What I see here is two angry, overwhelmed parents that learned that their son murdered a 13 year-old girl. You never know what you would do or say if your child ended up being a killer. You may think you do, but you don't. This isn't something you prepare for, like the discussion about underage drinking or watching pornography. They love their son. They're only capable at this moment, of thinking about how his decision will affect his life, and the lives of their family. Their brains won't allow them to focus on the victim, because they are PARENTS, who have to try and talk to their child about something they never could've possibly imagined they'd have to talk about. I picture my parents. What would they say to me or one of my siblings if they'd just learned that we'd done something so heinous and evil? A normal parent can't just fall out of love with their child at the drop of a hat! Of course they're focused on him: he's their SON. I cannot blame these parents for the things they said at such a bizarre and gut-wrenching air strike of a moment! Their son is to blame, and only he. Teens become very good at hiding who they really are, particularly from their parents, because this is a stage of development where their primary influences are NOT their parents anymore. They become different people, and sometimes, very rarely, the people they become are horrific.
