By God’s patience and mercy, I just rolled the big 5-0 on 18th, so everyday I appreciate more and more that much of your motive for these excellent productions is to allow us elder woodsmen to vicariously keep enjoying the hunt! LOL! So keep it up!
Clayton, I love your content! Happy "Late" Birthday. Well, maybe I should say early. Not sure what I commented before but I will def share your channel with my son. Just noticed you have a group too. That's awesome. Not sure what state you're in but I'm sure I'll find out. We're in SE Ohio near the Ohio River. Love your dog's name. It's a name I really like too. Here's a little bit about our dog & how we are blessed to have him. Just watched a video where another Cur owner was showing the tenacity of the breed especially when it comes to hunting coons. He also shared that they're rare. Yes, they're extremely rare. I wasn't familiar with the breed prior to our dog & I've been around a lot of different dogs through out my life. Learned that some people confuse them with Pits. That made me think about breeding. Definitely don't want the breed to start being bred with Pit Bulls. Really don't want the breed mixed at all but unfortunately it happens. It happens a lot with all breeds due to money hungry back yard breeders. Ours is mixed with German Shepherd (German - US Military wash out) but he looks exactly like the original Mountain Cur. Larger, robust with the bob tail. His hind legs are muscular with those treeing feet. The Cur DNA is definitely dominate. It's also apparent in his traits. As a pup, he wanted to tree almost as soon as we had him on the property. Fortunately, we have 33 acres for him to run. Lot's of squirrels & other wildlife. We are a hunting family. Our dog has great living conditions. Oh yes, he's also a house dog. I love him a lot. He's full of personality. Yes, he's also extremely intelligent. I often wonder about his litter mates especially because of what these dog's desire & love. They love to run & hunt. I hope they all have wonderful loving homes, especially in non-hunting families. I can confirm that even if they're socialized with other pets that natural instinct will take over. Can confirm what's been shared about cats. Yikes, especially wild feral cats. That drive takes over. He's okay with our indoor cat. She actually tells the dogs what to do. It's hilarious. She's an alpha grouchy older female. ;) They're an awesome breed. I'd like to find a female to breed him to bring back more Cur DNA. Nothing wrong with a GSD (we have a female) but I want the Cur line preserved. I love hearing him bay. It's singing to me. We don't have mountains but we have ridges ;). Our dog's name is 'Shooter" but his unofficial name is "Shooter Oakley Lee McKenzie Ridge Runner". His Dad's (Mountain Cur) name was Stubbs. His Mom (GSD) Cheyenne. His original name was "Chubbs" but that was our dog's name that had just passed. That's how I knew what dog to choose in the litter because I can not decide. My husband says I'd take them all. Yep, he's right! But, God made it easy for me. Knew to choose "Chubbs". Love your content & I really mean it. Will take the time to look at your other content. Will definitely also tell my son. Keep hunting..... 🐕🦺🐾 Hope & pray for safe successful hunts & that God blesses you overall abundantly. 🙏Oh, also really liked seeing how you keep your kennels very clean. You're a good man!
This right here is why I'm wanting to transition from hunting hounds and start hunting curs. I tried Feist a few years back but went back to hounds. I think these curs will suite the areas that I have to hunt along with more. of my style of hunting. Great video yet again, Clayton. Thanks for sharing.
Happy late birthday brother! Jax is doing great 👍my jax dog has the same collar except for his is the 2 inch version. He has had it for 3-4 years and still looks great
Man I really enjoyed this video this morning b4 going to work !!! I really want one of these dogs in a few years after retirement and they do make great house pets and it doesn't seem to interrupt their hunting capabilities either which is what I was looking for but just for a true squirrel dog and do they have to hunt out to 500 yards for I'll be and older retired healthier man to catch up to a dog that distance or do they break from the tree and come back to the hunter which is a bad habit I suppose !!! What is the radio collar's purpose for I wouldn't want to get that much of an investment into the sport of squirrel hunting !!! Where are you located Mr. Clark for I care about your sincerity of dog training and just may want to buy a pup someday down the road from you sir !!!
I'm a simple man... I see a mountain cur and I subscribe. Good looking dog sir. Judging from his body style and tree smarts, he has some Jukebox in the pedigree doesn't he?
I have 3 curs, a Streak bread male, a Beaty and Thundersport bred female, and a Kemmer male. I squirrel hunt mostly, but I have dabbled in coon hunting with all of them, just have trouble keeping them off hogs after dark. They really are the greatest multi purpose dog.
Hey I have a coom dog curr mix that’s ab 6 months old and I’m trying to get into squirrel hunting any tips you can give me, she will try and bark but I can’t get her to run trails or track the best
I have a mountain fiest named rainy and she has treed coons before, do you think if we took her out at night she would exclusively tree coons? we got her a few days ago because our last squirrel dog passed away last year and we missed a whole season, also any tips on getting her used to hunting with me and other people and dogs because shell tree if im yhe only one with her but not if anyone else is there
I don’t have experience with fiests, but it really depends on the individual dog and the coon population, and time of year. If the dog uses mostly eyes to tree coon or doesn’t have the strongest nose unless it runs up on one it could struggle. The only real way to tell is to try it. And as far as not wanting to tree around other people she may come out of it if you socialize her with other people and dogs more often, or that just may be how it is.
If you enjoyed this video please leave a like and subscribe. Thanks for watching
Will also tell my son!
Happy Birthday, too!!
Thank you

😊😊C00l
Is it easier to start your dogs on coon or squirrel first?
Whatever the dog seems to favor more is always the easiest
Doesn't get any better than that.......do you ever harvest anything when it's leagle kill season?
Sometimes but not very often since I hunt so frequently in the areas where I live.
Kill season for squirrel isn’t until the end of September here and coon isn’t until November 10th
