That system of naming by having to twist that knob so much, uniden did this on the older radios as well. The trunktracker III does that. By the way, the layout of system, dept, channel is also similar on the old radio, so if you were familiar with it, this works similarly. The menus of both have many simlarities
I have this same scanner. I JUST CANT GET IT I have tried for 2 weeks I still cant get it programed, only by zip and that gives me way to much area HELP!!!!
I started to show how to do this at around the 4:25 point of this very video. Without using the PC, it can take a while, but basically rotate the dial on top to navigate to each letter. Then press E when you are finished.
Thank you for this video...I got the 100 page manual out and started reading it... and fell asleep...The barriers to operation on these things are crazy... All the top level functions should be available on the keypad, the knob should at least turn the volume up or down, but no you have to press and turn and twist and select a menu... Question: Did someone at Uniden take lessons for a torturer and learned the art of User-Hostile Interfaces from the school of Evil interfaces at a mediaeval castle of horrors? Just asking because if there's a course how to make your evil interfaces even more horrific... I'd use this scanner as an example of excellence.
Yes, I agree. It is almost as if Uniden intentionally created this scanner to be extremely cumbersome to program. I recently learned the hard way that it also doesn't save all your manual programming unless you exit out of everything til you get to scan mode before turning it off.
@@mrh.1107 Thank you for the reply and the warning! Oh just great... you mean I could have jumped through all those hoops to just lose all of that work if I didn't go back to scan mode? YIKES. And BTW: I thing you might not be updated to the latest firmware... What a hot mess it was to upgrade the firmware. I'm a 30+ year careered Firmware Engineer and I've never seen anything so complex to use... and I'm used to complexity in the systems that I build or the test gear, like a 4 channel Digital scopes, analyzers, and such, I've worked at HP, Stanford, Ubicom, Davis Instruments, etc. It's not like technology intimidates me... but if our assumptions are correct, that is to say they Intentionally made complex and error-prone then I wonder why? Either it's incompetence or malice? because It's almost like they went out of their way to make it that way. I usually just roll my eyes and go on when I see something minor and Oh well that was a bit quirky or awkward, but nothing ever like this! Sorry for the rant, but I'm still feeling frustrated over what should be a fairly straightforward piece of tech.
can't for the life of me figure out how to enter multiple channels. short time ago the frequency list went dark . seems strange I can't locate them. any helpful ideas
If your frequency list "went dark", it is possible your battery just went dead in the midst of programming or shortly after programming before the scanner saved your programming. Remember you need to create a new SYSTEM first and assign it as a favorite list/assign it a favorite list number, BEFORE programming your frequency list. Then you need to make sure that "favorite list number" is turned ON when scanning. Sorry, its very hard to assist you without being there in person. If you want to create your own youtube video showing me where you are getting stuck exactly, I may be able to further assist.

Yes, it is almost as if they designed it intentionally to not be user friendly. Just enjoy your scanners now before everything goes encrypted. :)
