Skinner really is quite an admirable person most of the time.

I think Skinner is my favourite character. He is so complex, sometimes high status, sometimes low, and his deadpan voice is hilarious on every line. Harry Shearer voices him, Burns and Smithers in this scene.

This is the Skinner I miss so much... That's one of the many reasons why I only support seasons 1-8.

The writing back then was top notch! A 2-3 minute clip like this is hilarious, where as the last 20 years of The Simpsons I can barely sit through more than 2-3 minutes of any episode: just not funny or entertaining at all!
I absolute love how people circlejerk about the old Simpson's writing, even about the most simple little jokes like the one you mention. Yes the new Simpsons is awful, but that doesn't mean the old Simpsons were some kind of divine gift with unprecedented writing.

There should have been more interactions between Skinner and Burns. They have an equal grasp of the English language, which makes for interesting dialogue.
Plus its just Harry Shearer talking to himself. My favourite VA in the show. He's just amazing
