    Hello once again. Thanks once again for your video. Just after I sent my comment I read further down a reply to someone else saying the MAC cannot use sentinel. Sorry about that. Yes, not thinking I pressed the “ wrong” knob and deleted my list of frequencies installed by our dealer here in Aust. So I’m learning fast, writing down a big list from “radio reference” I just need time. Thanks for your informative videos

    I did everything you did and said to do and I was able to program the new MASC's frequencies that my county Fire/Rescue are now using that was not on RadioReference when the scanner was preprogramed. I did get the frequencies intered under the name Fire, but I can't get them to scan along with all the other frequencies and that is what I need. I need to hear all the frequencies that have been preprogramed and the new ones that my county Fire/Rescue have went to.

      You are welcome... as confusing as the manual appears to be, I actually sat down and tried to figure it out, to some degree. It was difficult, but I managed to fill in a few gaps that I wasn't understanding...

    Very informative tutorials. A question. I have a new Uniden 436 and have been scanning for many years with Radio Shack previous scanner. I have successfully programmed a trunked system into a new favorites list and entered IDs and working well with the Sentinel software. How do I scan "only the programmed IDs in the trunk group" and not just in the ID search mode?

    I'm trying to program a p25 system (not conventional) and the menu is not the same. It only has TGID and I can't figure out how to put a frequency in. Conventional allows you to put a frequency in but in P25 there is not a "frequency" choice. How do I program frequencies?

    I’ve actually had more trouble using sentinel, I’m sure once you study it you’ll easily use it but for me it’s easier to just scroll through it instead of trying to use sentinel

    I am going to have to program my father-in-laws scanner Inna couple days and I'm trying to learn all I can and this is by far the most informative I've found. One thing I'm a little confused on is to know what system type. I mean if you set it on conventional will it just pick up all the digital frequency? I guess I don't understand what the p25 trunk, motorola etc.....is for. I know the small town he lives in is still analog but the next over just went all digital as well as county so will he be able to listen to analog and digital on this scanner or only digital?

    • @uniden436scanner6
      @uniden436scanner6  3 роки тому +1

      Yes... shouldn't be a problem... If it is an analog channel programmed, it will automatically reconize that, if digital, it will automatically see that too and receive in the digital mode. Smart little scanner... Usually the analog channels are in the 30.000 to 400.000 MHz range, the digital (P25, trunked systems etc) are in the 800.000 MHz range. Good luck !

  • @6548ww

    If you just want to listen to Police and fire or forestry you can just use the zip code option right?

    • @Burps___
      @Burps___ 4 роки тому +1

      Right.But you still need a PC (not Mac) to update the firmware and then the zip code database on the internal memory card before you do the zip code search, so the computer is almost unavoidable. THeN you can use zip code as you suggest, but it’ll load everything in your local area....perhaps 200 different things such as public works, the local lifeguard station at the swimming pool, the school bus dispatch, etc. Then you can delete or Avoid Permanently each of those that you don’t care about to whittle it down to the three you mention that you care about. 😂 Truth! OR, you can go to Broadcastify free website and listen to police and Fire (maybe not forestry, you’ll have to check) in your local area on your phone or tablet right now (unless it’s encrypted, in which case this scanner can’t pick it up either). Broadcastify dot com Good luck!

    I unfortunately cleared a number of dept’s on my 436 so now I know how to input frequencies. Thanks a lot. Do sentinel or radio reference data download to a Mac?

    • @uniden436scanner6
      @uniden436scanner6  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment... Sentinal is a software program that can be downloaded on your PC (unfortunately, not a Mac, unless you set up a Windows version on your Mac, which I neither encourage or suggest). From Sentinal you can download all the information and frequencies onto your scanner, via a USB cable.
      Radio Reference is a website, go there, www.radioreference.com, to see what freqs have been detected and identified in America, your state, your county, your city. Radio Reference, being just a website, is available on any computer, Windows or Mac.

    If monitoring a McDonald's, can you listen to the people talking to each other over the headsets? There is a "A" "B" and "C" button. A and C are for the drive thru lanes however if you hold the B button on the headset, the employee can talk to other headsets without the customer in the drive thru hearing it. Can this device detect that?

    • @uniden436scanner6
      @uniden436scanner6  5 років тому +2

      Don't really know for sure... Easiest way to find out is to load all McDonald's freqs in a favorite list, or use close call, and then sit in a McDonald's and listen.

    hey so I live in Sullivan county TN and they use the p25 phase two. Would this still be under FM conventional.

    • @uniden436scanner6
      @uniden436scanner6  3 роки тому

      Yes p25 phase 2 is a FM, not conventional, but trunked system,
      "Trunked" radio systems differ from "conventional" radio systems in that a conventional radio system uses a dedicated channel (frequency) for each individual group of users, while "trunking" radiosystems use a pool of channels which are available for a great many different groups of users.

    • @uniden436scanner6
      @uniden436scanner6  6 років тому +1

      Sentinal is a computer program that you can download and then use to program frequencies into the 436 and 536 Uniden scanners. You program what you want to hear into systems, departments, and channels, put them into favorite groups and then download to your scanner via a usb cable.
      Kind of a steep learning curve but pretty manageable program to use. Lots and lots of good tutorials on You Tube to be found.

    Great video, how do you do this with NXDN frequencies ?

    • @uniden436scanner6
      @uniden436scanner6  6 років тому +1

      Thanks for the comment.... I am not an expert by any measure, but I assume you would create new Favorite List, click 'review/edit system', choose NXDN as your system type and then continue to add your NXDN freqs...
      I don't have the NXDN upgrade as of yet but that seems the logical move...

    • @uniden436scanner6
      @uniden436scanner6  6 років тому +1

      I did find this...
      Confirming we are talking about programming NXDN, right? If a different system type, please start a new thread and I'll help you there.
      The starting steps are:
      MENU
      MANAGE FAVORITES
      NEW FAVORITES LIST (or select an existing one to use)
      (set the options - rename etc if you want)
      Select REVIEW/EDIT SYSTEM
      NEW SYSTEM
      Select the system type you want: NXDN TRUNK for trunking systems, NXDN OneFrequency for single frequency trunks, or Conventional for conventional channels.
      For conventional only, create a new Department, then within that new channel, then program teh frequency for that channel. Set the audio type as DIGITAL ONLY and set the RAN if known. Repeat for any additional channels.
      For NXDN OneFrequency, select EDIT SITE, add a new site, then select SET FREQUENCIES and enter the frequency. After that, set ID SCAN to ON or select EDIT DEPARTMENT, NEW DEPARTMENT, NEW CHANNEL, then enter the Talkgroups you want to scan.
      For NXDN TRUNK:
      select EDIT SITE, add a new site, then select SET FREQUENCIES and enter the frequencies for each LCN. If you don't know the LCN, just hit ENTER for now on that field. Repeat until all the site frequencies are entered. After that, set ID SCAN to ON or select EDIT DEPARTMENT, NEW DEPARTMENT, NEW CHANNEL, then enter the Talkgroups you want to scan.
      If you don't know the LCN, use LCN FINDER to find them as follows: (you will need to remember the System name you set above)
      In the menu, select ANALYZE then LCN FINDER. Hit ENTER and scroll to the system and select it, then select the SITE and LCN Finder will start. when it's done, it will let you know and you can set all the found LCNs.
      Now one word of caution here: IF there are frequencies that are not used, it will never find the LCN for them. But, it will give you the option of saving what it has found when you exit the LCN finder using FUNC-SYSTEM. It will ask if you want to save found LCNs. Select YES.
      The above should get you running.
      If you don't get all the LCNs, review what it HAS found. It might be obvious what the missing ones are. For example, if LCNs 1-5 are used except 3 and 4, and 1/2/5 are in descending order (or ascending), the pattern likely continues through 3 and 4. If it has found all except one, that one should be obvious. It's always possible they are using a frequency you don't have, but that is usually the exception and not the rule.
      hope that helps... i just upgraded to NXDM and it is confusing but workable

      If you go to the 'Database' tab, then to your state, then your county, the first listed groups are conventional freqs. They are generally 'FM' mode, but may be others. Below the conventional freqs is a grouping (which needs to be opened in another window) are the trunked freqs.
      Most conventional freqs are 'FM', and as such, are just one channel that is being used for that purpose. Although a lot of Law Enforcement, businesses, and others, may use several conventional channels for their use.

    Enjoyed the video and learned about the Systems, Department, and Channels. I think that naming frequencies channels is confusing, probably lost in the translation. But it is good to know that frequencies can be programmed into the scanner. I would have preferred the older programming with banks. I appreciate that this video the beeps were lower in volume. But I would have liked if the beeps had been turned off as they add nothing to the presentation but noise. Annoying!

      Yes this whole system is a big departure from before... The upside is the scanner can hold a whole lot more freqs than previous models, and using a favorites list seems to be easier to me at least. I just create a favorite list, put in all law enforcement, then create another favorite list, put in all fire etc etc and then pick and choose what I want to listen to. Sorry about the beeps, will try to do better next time hahaha
