right it wasn't even dirty and he worried bout the viewers Lmao.. dude is insane and soo soo talented.. just rides everything and so well... i wish i started riding young man... started at 45 but still having time of my life...
Phil, I've ridden Bolton on a wet day before and I am completely amazed at how well you rode in these conditions. Video does not do justice to how intimidating/challenging/dangerous this terrain is in wet conditions. I'm often impressed by your 'skills' and ability to glide over technical terrain, but your balance and touch in these conditions on this mountain is at another level! Thanks for showing us what's possible.
Bolton can make me feel like a complete beginner at times. I've left that places feeling completely defeated several times. But when you are "on", it's also the most fun kind of riding. I do look forward to having a few trails where i can turn off my brain and just cruise down. I can't wait to see what's in store for 2022.
@@SkillsWithPhil makes me feel better hearing you say that. I rode on a wet day in July, probably wasn't at my best, went down twice before noon and from there my confidence was shot. On a dry day, when one is riding well, it has some of the best natural terrain NE has to offer. Can't wait until they get some of those new trails completed. The new blue/black jump line looks like a blast -- even in wet!
rode Bolton twice this summer and managed to snap a brake lever one day and my ring finger the other. and that was when it was relatively dry. Phil you are on fire
right ... pretty amazing stuff. overal hes one of the best ive seen on utube... which is saying alot!!!! and he is one of THE NICEST guys out there...feel lucky to get to watch these vids and learn stuff!!!! THANX phil
I can proudly say I would definitely be able to do this trail with ease (even while it's wet)! As long as I’m walking. Slowly. Very slowly. With a full suit of armor. With my someone helping me and guiding me. Under those conditions, I might do just fine!... As long as I don't get lost. Though there's a very slim chance of me *not* getting lost.
I tense up while watching this trying my best not to fall out of my bed lol. The fish eye perspective and trails gives a very cool experience. I'm not even into this sport and enjoy this video.
It´s amazing and impressive to see your wife riding such trails with you, this is really another level and she´s keeping it up with you guys. Unbelievable.
I could never do this...I can barely ride a normal bike on a normal, flat road in ideal conditions...but I do love watching the people who can. I absolutely love seeing the skill and passion people have for their different interests. Also love that you kept pausing to chat with the kids who were also doing that run.
Woah, major respect to just Phil and people that do that, an accident at that speed will not just have a bruise. Amazing just watching how fast you can fly down this mountain!!
ITS FINALLY HERE!!! The BV Bike park day video! Took some pretty legit self control to not run out and ask you when a video was coming this summer. In classic fashion, an absolute mudder of a day. In Classic Phil fashion, you sent every drop and made it all look so buttery. Get that board waxed and ready...Winters Coming.
Technically I missed vtfr!! I was waiting for the leaves to fall so that the woods wouldn't looks so dark! I played around with the camera mid summer up there and the darkness of the woods makes for really awkward video conditions. I was also secretly hoping for a dry day which was a rarity this season 😂
Hey All it's been about a year since I made this video but they've made a lot of changed to this bike park since. Here's what it looks like in the dry! ua-cam.com/video/m4p2A8foKn8/v-deo.html
I never noticed that rock as a landing on Double Down... probably because I cant reach it haha - great riding with you, shoulda come back on Sunday, it was cold.. i mean fun!! ;)
@@SkillsWithPhil hey Phil, you’ve probably been asked this a million times so apologies. But how did you work your way up to large jumps? What’s the best way to start without breaking my body in half?
I just stumbled upon the video simply from the youtube algorithm, and I was transfixed the entire time just watching the technicality and precision of this artform that I have no knowledge of. Incredible
@Skills With Phil - Great video today. I live about 25 minutes from Bolton so it is cool to see a video on local trails. You make these very difficult trails look easy. Love the vids so keep them coming and thanks for representing Vermont Mountain Biking is such a positive way!!
Every time I watch an SWP video, I tell myself "I can do that easily" Then I get myself all hyped up and go to the top of a double black and decide I want to live instead. Nice video man, keep it up.
in extremely wet conditions as shown here, I am truly amazed that you were able to not lose traction while going down those rocks and over those roots. My hardtail would have slid out under me within the first minute of riding lol
Mountain bike parks have changed drastically in the past 15 years, but the terrain that bolton has is always super unique. Also the view from the top when it's not cloudy is amongst the best in the state.
The amount of knowledge I got regarding the chairlift blew my mind! Thank you for that, I will use this information as a conversation starter in the future.
Place looks so gnarly for a mere mortal such as myself. Chuckled when you mentioned that you were not attacking the mountain as you bash through sketchy roots😁
I love when you talk about detachable chairlifts and speed regulations (ANSI Codes) and why the chair has to run slower since its not detachable and servicing pedestrians.
I don't know how you guys ride that terrain especially downhill and so fast that's really crazy when the guys do it on those super narrow paths so high. I normally don't like you bikers being in street traffic but I give you guys much props for stuff like this.
I have never rode trails on a bike before, but this makes it look so fun! However, I do realize how quickly I'd get myself killed or serioulsy hurt if I ever tried anything like this, so i calmly enjoy this while coding at work. :D
Yeah it's probably the only drop I've ever done where you're relieved when you actually get up to it. Entrance is gnarly ... Smooth landing though. Look forward to next year there.
totally wrecked in the same spot at the bottom of boulder gap. so relieved/proud to have made it there, and then right down on the rock and into the mud.
So I just was Introduced to this sport very recently and was not only intrigued but blown away by your technical effectiveness on a bike. I mean hell I can’t even wheelie hardly. Anyway so this was only about the third video I’ve seen, 1st of yours and I live right next to Bolton mountain. It literally made my head explode when u mentioned that spot
Here's one the best video that shows how the clamping mechanism works on high-speed detachable chairs. ua-cam.com/video/OhutMYRKC1A/v-deo.html, I don't know if anybody cares, but I think this stuff is pretty neat. :)
Glad to hear Bolton Valley has a dope mtb trail system. Grew up skiing there as a kid and always wondered how bikers managed to ride so high up on those wooden features
Hay Phil. Just wanted to say your the one who go me into MTB. I watched your video and fell in love ❤. Glad to see you doing to well. Keep doing great. Your inspiration is awesome 🤩
Crazy you mentioned getting a bad concussion. I’m currently nursing a bad one myself, had brain swelling and still trying to get rid of the spins when I lay down. But it’s comin along. Your vids are gnarly bro! Great at keeping my mind off this injury. Thx Phil!🤟🏼
Just went last Friday (closing weekend) w/ mtbtravelreview. Super wet. Super Bolton 😁. I love to see the improvements to make the mountain more approachable but not much can beat the raw tech this place has.
I remember that first trail from my first DH race 17 years ago. It hasn't changed much, a few new smooth corners that look fun. Great to see Bolton back in the mix of bike parks!
Trails are insane!!! Wish it was as easy as you make it look!! You must come around to Cape Town one day. We also have some nice trail networks here. Keep up the awesome content. Love your vids.
I agree. They are putting in a lot of work and the owners are passionate riders themselves. The terrain they have to work with is actually quite challenging, but it also makes for some crazy unique terrain. I can't wait to see what it looks like in 5 years.
My kind words to you are, I hope you have a great chiropractor, and an excellent orthopedist. Kudos for what you do, I could never, but all I can think about right now is the stress you are putting on your body. With much respect, I hope you are able to walk pain free when you’re my age.🎉😊
Damn man, that's sick. I can't wait until I save enough to buy a canyon torque 5. That dude who stole my last bike doesnt know how much I loved that bike.
Phil I am so jealous. You are so good at ridding it just makes me want to try the jumps but I'd land on my face and break my jaw or crack my skull. Not to mention those GT bikes are flipping awesome!
How are you able to not fall like 100 times, this video really impressed me. Even considering the weather conditions, you are an absolute mauntain bike legend my dude
Classic Phil. Casually one-handed cleaning GoPro mid-air on a jump.
At first, I thought it was an exaggregation from you, but then I watched the whole video! 🤯

@Repent and believe in Jesus Christ who asked like shut up bro
When Phil says a part of the trial is sketchy for him, at his skill level it means it’s terrifying for most of us. Great riding and video as usual.
I love how he’s just doing jumps, insane corners, treacherous trails, and yet keeps a calm conversation going with the camera

Great explanation of fix gripped and detachable cable cars I am proud of you
Phil’s channel is so sick. He makes it fell like you are riding with him. He is one of the people that gave me motivation to start my own channel.
Looking at this inspired me to quit biking... no way I will ever have the size of balls to go down that trial with that speed. RESPECT!
Wet riding is so enjoyable to watch! I think it’s the colour of the leaves that make it so good
That anyone can survive having this hobby for an extended period of time baffles me greatly xD It looks really fun though
That almost smooth slab rock before the drop is the actual stuff of nightmares. I'm more scare of those rocks in the wet than the drop.
Yeah it's probably the only drop I've ever done where you're relieved when you actually get up to it. Entrance is gnarly ... Smooth landing though. Look forward to next year there.
“Bridges scare me.”
Same, Phil. But everything else you rode? I have no words. 😳
the 19:51 midair gopro wipe was sick
Love the casual cleaning of the lens mid jump 😂 19:51
Bolton Valley is an awesome, old school, old time ski area.
The Mountain Park trail was eye-gapping with the fog and all. You ace it from my perspective!
Glad to hear you say you don't need the latest and greatest gear. I picked up an 2008 as my first bike and people are already talking crap about it.
In my area.....when the trails get that wet they are shut down. Good to see some inclement weather riding.
That was intense 😨
This gave me anxiety. My riding goes to pieces in the muck. I would have slide on every single rock. Mind blowing riding. Gnarly looking crash too!
I’ve got a great picture from the top of the lift looking out to lake Champlain and into New York at sun set. Great place!

Pretty cool, it’s basically like a clamp
Reminds me of how elevator systems operate. Super cool to watch it in action, thanks for sharing this! 🤘
Less maintenance downtime too since the chairs don't need to be repositioned every so often to prevent wear in the clamped spots
People who complain about the lift being to slow should ride all the hill up.
Dang dude! Imma be real. This actually made my night watching you! You’re freaking awesome!!!

With the trails all muddy, it sure is easy to rut them up. Brave man going down those rocks, they are slick as hell.
There's so many roots and rocks that ruts don't really develop like other places.
