I had an IEP bc of my dyslexia. I now have a 3.8 in university and hope to become a doctor. An IEP doesn’t mean you’re stupid. It just means you have a learning disability. But not all learning disabilities are ones that cause a low IQ either… so so SO many kids have IEP for multiple different reasons. Him being an IEP kid has NOTHING to do with him being a psychopath and quite frankly I’m offended and disgusted that his IEP is even being brought up as an excuse for his actions.
Edit: To all of you replying, y’all do realize the ONLY reason this was even mentioned was because they’re trying to spin it as a reason he could’ve gone crazy and killed the girl. He also has brown hair. No one’s mentioning that because it has NOTHING to do with ANYTHING. And NEITHER does is IEP. Yet they’re STILL bringing it up! Why? Because his lawyer is trying to spin his IEP as a reason to why he may be disturbed. So pleas spare me. I am not making a “logical fallacy”. Just an objective observation.

IEP just means the student has SOME medical diagnosis that affects learning. No one is saying that IEP= being a psychopath. You’re committing a logical fallacy by inferring that. I’m a teacher and I also had an IEP. And you’re right, it has nothing to do with intelligence. I graduated HS and college with honors. The lawyer is just doing his job here. If that question bothers you then please don’t take offense but you may not wanna watch trials and def not true crime.

Thank you Kate Ashby for saying it for people who don't realise.
The lawyer is just doing his job,he has to defend his client eventhough it's very hard especially if he knows this person did do the crime like Aiden here. If the lawyer does not do his job properly there can be call for a mistrial which nobody wants. It is everyone's right to have representation. This is what democracy is about, after all if you were being prosecuted despite not being guilty of a crime, would you not want your lawyer to do his job to the best of his ability. I hope this makes sense.
Having said that i do understand and yes it is frustrating.

The teacher & the psychiatrist both made the distinction that intellectual ability was there, it was motivation & aggressive, argumentative, cocky behaviour that were the issues. The sports teacher also said he was physically aggressive to other students & argumentative with the sports teacher. As an ex teacher they are the most difficult because you know they're capable of more but they just can't or won't co operate. It is a modified and assisted means of providing information to a student to better their understanding and dissimilating their ability to complete a task. I had an IEP. And I can say without a doubt that those in IEP it is not a personality issue. It’s to help the part of your brain that cannot learn certain things basically. Whether that be actual school work, learning to listen, etc. it is not a behavioral help. Aiden had an IEP and had learning disabilities. But that did MOT cause him to murder this poor girl. People in my school thought those like me with IEPs were like kids in psych wards basically. We were treated differently when really our mentality and our personalities were normal but our learning function was not. If someone had a behavioral issue they were sent to a different person that specializes in that. I can’t process mathematics like a normal person can. I cannot understand understand math past a 3rd grade level. But I went to college, I have a great job. People with IEP’s learn patience, confidence, hard work, and kindness. Aiden was violent, he had issues and it was overlooked. I had a kid in my IEP group the same way. Attention was always on him and taken from us. He later tried to shoot the school up. Aiden never should have been put in IEP but something a lot more advanced that can help with his learning disabilities but also his behavior.

In Florida, every student with a disability who is eligible for exceptional student education (ESE) services will have an IEP. An IEP is a written plan for the special education of a student with a disability. Some ESE students are in smaller classrooms only with other ESE students; sometimes they attend classes with the general population of the school (and often an aide is there with them then). The details of how these kinds of accommodations to learning are decided upon and implemented vary from from state to state. They are not about "motivating" students and I think she was not happy with the questions she was being asked - to me they were clearly manipulated to make it sound like an IEP student is always not motivated and needs to "be motivated" which is totally untrue. Or that every kid who argues with a teacher gets reported to higher ups, also totally untrue. ESE teachers (they are called SPED in my state) are often amazing people with beautiful classroom management skills. I also know that some students are very adept at hiding personal stuff from adults, especially 14 yos. So no, I don't think she is lying. I think she knows how little most people know about ESE or SPED classrooms and it makes her cautious.

I see people saying that some are just born evil. I don´t think so - unless there is some severe brain damage, which very, very rarely is.
Making children feel they are unloved and slapping, choking and punching them around is a sure way of doing A LOT of damage.
It´s the parents, maybe especially the bio father. Combined of course with some specific traits in Aiden that got activated through the abuse he received: not all abused children commit horrid crimes (but many do become violent themselves though.) Please people. stop hitting your kids as a disciplinary action, it only makes things worse and harms them for life.

An IEP is a tool that schools use to help catch students who are in a position of falling behind their peers academically.

He said they never talked about anything but schoolwork, that's very poor rapport, because family life affects schoolwork. Secondly the friend who he confided in, why was it not clear to her that anyone talking about murdering someone is a red flag, do they not educate these kids on signs of depression, violence etc.? I find it appalling that these two key areas were so blatantly missed. Thirdly, there could have been some periodic home visits as the pic I saw of the playroom was outrageous, and would have been a huge red flag that something was not right in the home. To expect a pre-teen to recognize signs of mental illness, whether taught them or not, isn’t fair.

I didn't have an IEP but A 504 plan. I had classes with alot of students who did have IEPs. This doesn't mean you're stupid and definitely doesn't have anything to do with wanting or becoming a killer.

Unfair to blame the teacher.Millions of kids have special needs, and he was one of many that she had to deal with.

I’ll bet he had a sleeping disorder. Which effects hormones and penal gland. It can be a big factor with neurological development.
Also being pegged as having iep can have a major effect on your self esteem and if you aren’t being understood , can make one be resentful may come across as cocky . When children commit crimes I can’t help but feel it’s the parents and the environment that created the problem.

I was down grounded in elementary school in special Ed class illegally just so they could het funding so I thought I was less intelligent than I really was I have learning disabilities but they downgrade me and said that my IQ is 50 every took the IQ test when I was an adult ads above-average I can join the Mensa IQ group in England if I wanted I realize this when my Aunt Sharon created one of my papers cuz she was helping me with my homework and she's a teacher herself or disabled students at a different School and then I fully realized it when I finally went to a different school and I started getting good grades and when from these enough to A's and B's and then I moved back down to that town and I saw one of previous special ed that taught me in elementary school and she admitted to me they purposely downgraded me to get more funding that I definitely had learning disabilities but not as bad as they said and they accommodated me but even though I did really good they downgraded means that I did bad so I thought I was really stupid for the longest time I kept calling myself stupid and my aunt had to bring up my confidence and tell me that I'm not stupid she said that she heard me name all the bones in the body and there's a lot of them and I would memorize scientific names for trees and animals and said you're IQ is not 50 not that I'm judging anybody with a low IQ but I'm just saying as corruption in schools so hope this info helps others and I heard that and Aiden fucci was not passing his classes by another I wonder if they're downgrading him to
