I originally posted this video in May 2012, not even expecting anyone to see it, but became my most-viewed one as of May 2022. Good grief! Please, go check out my newer content of train activity, it is WAY better than this. :-) But, thank you for watching, I appreciate it. This scanner model hasn't been sold officially through Uniden for years, however if you really want a BC72XLT, your best bet is to check eBay or similar sources. -Lewis
Congrats on the 200 videos man, Thanks for posting this for not just me but ANYONE who needs/needed help with putting frequencies into thier Uniden Bearcat BC72XLT scanner. Im sure we all appreciate it man. Thanks again
thank you so much, i had a hell of a hard time programming in numbers. If you ever find your self in the Southeast we have some kick ass trains down here as well.
Thanks, today I found an excellent condition one complete with AC adaptor and rechargeables in our Electronics Recycling, this info will come in handy.
Yes, we need to railfan for sure! I'm gonna be in the Tuscola area with a buddy next Friday (the 25th) and if you're available that day come join us! Hopefully it'll be busy!
Priority channels are ones that will automatically pick up when there's chatter, even while the scanner may be scanning other channels. Regular channels will pick up only when the scanner lands on them. Example: 161.190 is a priority channel on my scanner, while 160.440 is a regular channel. If I scan only those two and both are chatting at the same time, 161.190 will be heard over 160.440. Hope this helped you!
Yes you can. Make sure the scanner is off first. Then hold down 2, 9, "hold", and then turn on the scanner. It'll take about 3 seconds and then you should see "clear" on the screen.
The standard AAR channels span between 160.2150 and 161.5650 and there's no other services using that range so I just programmed one of the custom search ranges for that and it works perfectly. Saves my search bank channels for more important stuff, my Whistler WS1040 has a rail service search and it basically just does the same thing, searches the range instead of having the channels programmed.
Thanks. I'd say about 4-5 miles. The antenna that the scanner comes with isn't the best so I'd recommend that you get a longer one if you want to pick up a lot of chatter.
Thank you...do you know if all has to provide their frequencies...New Martinsville seems to not publish their Sheriff...What's your advise on that. Thank you.
BrunermanVideo Are you referring to New Martinsville, WV? If so give this a look: www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=3048 I believe the frequency you'd put in a scanner like the one in my video would be 154.650.
Good Vid man. A friend of mine gave me the exact scanner. He didnt know how to program it. You video helped a lot. Hey, BTW is there a posted list of updated frequencies online? Im trying to find Oak Lawn, Il. Thx again man!
Glad to hear this video came in handy. :-) This is the only link I seemed to find regarding Oak Lawn. Take care. www.interceptradio.com/slocal.php?disp=1&country=US&state=IL&county=Cook&city=Oak%20Lawn
I bought this scanner last Winter and I have tried and tried to program my scanner. I just cannot get the scanner to program. I read the manual and watched your video. I stopped at Radioshack today. The employee said they only program the new digital trunk digital scanners. Do you know of a store that could help me program my bearcat?
I have the same scanner.. The frequency finder on it is an awesome feature but I've found that it burns out batteries quite quickly. Do you have the same problem with yours?
Hey man we need to railfan tolono sometime dude thatd be awesome. Oh and yesterday 5/17/12 I saw an ex SP in SP paint traveling south through pesotum on CN's autorack that i heard changes into a UP somewhere down south
do you have to ad a station or can you just go thrue all the stations until you find what you wanna hear. thanks man. oh can you run it without batteries? like just have it pluged into the USB charger and no batteries? peace
Yes, if 1-10 are all there, then it is scanning all of your channels. After you hit the 8 button and the "8" disappears at the top, it will not scan channels in bank #8.
can you please explain programming the banks and all that. I programmed 2 frequencies like you and I can only find 1. Is there another button you press to store them. How many frequencies per bank ?? thanks.
My Uncle's uniden scanner stopped working after cell tower was installed. So did my mother's radio shack scanner and other neighbors in small town. One person took theirs to Radio Shack to have it reprogrammed - it started working. But what about my uncle's uniden. Any solutions??
Hi Lewis I have an old commtel com 212 scanner and I haven't got the manual or frequency codes and I'm not sure how to use the scanner as I had it given me I've been trying to get the frequency codes of the internet but can't find them do you have any suggestions kind regards Paul
djpaul146 Hey Paul, apparently the Uniden UBC60XLT is identical to the Commtel 212. Give this online manual a look over and see if it works. www.uniden.com.au/RESOURCES_MAIN/pdfs/UBC60XLT.PDF Where are you located? I can Google frequency codes for your area if you'd like.
i got a question i got a 100 channel 12 band 800 mhz scanning radio BC860XLT twinturbo uniden bearcat an i have tried to program this thing alot of times i cant get it at all can you help me at all
So when there is a radio frequency, is it necessary to put it in the same channel too ? trainweb.com/radio/freq.htm (Where it states the channel and radio frequency)
when I turn it on, and all the numbers on top (1-10) are there, it says "scan". is it scanning all of my channels? I don't understand this. and whenever I hit the 8 button per say, it turns off on the top of the screen. what does this do
+Jeremiah C Put 000.000 in on the channel you want to "remove." You could even try a hard reset to return everything back to factory settings (although not recommended if you have quite a good number of freqs already programmed in), see this vid for how to do that: ua-cam.com/video/T7N9qrpM_iI/v-deo.html
You have to add a station. When you first open up the scanner (after you buy it) all frequencies are set to 000.000 (aka nothing). Yes you can run it without batteries by using the charger.

+MaximumRD Fantastic!
I have this same scanner & I love it. Works just as good as the very expensive Bearcat scanners
+Joseph Polsonetti Awesome. I still have the same one that's in this video, it's been great!

Just got one today. Thanks for the great help.
Not a prob. Enjoy it.
Yes, it is amazing, lol. Back in 2008 I saw it in New York at the John Golden Theatre (when it was still on Broadway). Great show!
Great pointers and demo. Thanks.
Yes you can. Make sure the scanner is off first. Then hold down 2, 9, "hold", and then turn on the scanner. It'll take about 3 seconds and then you should see "clear" on the screen.
I used to have a scanner years back before mobiles went digital.. that was an interesting listen!

Very Helpful I have similar one for a backup Scanner.

@@LewisMarien thx. Ill try em out
@@bigmoneygrip6561there's no need, all railroads use the same 97 AAR channels. So you just scan through them and it's easy to find.
Just ordered one from amazon.com yesterday. Can't wait to try it out! :)
JohnCousin37 whats it for????
thanks for the info I just got mine
bbq10 Cool. Enjoy it.
It's the updated version of the BC72XLT and BC95XLT scanners. Lets you program up to 300 frequencies.
Anytime! I've always wanted to take a trip down there and railfan but I'm so busy nowadays it's hard for me to plan trips...
Thanks, Zach. Glad it helped. :)

no
Hey Connie, great point there. It's actually burnt out my batteries quickly as well.
Nice tutorial. How far can you pick up?
Hey man we need to railfan tolono sometime dude thatd be awesome. Oh and yesterday 5/17/12 I saw an ex SP in SP paint traveling south through pesotum on CN's autorack that i heard changes into a UP somewhere down south
Can you clear all the programs out to 0000? Or factory reset?
do you have to ad a station or can you just go thrue all the stations until you find what you wanna hear.
thanks man.
oh can you run it without batteries? like just have it pluged into the USB charger and no batteries? peace
hey, can you also tune in a frequency and listen to it without saving it to a channel?
You would enter the weather frequency like any other frequency on the scanner.
Would this code 160.33500 fit into this scanner or is it too big or would I just not use the last two zeros ?
When you would program that frequency into your scanner you would just simply use the first six digits, 160.335.
Ok thanks :)
How many frequencies per bank ?? thanks.
Thanks man!
Well dude ill see what i can manage on getting there i do need to get more UP action on youtube since most of my stuff is either CN or NS
What's the difference between a priority channel and regular channel?
My Uncle's uniden scanner stopped working after cell tower was installed. So did my mother's radio shack scanner and other neighbors in small town. One person took theirs to Radio Shack to have it reprogrammed - it started working. But what about my uncle's uniden. Any solutions??
Thanks guy!!!! !!!

So when there is a radio frequency, is it necessary to put it in the same channel too ? trainweb.com/radio/freq.htm (Where it states the channel and radio frequency)

You might be able to but I don't know for sure.
The scanner has the word "SEARCH" and 6 dashes underneath. I can't get rid of this screen.

How do you remove a channel? I accidentally put the wrong one in.
+Jeremiah C Put 000.000 in on the channel you want to "remove."
You could even try a hard reset to return everything back to factory settings (although not recommended if you have quite a good number of freqs already programmed in), see this vid for how to do that:
ua-cam.com/video/T7N9qrpM_iI/v-deo.html

You have to add a station. When you first open up the scanner (after you buy it) all frequencies are set to 000.000 (aka nothing).
