Good video. Best approach is to compress the spring to make it easier to remove as you have done. The rear springs can be replaced by pushing down on the arms (either by foot or long pry bar), before doing this Audi advise to disconnect the ABS sensor plug and let this hang loose (located on the inside of the arm behind a plastic cover next to the brake hard line) otherwise you risk pulling the ABS cable and breaking the cable (giving you another problem to fix). The shock absorber bolts are one time "torque to yield" stretch bolts and should be replaced each time they are removed (top shock bolt is 60Nm and bottom is 110Nm which should be done when the TT is on the ground under load). It is far easier to remove and line-up the lower shock bolt if the anti-roll bar drop link is undone from the ARB and left hanging loose (use a spare car jack under the knuckle / trailing arm to lift and hold into position). The shock bolt then lines up very easily (preventing cross threading) and the anti-roll bar drop link bolt can then be re-inserted into the ARB (torque to 25Nm with 17MM spanner / socket each side). When installing the new spring there should be a rubber pad which sits on the top of the spring and in between the metal housing. The rubber pad is designed to prevent metal on metal creaking noises. The pads normally disintegrate over time.

I have to say it’s a lot easier than the front .

the vertical struts and longer springs are the non quattro models

You have a Quattro = stiffer and a lot lower rear springs+ axels not allowing the arm to be pushed down.

They are a pain those rear springs, hefty as well, just like van springs!
I know how hard it is to see when suspension is compressed when snapped right on the 'pig tail' 👍

Totally, well I got new ones now. I can’t really tell any difference in how the car drives to be honest. But as long as it passes the road test that’s all that matters

Did you use the same bolts? We are advised to replace them but at an additional £50+.....

It would make sense to replace but I reused them . ( I’m guessing your taking about the bolts that hold the bottom of the dampner to the lower control arm ? ) £25 a side sounds very expensive ..

@@stevenharpervw average £7.50 per bolt...so guess £30 for this job. Think i will re use as well...

@@schwantz037 how many bolts are you buying for 30 or 50 quid ? Is it the two that hold one the dampner or the small ones that hold on the dust shield.
Keep going with your project . Yes it looks bad with all the wheels and suspension removed but your doing great and keep working on your car . Just be careful with the headlight level sensor in one of the rear arms suspension , they are super easy to break

      I don’t know. I just bought standard suspension from a 225.
