Thank you so very much! We miss sailing -- our first "RV" was a 34-foot sailboat on the Gulf. And I grew up just across the border in Norwich, CT. We had many wonderful family dinners while growing up at Camille's Roman Garden on Federal Hill.
Hi, you did a fabulous job on your Newport video. I was born and raised here, and still living here. You're really good at what you do. Newport rocks!!
It’s easy to get swept up in the history of Newport! The wealth, the stories, the scandals beyond the fancy gates and beautiful homes. I would have loved to attend Salve Regina college if I could redo my life, just for the history and setting. Another fun fact, Newport has the largest concentration of the oldest homes in America. Thanks for taking me back!
@@bfranco1519 dang it, my reply has disappeared! I'll try this again. Thanks for that little factual tidbit, something I did not know. Newport has an absolutely fascinating history, and thank you so much for coming along with us.
Looking forward to your CT. visit. I miss Salmon River state park in Colchester/ Marlborough. Devil’s Hopyard in East Haddam. Northwestern CT is charming as well as the shoreline. The cities are terrible…I think we always hold a special place in our hearts for our childhood home. Mine was full of turmoil from a broken family and my own mistakes. but CT was my home for almost 30 years! I went back for the first time in 2018 ( after a 15 year hiatus). My wife and 3 kids flew into Boston, spent 3 day in Newport, a day or two in CT. and 3 days in Stowe VT. Just want my kids to see where I grew up and give them a “New England” experience.
@@bfranco1519 that's essentially the same thing that we've been trying to do for ourselves the past couple of months. See some stuff from our memories and enjoy New England. I should consider myself fortunate to have had a good home life as a kid. All parents make mistakes, myself included, but by and large mine were good ones.
Thank you. You have done your homework very well. I enjoyed your video and even learned things I had not known. I am a Rhode Island born. This State is extremely tiny to all others, yet she is mighty. And to me she is gorgeous. Thanks again ✌️ 😁.
❤ Superb on all levels! Your tireless work here is so appreciated. So much in this area that I never knew about but do now because of you. Thank you. I’m very happy that you were able to find the stress relief of the work week in the hike on that Friday. An amazing part of RV life and the flexibility it brings to unwind the stress of what life throws at you. Thanks again for bringing us along and safe travels. You are an amazing individual Mr. GA.❤
Thanks Marc... this was enjoyable to view, as always. This was definitely the year of the coastlands. Seeing all these episodes has renewed my interest in water recreation and likely a small 16' Boston Whaler runabout in the future. Plus, a motorized inflatable that I can take with me in my RV. I loved seeing the ocean views from your drone. That is the only way to really capture the feel of the place. I liked thelat you reviewed some of the seafood and differences in the east coast seafood nomenclature. But the most relaxing part was your hike along the coastal trail. The simplicity and isolated views without any of the local hustle and bustle in the background, was a nice relief. Gord
@@gorrdd Thank you! That hike in the wildlife refuge was a peaceful respite that I truly needed that Friday afternoon. It should be obvious to most regular viewers by now that I truly love the coast. I was raised there and it's in my blood - more on that in next week's episode. But in real time (and about 3 weeks ahead of video time) we will be moving to our final coastal location for next week. Then it's straight into Appalachia.
@@GrandAdventure This has been a really great season, Marc. I love the coast, the water, and boating... as well. That's where you started, and then moved over to land cruisers. I'm glad you still have another three weeks of coastal episodes. Looking forward to all of them buddy. Gord
@@kenhazlin5860 you too, Ken. I worked for the Barbers at The Cove back in the 80s. Best damned seafood shack around. I still have their RI chowder recipe.
Great video of Newport and the surrounding areas which brings back memories for me, I grew up in Narragansett and made many visits to Newport which I occasionally still do to this day, I love going to Brenton Point State Park on Ocean Drive to grab my chair and just watch the waves crash along the rocks, looking forward to next week's video of Southeastern Connecticut which will bring back more memories for me as I'm only a 30 minute drive from Stonington.
Thanks Dan! Yep, I'm from Norwich but went to a regional high school, so had many friends from Stonington, Mystic, New London, Groton, and Westerly, and therefore hung out in all of those places. Filming next week's episode was a bit of time travel for me. I wanted to get over to Narragansett and Point Judith/Galilee the week we filmed this episode, but simply ran out of time to do so. I still have some photos that I took over there during high school as I was discovering how to best use a camera. Finally, about 90% of those clips of the surf from Hurricane Ernesto's effects were filmed at Brenton Point.
Mark excellent video as always, spectacular video aerial and ground presentations. Looking forward to all the coming videos. I grew up in South Western CONNECTICUT and spent lots of time in your area as a kid and later. THANKS AGAIN...THOMAS

Hello Marc, we enjoyed your adventure to Newport this evening. I must say, however, that I was hoping that you would comment about and show the US Naval Station on Coasters Island , as well as the old Hotel Viking in Newport. Some ancient memories for me. With so much to see in the Newport area, I can see how it would be difficult to choose.
Glad you enjoyed it! It sure can be difficult to choose what to film at times, and what to not film. There's only so wide a net we can cast for a multitude of reasons, including: 1. We're in each destination for one week; 2. The "day job" 8-5 M-F; 3. Weather on filming days; and 4. How long an episode we want to produce, and the amount of editing time we'll need to devote to it.
@@GrandAdventure Thank you for your thoughtful reply. My wife and I were wondering about the “day job” because you mentioned it obliquely. We had the mistaken impression that you were doing Grand Adventure as a second “career” after retiring from your previous endeavor, whatever that may have been. Good luck to you! We look forward to the next GA. It seems that you might have to hurry back to Utah if they get an early snowfall!
@@JMOUC265 thank you! Nope, I'm still working in the corporate world. Grand Adventure is like having a second full-time job. 😁 It's never been that much of a problem in the past, but I'll admit that this season it's crept up on me. Part of that I attribute to the longer episodes we've been publishing this season. That means more time getting out there and filming, more time editing, more markup work, etc. I recently came to the realization that I've really been burning the candle at both ends this year and need to chill out more. So I dialed it back a bit this week in Delaware (our videos currently lag real time by ~3 weeks). Film a little less, take some time to just sit around in the evenings like a vegetable, and not feel compelled to always be doing something productive.
