    MY KIND OF VIDEO!!! Love it!
    I really like the NTG3! I personally think it's the best sound on your voice compared to the others in this video. I mean, I should like it the most though 🤣since it's the most expensive. It's definitely the most expensive for a reason. It has a very nice full low end and a pleasant amount of clarity. I missed having one, so I actually just re-bought an ntg3 the other day, and I am going to have it in a comparison video really soon!
    I agree, the VM Go II is an incredible value though! The fact that you can plug it in as a USB mic and change the onboard DSP, is so awesome!
    It seems like the Micro II has a much better bass response than the original micro... but for an extra $20 it makes sense to get VM GO II just simply due to the extra features. As far as sound goes the VM GO II and the VM Micro II actually sound very similar. I wonder if they use the same capsule...
    I am just not the biggest fan of the NTG5 at that price. I do love the NTG though. I got one a while back and have used it a bunch!
    Good analysis of these mics!

    Awesome video! I really like the VideoMic Go II - sounds great for the price. I have a Rode NT1 (had it over 20 years!) but want a shotgun mic in my arsenal as a new creator/UA-cam person. This video review has sealed it for me. Cheers, buddy!

    Thanks for the overview, Mark. I was pleasantly suprised at the original VideoMic - great clarity for the price. I've done quite a lot of testing myself as well, and settled on two: Sennheiser MK4 for regular computer chat and Neumann KM185 for UA-cam videos. The latter I think is quite an unsung hero that's (in my opinion) quite similar to the holy grail (Sennheiser MKH50) at half the price - it even scores top 3 with Bandrew from Podcastage who's the ultimate mic Chad. :D

    The NTG is the one I would go with....however I am a baller on a budget so I went with the Comica VM-20. Its basically the chinese version of the NTG and sounds phenomenal. I pair that baby boy up with the Hollyland Lark 150 and turn it into a wireless boom mic. Love my setup.

    Great comparison. I have the Rode NTG5, which I like. But, because I already have a deep voice I will often switch to my Sennheiser MKE 600. Which I used on a feature film I was DP and sound man on. The MKE 600 records a very natural sounding audio for most voices. The Sennheiser MKH 416 is popular, and costs about three times as much as the MKE 600. But, to me, I cannot tell the difference between the two.
    I also have the VideoMic GO II, which I use for all of my UA-cam videos. And it captures excellent audio sound and is must have for me.
    Great job as usual.

    Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it. I got myself an XLR-K3M a while back for my a6400, and I've been doing a lot of testing with it vs using the 3.5mm jack and I am consistently blown away by the difference it makes. Even when I adapt the 3.5mm from most of my available mics to the 1/4" that the K3M recognizes, while I can't really tell too much of a sound quality difference in the non-XLR mics, the ability to have physical dials to adjust my levels instead of having to dive into the settings on the camera is a huge plus. Now if only I had more XLR mics...

    I agree that the VideoMic Go II punches above its weight, and is the only 3.5mm I liked in the blind test... I'm partial to XLR though, and if money was no object I'd get an F series Zoom (F3 or F6) with 32b float recording so that you literally can't clip or even need to worry about setting levels, and probably a Senn MK4.

    Heh, well, apparently my ears still work - the NTG5 was the best to me, best resolution/clarity by quite a noticeable difference. But then I have several Röde mics including NTG2 and a stereo pair of M5's. Also run them on a SoundDevices recorder mostly, the preamps on it are better than the Fx30 XLR handle, to my ears anyway.
    But this really should basically say that which is 'best to buy' depends on what for, if the thing you want to record on has no XLR you're not going to do much with an XLR mic. If you're recording yourself singing in a tiled bathroom really loud, you're just going to have to test different mics there, reflections would likely fubar the sound even from the shotguns, but ya never know.

    HI! I have had the Rode NTG3 for more than 10 years and I always had the following question, when I turn up the gain on the recorder the recorded signal has a noise floor in the high frequencies, it is not so noticeable but noticeable when I see it in programs like izotope rx, when I do the same test with the 416 from sennheiser it does it but at a higher point of the recording. is it like that with all the rodes or will it be mine in particular? Thanks

    Damn, for me the last two sounded worst and in the end one of them is my VideoMicro 😆. But based on the price you get what you pay and it is still good for a beginner like me I guess.
    Great move from Rode. They properly heard your Panasonic sales rep story and wanted to act proactively against it 😆
    Great job and amazing work on the comparison, Microrine 👍
    In case you’ll ever get the Sony ECM B10 in your hands, a comparison would be very interesting. Sony‘s hotshoe solution seems to be extremely convenient.

    Great video and just what I was looking for - thanks! I have a question for you. I've been using the Rode Smartlav+ with the Sony ZV-1 indoors and finding it's either too quiet at lower recording levels in the camera or picks up a lot of background hiss when the levels are set higher, requiring some heavy lifting in post to remove it. I was thinking to switch to the Rode videoMic GO II so I can stop worrying about rustling the lav mic when I move, and your video seems to support the audio quality. But...how do you think the audio recording level and/or background hiss might change or stay the same with that switch? Thanks!

  • @ww1www
    @ww1www Рік тому

    Great video, thanks for doing it. The NTG3 stood out, no surprise there. Surprise was the old original Videomic which sounded better than I would have anticapated. The Videomicro was a negative surprise . I have two of them and honestly, they sound much better than this. Of course they lack in the low end, and they are a bit sibilant and have lower than ideal output level, but in reality I find them quite acceptable. I wonder if it is the recording device, the environment, the particular piece or your voice.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Рік тому +1

      it's just in comparison to the expensive mics. If the fancier mics weren't there - the micro would sound fine. It's just the juxtaposition

      @ww1www Рік тому

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis True, but still. I also use more expensive ones, and yes, usually what you pay is what you get, but I never heard this much difference. I might try to do a comparison video at a point. But I find that the recorder counts as well. The Videomic NTG for example does not work that well on my Canon M50, on my audio recorders it sounds just fantastic. Maybe a voltage or impedance issue, not sure.
