I have the gold card, it’s definitely the better card for every day purchases. Especially if you eat out a lot. The travel benefits from the platinum card really aren’t worth it in my opinion.
My only problem with the gold card is that Walmart and target does not qualify as a supermarket. Only the neighborhood ones do. I have to use the blue business plus at a Walmart supercenter.
I have had the Platinum AMEX for 35 years and once in London before 2000 we had to move hotels (just flew in, rooms were really bad) and at 8AM London time I called Plat AMEX and asked them to change my hotel and they did, we got a fantastic room upgrades and a free night (family was staying a week). They also got us dinner reservations and philaharmonic tickets during Christmas (almost impossible) Never looked back. Loyal customer forever.

Ehhhh the Amex gold is better for daily use with 4x dining and grocery but the plat has way more benefits for travel
