“Title of Record” is top tier!
I am more excited than ever now to hear it!
Definitely their best!
It's just Title Of Record lmao
@@mollyesanbornI’m seeing Filter, Ministry, Rob Zombie, and Alice Cooper at Pine Knob on the 5th
@@PassionTheFruit idk what youre taking about…😏
The '90s were such a good time not only for Metal but for electronic music too, so when they got together you got cool results like this, NIN, Marilyn Manson and on the harsher side you got Godflesh and Killing Joke.
Yes I love the fusion of electronic and industrial! There's something so incredibly addictive and satisfying about the sound of this genre, or at least there is for me anyway.
The second effort of Filter also is worth a listen with elite production.
By the way filters singer Richard Patrick worked with Trent Reznor and “Nine Inch Nails” in the pretty hate machine days.
I'll definitely give Title Of Record a listen now, can't wait to hear it!
In the summer of 94 I'd go driving around with my friend each day because there was nothing else better to do (and gas was only $1.30) The soundtrack for our destinationless cruising was Filter's Short Bus followed by Nirvana's Incesticide. Each day, same albums, same roads. Bored teenage times that I wouldn't trade for anything.
Fun Facts: Filter's lead singer Richard Patrick (much younger brother of actor Robert Patrick best known as the T-1000 in Terminator 2) was a guitarist for Nine Inch Nails before forming Filter. Title of Record, Filter's second album is worth a listen too. And it almost goes without saying, but getting some Nine Inch Nails on the channel would be great. Pretty Hate Machine and The Downward Spiral are classic albums, especially when it comes to industrial rock.
Yeah this album is great! Glad you have a lot of fond memories attached to it. Someone else also mentioned that their lead singer was the guitarist for NIN early on, I wasn't aware of that. Nine Inch Nails is one of my favorite bands, I've heard their whole discography but will definitely consider doing some more content related to their stuff. I did a discography ranking and a review of Pretty Hate Machine a while back on my channel if you're interested, they're some of my first videos! :)
Check out the video of "Gave Up", recorded in '92, featuring both Richard Patrick and Marilyn Manson.
Album Request: Another Vision by Oktaf Kanis, thank you Molly 🙌🏻
Cool, that's our fav album 🔥
Great album 🖤
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'll make sure that it's on my list, thanks!
@@mollyesanbornthank you Molly! Now I'm waiting :)
Title of Record and The Amalgamut are two of the best albums of their era. Definitely follow up with some more filter.
molly you hit the nail on the head with the first song from filter...hey man nice shot is about R. Budd Dwyer and what happened to him on live tv. i can't go into specifics but read all about him. seriously that song is about him.
Thanks for letting me know!
He blew his head off live on tv after being accused of crimes he didn't commit.
@@mollyesanbornThe song “The World is Yours” by Faith No More includes audio of the Budd Dwyer “incident”
The best analysis of "Hey Man Nice Shot" I've ever heard. I love Filter's next album, Title of Record, but Short Bus is right in my wheelhouse. A great choice of album, and another truly wonderful review, Molly! You are my GOAT.
Thanks so much! Filter is great, I love their sound on these first two records. Industrial metal but there's an awesome clean sort of modern polish to it, almost futuristic sounding in a way. I look forward to hearing more of their music!
"Voicemail". Ha, that's an answering machine. It's what we had for leaving messages on landlines before cell phones. The early models of those from the 70s and 80s used interchangeable cassette tapes. The ones my parents had in the 90s were solid-state. Anyway, regarding Filter, I don't care for Title of Record, but I like The Amalgamut and I love this album. Take Another is probably my favorite track off of it. Filter's one of the 3 "F"s that were in regular rotation on my first CD player in 1996. The others were Foo Fighters and Failure.
Oops, thanks for correcting me! 😂 I'll have to give some of Filter's other albums a listen now. They've got a great sound on this record.
As someone mentioned in the comments the singer and musical mastermind of Filter, Richard Patrick, played guitar for Nine Inch Nails before he started his own band. I think you can hear the NIN influence on this album. There are videos on youtube where NIN and Richard Patrick performed "Hey Man, Nice Shot" last year. Personally, I would be excited to see a reaction to their second album "Title of Record" which I think is better than their debut.
Yeah I can definitely hear the NIN influence with the sound on this record. I'll definitely be checking out Title Of Record now too, really looking forward to hearing more from Filter.
Molly, nice pick. This album and band was one of my like top 3 favorites of the 90's. Good reaction too❤
Filter is actually dropping a new album this week. Short Bus is a great album. You definitely gotta check out their next album Title Of Record.
It'd be really interesting to hear their new release and compare it to Short Bus (a nearly 30 year gap between the two). And I'll definitely do a reaction for Title Of Record as well, really excited to hear it!
Great reaction!! Even though they had some mega hits, Filter is so underrated! If you get a chance, please check out "Title of Record". It's their best album IMO
Yeah I had never heard of Filter until they were suggested by some of you in the comments. So glad I've finally given them a listen, they've got such a great sound. I'll definitely plan on a reaction to Title Of Record as well.
Also, the singer is the evil Terminator from Terminator 2’s brother. Neat trivia.
Seen them live two times! After these shows my back had been hurting for a month at least. I was jumping the whole concert both times. 🌀🌀🌀🤘🤘🤘😂😂😂
Filter is one of my favorite bands in the 90s
I still think Title of Record is a way underrated album of the time. So many great tracks. You should check it out too!
I will definitely be giving Title Of Record a listen too! Can't wait to hear it :)
I remember i was listening to this album unstoppably 🤩
Man, this brings back memories. Haven't revisited this album in a long time. Very cool.
You hooked me with your review of this album, but you earned me subbing because of your review of Ministry
Filter and Ministry are both such great bands, I'll definitely plan on doing more of their albums here on the channel. Thanks for the sub :)
Filters "Title of Record" is a personal favorite of mine.
I cannot wait to hear it!
Filter also released a few songs for some movie soundtracks that are definitely work checking out. Most notably the song "Jurassitol" from The Crow:City of Angels soundtrack and the song "Trip Like I Do" from the Spawn soundtrack, the movies are kinda meh IMO, but the soundtracks are pretty darn good!
Thanks for letting me know, I'll have to check both of those tracks out!
Fun fact, the singer was nine inch nails guitarist from 1987 to 1993. His nickname was always "piggy". The song Piggy by nine inch nails on 1994s Downward Spiral is about him yet not really dissing him but seems to be blended with another story underneath the surface.
But in reference to Richard Patrick of Filter the lyrics "my little piggy needed something new" is just fantastic.
Nine inch nails more recent live show had him on stage to sing. Trent on guitar, they played "Hey Man Nice Shot" as he sang. That hit me pretty deep. Trent can reconcile and reconnect with anyone from his past except for the monster he discovered and produced for. That being Marilyn Manson
This is one of my favorite albums from the 90s without a doubt. But "Consider This" is a song that will always find a way onto playlists for me. Something strange special about that song...
I feel that, Hey Man Nice Shot was the standout for me at first (I love how heavy that chorus goes) but there's a really solemn eeriness to the tone of Consider This that sticks with me as well. Great track!
Oh hell yeah. Saw them live on their Title Of Record tour. Among the best gigs I've ever been to. One of those shows where the vibe was so awesome that a 45 minute set turned in to two and a half hours.
Wow you got a two and a half hour show?! That's awesome.
Filter is amazing. Just saw these guys back in May, they always put on a great show.
Yes 🙌- love it Molly. Filter are fantastic. Make sure you do Title of Record next!
Yeah this band has such a great sound! I'm looking forward to hearing Title Of Record as well.
I really LOVE Filter's first 3 albums. Richard Patrick has a really interesting story and history, a lot of "wow, no way, really?" type of things with him. Dose is my favorite song on this album, although I really love Stuck in Here also (perhaps as an opposite to Dose).
I'll definitely plan on doing some more Filter reactions, this introduction to their music really hooked me. And I'll have to look up more on Richard Patrick too, I had no idea he was in Nine Inch Nails before starting Filter.
@mollyesanborn look up who his brother is. Lol
90s were a great time. I remember seeing Bush, Chevelle, and Filter as the opener in 2012.
Yeah these 90's albums I've been discovering recently have all been great! Certainly a top tier decade for good rock/metal/industrial music.
I almost forgot about Bush. Sixteen Stone is an album worth checking out for Molly.
You should check their album "Title of Record." Since you recently listened to Smashing Pumpkins, it may interest you to know the songs on ToR are mostly related to his affair at the time with SP bassist D'Arcy Wretzky, even a lyric about how their only link is the piece of plastic he holds to his head (his cell phone). It's terribly tragic in some ways, even if he was heartbroken over a woman who was married at the time. It also has their iconic track "Take My Picture," which is about his father. Super great album.
I was just listening to this for the 2nd time this past weekend. I actually like it! I'm definitely going to add this to my playlist. I also find it convenient that Filter has a new album coming out this week that I will be definitely checking out. If I had to pick my 5 favorite industrial albums
Pretty hate machine by Nine inch nails
Psalm 69 by ministry
Short Bus by Filter (obviously)
Wisconsin Death trip by Static X
Sehnsucht by Rammstein
That is an extremely solid list of favorite industrial albums! Nine Inch Nails is always a winner in my book, I absolutely love their entire discography. And I had no clue Filter had a new album coming out soon, that is very coincidental timing with this video. Curious to hear what people will think of it.
@@mollyesanborn me neither, I just found out about it yesterday.
@@mollyesanborn Well did you know that back in the way (late 80s early 90s) Richard Patrick used to play for Nine Inch Nails for their live shows?
@@tonyschannel7438 no I did not know that! Makes a lot of sense though, I do hear a lot of similarities between Filter and NIN.
If you haven't heard them, I'd definitely recommend Fear Factory - Obsolete and Demanufacture.
Don't know if it has been mentioned but Richard Patrick's (front man of Filter) brother is Robert Patrick.
Robert Patrick was the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Someone else did mention this, I had no idea! Thanks for sharing.
Your videos are the best Molly ☺️☺️
Thank you!! :)
I don´t know if you are into hip hop, but listen to Impossible Kid or Skelethon from Aesop Rock. That dude has the biggest vocabulary, phenomenal beats and unique flow. His lyrical content is insanely cryptic.
Yeah I enjoy hip hop too! I know I tend to do a lot of rock/metal reactions here on my channel but I'm ALWAYS open to any suggestions. I'll make sure that Aesop Rock is on my list :)
@@mollyesanborn Skelethon is my favorite album from him and i am excited what you will say about Leasureforce or Zero Dark Thirty. :P
The vocalist was in the past a member Nine Inch Nails band ! And we see that in his style! But he had his own vision of industrial metal! A very cool one actually! I still think The Amalgamut album is their best creation! It's almost perfect!🤘❤🦇🦇🦇
Nice track that plays in the beginning of the movie "Demon Knight" from 1995. Really sets the mood of the movie..
I've never seen that film before, maybe I'll have to give it a watch now!
@@mollyesanborn It's a "Tale from the Crypt " Movie. They did another one called Bordello of Blood, but I like this one better. Probably because I was in high school at the time and saw it at the theater. Nostalgia. :)
Really happy to see you react to this one. My mother listened to "Hey Man, Nice Shot" a lot when I was a kid and this album has stuck with me ever since.
I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on more strictly industrial bands like Coil and Throbbing Gristle, or even some power electronics like Whitehouse.
Thank you for the suggestions! I'll have to keep those in mind :)
“Hey man nice shot” is about the suicide of the former treasurer of my hometown in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He ended up being guilty of taking bribes and his press conference was live and his death was broadcast on live tv. A lot of people think it’s about Kurt cobain since the song came out a year after his death.
Bud Dwyer was his name? Its been a long time since i read up on that but i might have read somewhere reputable that in fact he was innocent and that this other politician had framed him for it? IDK......just completely crazy the whole thing.
That's wild, thanks for the info!
@@slmjm8849 yep!
I watched it happen. It was shocking and traumatizing, and I'll never get the images out of my head.
Filter ROCKS!
I agree! 🤘
The amazing review!!! And of course the infamous Molly microphone!! Yesssss
Haha, thanks for watching! :D
I love your reactions, and i love it Filter, congrats from Brazil ;)
Thanks for watching! And yeah Filter is a great band!
This was one of the first cds I owned
Filter's first three albums are my favorite. Lotta great tracks in The Amalgamut, their follow up to Title Of Record.
Please make a FUGAZI reaction! Album: The argument
I love your reactions!
No, sorry. She needs to listened to Staind, Disturbed, Godsmack, etc first.
Glad you're enjoying the reactions! I've got Fugazi on my list, I'll definitely keep that album in mind.
@@mollyesanborn Along the same vein as Fugazi, with some Deftones and Nirvana in the mix, I think you'd love Rival Schools - United by Fate.
After a year of requesting california by bungle, i just saw you did it! I AM BACKKKKK thank u so much
Yay, glad you're back! I know, Mr. Bungle took me TOO LONG to get to a second album from them. I'll try and not make you wait that long again for a Disco Volante reaction haha.
@@mollyesanborn ahaah thank you, Mr Bungle is a band that listens to no one- including their own fans (part of their charm). I dont like disco volante much, but ill watch the reaction anyways 💚😊
richard patrick wrote some of these while he was with nine inch nails and stabbing westward, the latter of which he pretty much ripped off a riff from "ungod" for "hey man nice shot." stabbing westward is worth checking out of you liked this!
Filter is Amazing. Please check out their other albums. My favourite is " where do we go from here "
I loved their sound on Short Bus, I'll definitely be checking out more from their discography :)
@@mollyesanbornOhh, you gonna love it. That song.. is one of Filter song that i can't even described
Certainly one of my favorite albums from the 90's!
Yeah this album rocks!
I wasnt a big fan of this band........till i heard their next album title of record. 😮
Ooh, I'm looking forward to hearing Title Of Record now!
I really like filter Molly they are a great band 🆒👍
Yeah I love their sound too based on this first album from them! I'm excited to check out more of their discography now.
I just found this band through you, im excited to go through their discography! Im excited for you to get to the Adore Album by the Smashing Pumpkins
Oh that's so awesome, glad you've discovered Filter! They're great, I can't wait to dive more into their discography. And yes I am excited to hear Adore as well, I'll definitely try and do a reaction for it soon :)
Solid album but Title of Record, their second album, was their most successful album. This album, like Tool and Deftones first albums, is really raw, aggressive and heavy. Filters sound got more polished and accessible as they evolved with a couple successful rock ballad singles.Filter also dropped some singles that are pretty good between this album and the second you should check out. Jurrasitol is one of my fav b-sides. Definitely checkout the 3rd album too. Amalgamut. Its also a solid album too. Cheers!
Thanks for letting me know, I'll have to give those b-sides a listen at some point. And I'll definitely plan on a reaction to Title Of Record as well, Filter's got a great sound and I'm excited to hear more from them.
Really good, loud album. Great to test new speakers with.
Yep!!
The singer of the band was originally in nine inch nails and he made hey man nice shot, he actually showed Trent reznor and he only offered him writing credits for it so he left the band I started his own
A few others have mentioned this as well, I'm a big NIN fan and I never knew he used to be their guitarist.
7:22 Voicemail wasn’t widely adopted until Y2K-ish. That was an answering machine message. 😁
Ahh, thanks for clarifying that!
@@mollyesanborn You bet. Thanks for sharing your music experiences with the world (and only occasionally making me feel old). 😄
@@wheatthicks haha, thanks for watching! :)
The 3rd album The Amalgamut is definitely the best, closely followed by 2nd, yeah richard patrick left NIN early the start this and nine inch nails song 'Piggy" is about patrick, they are friends again now though that theyve both matured greatly
I'm very excited to dig deeper into Filter's whole discography now, this debut from them is great. And I had no idea Piggy was about him, thanks for letting me know.
Nice reaction Molly, please react on the album ANOTHER VISION - OKTAF KANIS 🔥🔥🔥
Really appreciated the Deftones comparison...

Yeah the CRYSTAL METHOD is similar and also collaborated with FILTER on one of the best songs in the ln the last 30 years in my opinion
Ah , I love this album!
Yeah it's pretty great! Glad I've finally checked Filter out.
I was literally gonna suggest Title of Record
Haven't heard of this band or album before, but based on what I'm hearing, it sounds pretty good! I think I'll definitely check out a few of these songs myself
Definitely go give this album a listen! If you love anything industrial you're gonna love it too. I'm really excited to hear more from Filter now.
Hey man Nice Shot one of the greatest tracks of all time. He was talking about Kurt Cobain.
Im not sure how popular they were in the US but here in the UK i feel they didnt get the attention they deserved. Great band
Yeah I had never heard of Filter until people in the comments were suggesting I check them out. Definitely a hidden gem!

This album is gold. For another hidden gem try Vision of Disorder - Imprint.
Yes a hidden gem indeed! I'm so glad people in the comments suggested I check this band out. And I'll make sure that your album suggestion is on my list, thank you!
@@mollyesanborn it’s a rather intense metalcore album but it’s worth a listen if you’re in the mood. The song Jada Bloom still gets stuck in my head after all these years.
If you are looking into some slight variants of Rock/Metal, I highly recommend "Leitmotif" by Dredg. A concept album that features long instrumentals mixed with melody and high energy - make sure you don't listen to every track by itself! In case you like, "El Cielo" is even better.
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll make sure that Dredg is on my list.
Hi Molly, How are you? I think so you can react debut album for te another project for the singer of Filter, this name is Army of Anyone, basically, the band it was formed with members to Stone Temple Pilots + Filter.
In my opinion is the great album and a great trip! Stay tune!
I'm all about Filters first two albums, but after that i have struggled to remain a filter fan. Filter's latest release has finally ended my attempts to stay with. but if you want some 90's industrial, can we get "Demanufacture" by Fear Factory... and how could i forget "Burnout at the Hydrogen Bar" by Chemlab
Yeah I'm really curious to hear their whole discography now and see what I'll think of their sound progression across their albums. And thanks for the album suggestions, I love me some good industrial music so I will definitely consider those :)

Great album good video
Yeah I really enjoyed this album! A great introduction to Filter's music.

Molly, don’t let some of these comments fool you lol. THIS is by far their best album. That’s not to say there aren’t quality tracks on some other records, but Short Bus is definitely my favorite overall.
It's a Badass Album, but I do prefer Title of Record a little more

Filter Title of Record 1999 album is their best one. Fun Fact: The singer is the brother of Robert Patrick from Terminator 2.
Can't wait to hear Title Of Record also!

Did u ever find out what A-Coo-Stik means though??? 😅😂😮
Not a huge fan of this, it's kinda "industrial-lite", but what I do notice is just how "gnarly" it does sound - is this the last "true" era where bands actually had money + time to spend in the studio? Drums sound really good too.
Compare it to "standard guitar sound" from recent years and they all sound compressed to hell and back.
I like how you describe this album as "industrial lite." I totally hear that too. It's somehow a really heavy record but there's something really clean about it too, a sort of smoothness to it.
@@mollyesanborn historically, it's a bit late to the game + the singer/frontman Jason Patrick (younger Brother of actor Robert...) was guitar tech fo Trent Reznor. I don't know - it feels (to me) more like... someone playing the part, than someone that really put their heart into it ... still, it's a good intro to the genre regardless + that lead track rocks.
P.S. worth watching An Honest Man - documentary on R Budd Dwyer that the song's "nice shot's" about.
@@wulfgold Richard Patrick, not Jason and he was a touring member not guitar tech. Filter's other founding member Brian Liesegang helped NIN in the studio during the Broken and Downward Spiral era. You can see him behind the computer in the Gave Up video.
Filter nailed it on the first album. Sadly this is their best album. The next few albums are clean and just kinda generic. None of the power from this album is replicated for about 20 years. Some of the newer stuff has this intensity. The second album is painfully lackluster.
Your mention of Filth Pig is completely on point. I had very high hopes for the second album but you'll see the direction. I'm blown away by all the positive reactions to the next album. Good luck.
Hmm yeah I'm really curious to hear their second album that follows this one. A lot of people have been praising it in the comments but I personally like the heavier more raw sound so I might not love the cleaner direction they go in. Should be an interesting listen!
@@mollyesanborn The second album is the fan favorite because it has a more melodic and wide appeal to it. There is a stronger connection to the songs, it's not just banging and raw power. Besides maybe the last track "Title of Record" from start to finish is pure gold.
why is this channel dominated by 90s nu-metal, hard rock, post-grunge? is this what your tastes generally are or is this just what's being recommended? honestly there's so many better music out there, from the 90s and other decades.
A mix of both I suppose, a lot of people have suggested these albums and bands in the comments and it's also personal taste as I tend to really love the nu-metal/grunge/industrial stuff I've been hearing lately. Please do leave any other suggestions in the comments, I'm always open to any genre from any decade! :)
@@mollyesanborn I just checked your older videos where you listen your favorite albums from such and such years, and it seems like you'd be more into alt/indie/experimental stuff than nu-metal. I just find it funny that someone that likes Godspeed You Black Emperor or Sufjan Stevens is listen to endless nu-metal now.
@@luigidelmar5015 yeah alternative, indie, experimental music is largely what I listened to before i started this channel (and I still listen to it and love it). This channel has just allowed me to expand my musical tastes and branch out into genres like nu-metal as well.
@@mollyesanborn if you wanted to "expand your taste" there's so many paths can you can take. if you stick with the recommendations from commenters, you're gonna be stuck in nu-metal recommendations ghetto for the foreseeable future. if you wanted metal, you could listen to real metal. plenty of good doom/stoner/death/sludge/post metal. you could listen to classic hard rock or heavy psych, prog, etc. you could listen to experimental art rock/folk/pop. and you should listen to more Americana / folk / alt country.
One of my favourite albums ever. Great reaction!
Yeah I really enjoyed this one! A very dark album in terms of its tone. I'm really excited to hear more from Filter now.
