  • In summer 2023 I revisited the stunning Ötztal in the Austrian Tirol when spent a week in Obergurgl which is Austria's highest village. During the week I made use of the Ötztal visitor card which gave access to all the chairlifts, cable cars and local attractions. Then travelled south over the Alps via the Timmelsjoch pass onto Italy to visit Nago Torbole next to the northern shores of Lake Garda. While in Italy I travelled to the Dolomites for a day to revisit areas previously explored in 1996 and 2005.

Thanks for watching Kev. I'd definitely recommend a trip to the Alps. About 25 years ago Dave and I used to go to Switzerland for two weeks hiking each summer. Sometimes we hired guides and managed to climb a few of the easier 4000m peaks. There are some that don't require climbing eg Gran Paradiso, some peaks on Monte Rosa, Breithorn and Allalinhorn. Also, some cracking summits around 3500m eg Pigne d'Arolla, Mont Blanc de Cheilion. Unfortunately, the exchange rate these days makes Switzerland very, very expensive if live in UK. Austria is more affordable and if you can make use of the summer cards for free cable car access helps a lot, especially when family are there too. Lake Garda has nice contrast of warm more settled weather and still has good mountain scenery. ATB Derek

@@scottishclimber7630 Yeah I've always fancied Switzerland, but heard it's pretty pricey. Defo gonnae look into getting over to Austria and Italy in the future.👍
