I still can't do pushups and the like because bending my wrist in that position is super painful, but it looks like I'll be able to start doing a little riding. I should say, I don't want to slide out and land on my wrist again, so I won't be pushing it too hard. It's feeling good but still a bit weak.
The seemingly innocuous little falls often end up being the ones we regret the most. ...I broke 2 ribs with the last such - washed out on a turn, landed on some seemingly soft grass... 🤷🏻♂️
One thing that people don't talk about enough is Phil's brake control. Even in the wet there is minimal tire skids. Something not a lot of riders have but a very very crucial skill to have.
I said it when I was there, and I'll say it again. Quebec and specifically SDM have some of the best trails in North America. I rode in Quebec for 4 days and never rode a bad trail. It was incredible.
Haha, that was not intentional, and I wouldn't recommend. I thought there was going to be more of a landing down there. Thank goodness they added some concrete at the bottom to make it more gradual. You guys have some amazing stuff popping up in Quebec, SDM is one of my favorite places; definitely doing things the right way.
The speed you ride (almost blind cause I’m sure you didn’t remember much from your last visit) in sloppy conditions like this is really something… can’t wait for your next video. Every trail on Maelstrom has something special. Yes we’re spoiled in Quebec City!
The rock on the sharp right turn on King Kong is always slippery, even when dry. You just skid your back wheel into the little catch berm and you are good to go. Good job on dropping the super G slab, it's a pretty high one!
Phil! You are an absolute beast, an awesome rider and my BikeHero. Nothing else. I know these trails like the bottom of my pockets and my heart almost stopped when I see you going in the stepdown of the KingKong when you was riding SuperG. The best-best-best trail to do under rain or after rain at SDM is Wolverine. A ton of grip because it is always granite. There is only a very few spot with root or less grip, otherwise you can go all in... except the 4th proline, the bridge will be very slippery, PLEASE slow down all you can, we all want to have new content in the future. Please slow down. Make sure to hit Magneto, you can hit it on your right when you finish the Klondike climb trail. Then you do Velociraptor (take the left inside when you gonna see a "catching net". Make sure to hit HauteMalestrom, then Maelstrom. You can live without doing the Vortex, but it is still a nice trail. Granitosaure is full of roots everywhere, sketchy stuff but you will manage :) Pretty stoke to see you ride our stuff again. Peace!!!

In the last 10 years, east of Quebec City has become a east coast MTB mecca 5 to 6 new trail systems 45 to an hour drive of Mount Saint Anne. Also southern Quebec and North of Montreal is also building a very impressive MTB resume.
Yeah, For the longest time the only places i heard much about were bromont, MSA, and tremblant. I did a hockey camp and quebec when i was still a bmxer and my host family's son mtb'd. I'd be lying if that didnt make me want to look into mountain biking more seriously!

Back in the 70s i had a schwinn orange crate... tore it apart, put different bars, a coaster brake rear wheel, tires, BMX seat and got a number plate to enter the first BMX race in our County. I rode skate bords for a few years after that but then they invented mountain bikes. I never looked back, i'm 60 now and i've developed 'issues' that keep me off my bike so i'm pretty limited to lift assisted parks, i cant huck big drops or shred or rail like i used too. Here's my warning to all you beautiful mountain bikers out there.... While you're young, get a light XC bike and go see shit and meet people that you'll never forget, ever.
I personally find that Quebec is largely overlooked in the mainstream MTB world, But much like BC the environment has a little bit of everything to offer. I recommend anyone thinking about visiting Quebec for the biking should do so 100%. Just don't drive into downtown Montreal! lol
I definitely agree with that. I think the partial language barrier could be responsible, but I don't think that's enough. I think the "shore" has a bit of lore to it and the fact that whistler is out there makes BC the defacto MTB capital no matter how hard Bentonville tries lol. If people can only make one trip, they're likely going to go to BC.
I know you are strong, skilled & achieved mtbiker, but seeing you riding our trails, just making that more obvious & impressive. Did you knew you can shred SuperG (and some other of our trails) over several feets of snow ❄️ in winter? We're grooming those with snowmobiles for FATbike season from December to April. But even with fresh new snow, I'm more gentle on my snowmobile speed than you, when doing the SuperG's slab 😉
I wanted to talk about it too! haha I'm not sure but I think I already saw Phil fatbiking.... he would have to come when its the best condition (I do the mtl-quebec trip mainly at the end of winter when I know the snow is perfect, nearly a bit icy) but when it is, OMG it is so much fun!!!!! Fatduro like we say! E47 also have some nice trails but for me, SDM is still the best! All those big berms in fatbike, woww!! I can't wait to go back, not this summer/fall, but this winter!!! :D

Since you mentioned getting rid of the bottle and cable rattle noise... I don't know if you picked it up but I kept hearing a buzzing sound underneath your voice and the sounds of your bike bouncing around. It sounds like something is rubbing on your tire. Not terribly distracting as I watched you seemingly ride large jumps/gaps/drops blind. Great footage.

Quebec is not on the east coast but central Canada ( Quebec and Ontario). . The St Lawrence river gets as wide as 300 km ( 180 miles) but it is still the river not the atlantic ocean. East coast provinces are : Nova-Scotia, New Brunswick, New Foundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island . Alberta is located on the prairies not the west coast. BC is the only west coast province.
Yes, you are technically correct but this is all semantics. In the US vermont doesn't touch the coast, nor does Pennsylvania or Washington DC, but those all considered east coast. Considering provincial Quebec extends farther east than any of those states and touches the water mass on the eastern side of the continent, saying Quebec is east coast isn't really a huge stretch. In every day most people will largely understand even though thats technically not correct.
Yo Phil, your footage looks so sick as always! I cant help but wonder how you get your gopro footage look so good in lowlight. Mine (even though i watched multiple videos on this) have way too much motion blur or image noise depending on my settings... yours just look in-cre-di-ble. If you (or anyone else) could help me out there i would be more than thankful... My responsible settings: ISO-min - ISO-max: 100 - 800 fps: 24 Shutterspeed: 1/96 (bcs 48 has way too much blur) Does someone have any ideas?
Put your iso max up to 1600, this will help for image noise and blur and also stabilization. I record at 2.7k, 30 fps, superwide, stabilisation on and it is crystal clear. Also setting your lightning not automatic helps when your going in and out the woods.

Good to hear nothing is broke! I broke 2 bones in my hand June 20th at Blue Mountain in Pa. My first ride back was last weekend ☹️.

I'm surprised how well you're sticking to that wet rock. What tires are you using, and what sort of PSI?
I think i was running 23psi in front and 25psi in the rear.

It's honestly a great place for an ebike, but you will enjoy it either way. I did 3 days in a row and was absolutely wiped by my last day.

I’m thinking about getting a dh bike next year and I’m look for some suggestions, not just from Phil but some other people.
Don't get the new Scott Gambler they crack like crazy, I would say Santa Cruz V10, Commencal Supreme, YT Tues, Canyon Sender and Devinci Wilson.

Quebec is not on the east coast but central Canada ( Quebec and Ontario). . The St Lawrence river gets as wide as 300 km ( 180 miles) but it is still the river not the atlantic ocean. East coast provinces are : Nova-Scotia, New Brunswick, New Foundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island . Alberta is located on the prairies not the west coast. BC is the only west coast province.
Yes, you are technically correct but this is all semantics. In the US vermont doesn't touch the coast, nor does Pennsylvania or Washington DC, but those all considered east coast. Considering provincial Quebec extends farther east than any of those states and touches the water mass on the eastern side of the continent, saying Quebec is east coast isn't really a huge stretch. In every day most people will largely understand even though thats technically not correct.

I cant help but wonder how you get your gopro footage look so good in lowlight. Mine (even though i watched multiple videos on this) have way too much motion blur or image noise depending on my settings... yours just look in-cre-di-ble.
If you (or anyone else) could help me out there i would be more than thankful...
My responsible settings:
ISO-min - ISO-max: 100 - 800
fps: 24
Shutterspeed: 1/96 (bcs 48 has way too much blur)
Does someone have any ideas?
Put your iso max up to 1600, this will help for image noise and blur and also stabilization. I record at 2.7k, 30 fps, superwide, stabilisation on and it is crystal clear. Also setting your lightning not automatic helps when your going in and out the woods.
