- New plane, new day. This is one I'm quite excited about. Enough I'm planning to do a little overview and review video for it next. AtomRC hit it out of the park with this one.
**Correction: I stated at 9:10 that there was no stabilization but I realized that I must have had RockSteady on (the O3's built in stabilization). So that video IS in fact stabilized, just not with Gyroflow. **
The PIP plane view in the main part was stabilized by Gyroflow at a very low level as I wanted to show exactly what it was doing.
Its high alpha capabilities and slow speed handling are unique in my FPV fleet. It leads to some really unique opportunities for FPV and gaps. I didn't think anything would unseat my T1 as the current fleet favorite, but this may be the one.
Notamed Closed Jr and my daughter helped me capture some footage from the ground because this plane needs to be seen to be believed.
More to come soon!

Nice flying. Liked the ending for sure 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow, I did not realize this plane was that stable, especially the high alpha. I just might have to pull the trigger on one of these. Also, what a wonderful little field you have there. Such a gorgeous day!!
Yeah, so far very impressed. Want to see what its like on a windy, gusty day.
Well, that Penguin harriers with ease. Curious to see in the next vid how you did that. I've flown mine already a lot, small area acrobatic mostly. Until now stall speed is around 30 kmh and harriers are possible but quite instable. I have the CG just after the CG dots, added some motor down thrust (approx 2 - 3 degrees). Added motor differential, which works quite nice. 70% yaw expo, PID's to zero and FF 255 and 0,2 motor mixer. This plane is fun to fly but not made for efficient speed runs as the Dolphin is.
It's astonishing the differences in speed that this plane can achieve, almost from hovering to full speed, impressive !
I have a big grin when ever I'm flying it around.
Don't know how you flew so well looking at the sky. Love the commentary from your son.
He did a great job! I'll have to cover more about the Penguin in my next video but there are some things to help out with being so nose high.
Surprised at the performance of that plane.. Really enjoyed the comments from the camera man... 🙂
Did you design the nose yourself?
Excellent flying btw
Yep, still playing with it but I'll post it for anyone that wants it once I'm happy with it.
High Alpha Master.
Great co-pilot commentary with excellent questions. Thinking you may need a tilt-servo on the camera to reduce the up-tilt. Nice flying, have not seen anyone fly the Penguin like this. Looks to be a blast!
Thanks! A servo is a possibility I've been considering. I've printed a new nose to allow for a fixed down tilt. We'll see what that's like before going to the complexity of a servo. The O3 is a really wide angle camera so from the goggles you can actually see pretty far "down".
Having a wider field of view is great, so only need a minimal down tilt.
Too bad no way (I know of) to install two cameras on an HD VTx, like would be possible with analog (as number FC's had built-in option). A switch between forward and down would be a simple and reliable setup.
Did you change the control throws away from the factory positions, like 'name brand' reviewers have? The near hover performance shown here, plus your usual between-the-silos stuff, one would think they would be places the higher deflections would be useful.
Not yet. I usually like to play with an airplane as is for a little while before messing with things. I do think a little boost in control surfaces would be a good thing though.
@@NotamedClosed Boost? Everyone else has been Reducing(!) the throws, and you want more??? :D
I so much want to see you fly it one that farm location, should be wicked fun.
@@PiDsPagePrototypes Reduce? No that's crazy. This plane is so cool at slow speed and with the airflow you get from the front props it does so good with lots of throws! Maybe it doesn't need to be increased, but I would not reduce it for my style of flying.
can u shar the stl for that nose ?
