippier than the dirt! Most of the dirt was dark organic dirt that can be pretty slippery!
_"As long as you don't crash, you're fine."_ Sounds like my wife. 🤣
Since youre in quebec. You should make a trip to bromont. Idk if you ever went there. Its amazing. 2h30 from quebec
Welcome to Canada!
Best trail in Quebec! Sentiers du Moulin ❤
Mantap kawan
I've been doing the Wolverine dozens of time and it's crazy to see you gap some of theses things. Hailey did great too, not an easy one no nails first time
Wolverine was really freaking cool. I'd like to go back and try it without stopping now that i know it better. Oddly enough i kind of enjoyed the climb out and back to haute maelstrom almost more. That stuff was super fun and different.
What other trails besides Sdm and bromont would you recommend i check out in Quebec if i had back? I have wolf park, e47, VBN and le massif on my radar at some point
@@SkillsWithPhil
-Massif only existed for the past two years, super fast and flowy intermediate mountain with a little bit of black diamond only...But the view is amazing
-E47 is very progressive, some black like the Pad Religion are great as well as some of the double black like the Descente du Coude and Nosferatu
-VBN is more of an adventure place, the Boréal + Légende lap makes you ride in a river with an amazing view on the valley. The Neilson Est, North, South is probably the greatest journey in all Quebec, 32km with some of the best panorama when riding a couples kms next to the Neilson River. Got a big jumpline named Godzilla too
-Wolf Bike Park is a small place with big jumps for people to learn and progress, you can spend a couples hours there but there's only a few lines so it's a bit harder to justify a full day there
Don't want to promote my own stuff but I have videos of most of the trails I just talked filmed on the channel if you want a quick idea, keep it up Phil
@@FreerideQuebec I was actually going through your videos! It's hard to get a lay of the land without sometimes experiencing a place. In Vermont everybody loves to talk about the kingdom trails, but as a vermonter I rarely go there. Nosfaratu was mentioned by another commenter so that's on my bucket list, but you confirmed my thoughts about wolf bike park being a bit small. I'm going to have to reference your comment, because it was super helpful!
@@SkillsWithPhil My pleasure mate, you might want to consider MSA too. It is known for the world cup DH track but there is some slow tech nasty double black diamond such as the 1837, Tak-tak and Chomeuse comparable to the LB2 at Sentiers du Moulin that are a must for any skilled rider. Everything can by ridden on an enduro bike
@@SkillsWithPhil Another vote for MSA ! I'd say go through Tordue, 1837, Chomeuse then World Cup, in order. I think it would give you a pretty good idea of the place ! Also as good as you are on your Force, you *might* want to try to secure a DH bike to ride there, its pretty legit ! Its plenty rideable with a big enduro but hey :P
Great video as usual mate 👍, I love that you and Hailey ride together and have heaps of fun 🤩 ! I recently got my wife hooked on MTB riding and is fantastic for a relationship when you can do something fun together 😎🤟
Keep up the awsome work ! Cheers 🍻
Hailey and I met through mountain biking. It’s pretty special to be able to share passion with your significant other. :)
I am genuinely impressed with that high line you hit.
I bet that puts a lot of scratches on inside fork stanchions.
Scratches the lowers a bit but not as bad as it sounded haha
@@SkillsWithPhil Meh... sharpie FTW
Those bridges give me the willies.
"As long as you don't crash your fine" - Phil 2022
I suck at rock gardens....
This looks very beautifull, i'd love trail running this, but on my rigid mtb it would kill me
i got nervous watching you on the rocks and skinnies!
I wish i went tuesday to meet you. I'm riding there next tuesday. I live an hour away, towards Trois-Rivieres. If you have a chance to explore, check out Mont SM near Shawinigan. It's a super well built park, about 1.5 hour from SDM. Enjoy your stay in Québec.
That place is like a Squamish of the east, holy rock slabs.
WOOHOO!
what gears do these guys stay in just a low one?
Hey Phil, I just recently found your channel and I was wondering what a good relatively cheap mountain bike for a begginer wanting to get into riding more would be. I’m only 14 so I don’t have a whole lot of money but I have Christmas and a birthday and want to bike more with a better bike because mine is pretty heavy. Also, I was wondering what I should know about biking before I try to get into it. Thanks in advance.
you got hops on those stone structures.
Did you guys ride empire 47 while you were there
We rode there before the race and it was super fun
We did not, but I want to make it out there next time I'm in the area.
That’s a shame there’s two pro lines that were just built. I took a huge spill and got a concussion so wasn’t able to finish, you guys will definitely have to go back for another trip. I live in new York and I’m shocked at how close it is and how amazing the riding is
Hi phil i leave to the Quebec and i like a mont. It is bromont a really good montain for DH
I've raced the quebec cup there many years ago. Very cool place indeed
Nice riding! If you want to ride something like the Klondike climb but better (aka downhill!), you have to try Slab City. 😉
I have one more video comming. We wanted to try and do Slab city this ride, but given how humid it was that day, our energy levels were low by that point. We ended up staying another day just to ride Slab city and I'm glad we did :)
@@SkillsWithPhil Not difficult. Just unique and fun to ride ! Always cool to see your videos.
@@SkillsWithPhil 🙌🙌
Hey Phil, I assume you are still using the Onyx Vesper rear hub? Just wondering if you experience a lot of pedal kickback in the rough stuff since it is an instant engagement design. I have wanted to go with a silent instant hub, but the thought (and sometimes talked about) chance of pedal kickback has me hesitant... I remember riding an old Jamis Bam years ago that a buddy had, and it suffered really bad from pedal kickback in rock gardens and even when landing jumps to flat....It was a very unsettling feeling :/ Thanks for your help :)
Yes i am but no , at least not in a way that's anymore noticeable than other setups I've ridden.
some of those slabs on the climb looked perfect in place, was that concrete mix or just granite?
That's bedrock dude
Seeing that Haly is with you, how about shots of her riding these features. She must have pretty good skills herself.
The tricky part about making youtube videos is that people are impatient and won't hesitate to click onto another video. I try to find the balance between giving context to the ride, and moving the story along.
Phil can climb like a boss
*in very short bursts 😁
What a rock solid brave girl! Lock this one down!
Youve gotta have comfy shoes man but great job
Pro Line looks more like Jittery Chattery, once you go at low speed, you get a lot of jaults, when you are doing mach1 like pros you just skimm the tops.
Love the vids. I'm a little surprised how often (it seems) that Phil has to tighten his thru-axles. Is this due to how tech and steep the riding is - higher disc brake ejection forces and more vibration/flex in frame/fork. I'm a much tamer (less skilled/more chicken) XC guy who likes some tech so I don't know how common it is to need to tighten wheels mid-ride. I'm also riding on QR wheels and don't have thru-axles. Thoughts?
When traveling I take my front wheel off to fit it in the car. Sometimes I don't snug the axle down quite enough and it loosens up enough. Since I always carry a multitool it's not an issue.
Makes sense. Thank you and keep up the good work.@@SkillsWithPhil
Do you still prefer 27.5 or are you riding a 29er now?
