Overall I thought it was more for bragging rights than an actual benefit and with the new fees and my age I thought I don’t need the bragging anymore. Happy with the plat.
I would be curious to see if Amex introduces a card in between the Plat and Centurion. I know there was some talk precovid about maybe a $1500 AF card, if this hypothetical card was invite only and maybe offered Delta Silver, Hilton Diamond, Marriott Platinum along with credits like $300 Airline, $300 FHR, TSA, CLEAR. Sure it's a coupon book but I think there could be a market for HENRYs (high earners, not rich yet) in non target cities like the midwest with remote work taking off. 🐎
@@billwright2176 They need to offer points for dining. It makes no sense that a travel card does not have that. I am sure they know people like to dine when they travel.
The Centurion card is clearly the Birkin Bag of cards. It seems like Amex likely cares more about the total numbers of cards in circulation than anything else. So, yes, it seems likely that they adjust for inflation and probably slightly for economic downturns too.
@@AskSebby That's crazy. God forbid you dont drink champagne, Jimmie walker and eat caviar, lobster or kobe beef burgers daily. Yes, had the business Centurion for a long time...didn't think I was getting the value from it so went back to the Platinum, then was invited for the personal Centurion which I accepted and really like many of the perks.....my favorite is no lines and always a guaranteed seat in the Centurion Lounge at airports, can't tell you how many times I have been at the airport and a flight is delayed for some reason and the terminal is extremely busy with no where to sit, let alone eat and drink and be productive. What American Express should do is put up a list of global perks and allow the individual cardholder to select what they want from what's available. Not everyone lives in California, New York, London, or the like. Hence, forcing things like Equinox, Saks, Harrods, etc. will be useless to a lot of members. The ability to tailor the service to cater to the needs of the individual would go down better with a lot of people. You don't have/need Equinox, then you are not getting to take full advantage of the service. Having the ability to swap that for foreign airline status, free hotel nights, Amazon credit or whatever offsets & equalize things by allowing every single holder to maximise the benefits for their own particular need.
NYC address (but Queens). ~500k spend, ~100k on watches (Richemont mostly since the big hype began) and ~100k on typical apparel that leans luxury but also lots of more regular stuff (Proper Cloth etc.) Rest almost entirely travel including fancy restaurants, flights (I actually buy mostly main cabin domestically), and hotels (mostly Ws/equivalents with some Ritz/Regis thrown in). Most (80+%) is work driven that I expensed but AMEX probably doesn't know/care.
They're making a lot of money from aspirational people paying large fees for benefits they won't use. They'll never filter it as they do with the Centurion
Interesting analysis. By the way, not everyone who has a Centurion, is graceful with money. I work for an antique store in NY. One lady purchased a little dish for $500. She bargained endlessly to pay $50 less. I couldn't quite believe it when she paid with an AmEx Centurion.
Honestly a great video- I’ve been putting less and less per annum on the Amex. I get too much value off of my other cards, and being in miami I think giving Amex this much loyalty doesn’t give me the value that I want. If they offer it to me I will take it, but I’m not chasing- just making the best decision for my points. I get much more value stacking the CSR and the Hyatt for globalist as well as the venture x for other travel partners. Still spending quite a bit with the Amex but there’s no way I use them internationally for restaurants or hotels when csr gives me 3x per dollar
I saw this mystical card out in the wild just the other day. Some rich lady from Monterrey, MX was using it to buy fast food, and in my pavo mind, I was like "how dare you." I was so close to wealth and she was using hers to buy cheap and super unhealthy food. 😭

Great video. Q: If my spend is on knockoffs can I get a knockoff Amex? I drive a BNW, my watch is a Robex, and my suits are either Hugo Ross or Jojo Arnami. That should be enough to get me a Senturion Amex?
🐎 I don’t see me ever getting an invite, and I’m fine with that. Even if my wife and I combined our spending I doubt we would ever get one. But she prefers the CSR.
I spoke to amex in 2017 directly and they said that over 150-200 if you dont get it thats because you were over using the benefits. Honestly its not worth it.
My friend has it but I have no idea what the requirements were for him to get it, he owns a massive beer and liquor distribution company so they spend a lot in general.
I have a slightly different viewpoint from reading the FT threads and other DP gathered. I don't think the annual spend for the personal Centurion is that high. Its more like $300-500k annually depending on other factors. Those other factors are type of spend (doesn't have to be luxury spend), how long you have been a card member, consistency of spend, and overall credit. Note workarounds are a Private Wealth relationship with Goldmans and probably Morgan Stanley, where your assets can offset spend requirements. Amex is walking a fine line with type of spend. Say someone spends $500K plus annually but not on luxury items, hence not extending an invite. You could alienate that card member.
The parabolic curve of wealth and status along with luxury brand status definitely puts this Amex user from the Intermountain west out of this 🐎horse race for card recognition. I’ll happily stick with my Platinum and Amex Hilton spend to upgrade my travel experience.
A lot of comments miss the point. The value is not equinox or whatever. Are you some coupon cutter? It’s when you are buying something expensive you flash the card and the salesperson knows you are serious.
Card color as a status symbol (as this is what we are really talking about here) is a bit silly and something you should probably grow out of.. In my late 20's, early 30's (35 yrs ago!) I went through the Amex Gold, Platinum, Centurion card hierarchy as my career developed. The cards were much rarer and hard to acquire at the time. When I was 45 ish it occurred to me it was all a bit silly - a big boys version of "Top Trumps" so I went back to a basic green card - though you could argue that was a bit of reverse snobbery of course! I also sold my Rolex for the same reason - though that was a bit stupid given how their values appreciated...
Amex cards: the original NFT. Can't believe there's a forum and UA-cam channel for people strategically spending not to any benefit other than being able to show that you carry a certain card. What a vapid existence.
Barring hitting a jillion dollar lottery prize, or a long-shot trifecta in a 🐎 race, I'll never be a candidate for Centurion because I just don't have the right amount or type of spend. I do find that Platinum gives me good value, so I am happy to pay that fee even if I never set foot in Equinox and don't shop at Saks.
I do have the card and i did get the invite in 2021, it is a personal version, I am in NY City area, I do not agree with your thoughts on how much you need to spend to get the card invite. But i love your videos. You are the one who got me interested in centurion card and then after 4 years of spending with amex, i was invited.
On personal? I spend that in a couple months on my business platty. I travel all over the world and go to some fancy restaurants. But it’s mostly business expenses.
horse emoji…lol. I just got back into the AMEX ecosystem. I was surprised to get a Platinum personal card with my credit score in the 650s. I immediately applied for a Gold as well but got denied. I waited 30 days and reapplied for the Gold. I got it. My avg. credit score had come up to about 680.
I had a call with an Amex rep a while back booking a flight and I’m 19 he said if I kept spending like this on my card in a few years I might be invited. My spend is around 90k per calendar year because I put my tuition on it. I honestly think being famous or really being with them for a long time is the only way but platinum is already good just know people it’s free and you will probably get more than what the black card can give you. I just want the wearable card they have lol
Look into the cost and fees of maintaining the card. Your “spend” is synthetic, they’d downgrade you after your first year, assuming you could afford the initiation fees to begin with.
@@Bad4Good2 fair enough but I feel like once your in they don’t take it away from you even if you don’t spend anything. + I use equinox and travel a lot so I would most likely use the card still
@@sunynihalani9514If you weren’t regularly meeting the requirements to have the card, they would definitely product change you. 🐎Hey Sebby, would love your advice! Business owner here - I've just started making the move into the Chase umbrella. Previously, my BofA AA card was the daily personal driver, and Barclays Hawaiian Airlines Business card was the daily business driver. I've made the decision to move everything to Chase. I've had the Sapphire Preferred card for almost 5 years now, but it has sat in my night stand to act as an emergency card. So I'll start using that as my everyday personal, and then I applied for and got the Ink Unlimited for the everyday business card. My goals are related to value of redemption. I like the idea of being able to apply points/miles to more than one thing, travel being at the top of that list, compared to only either AA or HA. My question for you is, which should I get next? Ink Cash? Or Ink Preferred? I am the type of guy who would go to Staples and buy a bunch of Visa Gift cards (at 5x for the first $25k annually) and just make regular purchases with that, just to take advantage of the 5x multiplier. Any advice would be great! Cheers!

I’m also getting the welcome bonus on the plat here soon as well. Thanks for all your help!
Great video. Q: If my spend is on knockoffs can I get a knockoff Amex? I drive a BNW, my watch is a Robex, and my suits are either Hugo Ross or Jojo Arnami. That should be enough to get me a Senturion Amex?
😂LMAO😂!
LOL there are plenty of knock off custom metal card companies 😉
Well done in every respect !Outstanding on every level !. Well done in every respect !Outstanding on every level !.
🐎 Great summary video. Any chance they will make a card between the Platinum and the Centurion?
If the black card had bronze text it would be beautiful.
🐎 I don’t see me ever getting an invite, and I’m fine with that. Even if my wife and I combined our spending I doubt we would ever get one. But she prefers the CSR.
watching this as a centurion member myself, they are for sure not looking for the amount of spend but the type of spend.
Right. $500k a year on non-luxury items. On mcdonalds, starbucks, and economy class tickets.
@@Michael-iw3ek disposable income spend is spend…
@@calisteve2023 ... how do you spend over $1000 per day and avoid luxury items?
The parabolic curve of wealth and status along with luxury brand status definitely puts this Amex user from the Intermountain west out of this 🐎horse race for card recognition. I’ll happily stick with my Platinum and Amex Hilton spend to upgrade my travel experience.
🐎Wow......that annual fee! I take that cash, buy a piece of land instead! Not looking status, looking smart investments. I rather buy AMEX stocks!
A lot of comments miss the point. The value is not equinox or whatever. Are you some coupon cutter? It’s when you are buying something expensive you flash the card and the salesperson knows you are serious.
They need a card in between the Platium and the Black card Just my humble thought.
🏇Thanks for the info!
Love this video Sebby! 🐎
Thanks :)
I mean this card with Minsheng bank in China is like save 1M USD cash with them, they will give it to your for 1 year free.
meanwhile where I live most high end places do not accept amex, two sides to every coin I guess
🐎 respect for the amount of research you did
I am not sure why anyone would want this card? It seems one is spending a lot of money each year and on the initial investment for a card. 🐎
Call me, Amex 20 year employee. You are close but only by 50%.
I do have the card and i did get the invite in 2021, it is a personal version, I am in NY City area, I do not agree with your thoughts on how much you need to spend to get the card invite. But i love your videos. You are the one who got me interested in centurion card and then after 4 years of spending with amex, i was invited.
You do not have the card. I looked into it
Hope they change the plat fee to 2000, it’s too common
🐎 Great video. I’ve had the card since 2016
I'd love to get the black card one day, but I'm not gonna bend over backwards to try and get it
🐎🐎🐎
I got mine in the UK - 4 years ago. I would say it was about 700k a year spend for 4/5 years before i got invite
On personal? I spend that in a couple months on my business platty. I travel all over the world and go to some fancy restaurants. But it’s mostly business expenses.
Basically you need to be in the $50M class or higher to get the invite.
horse emoji…lol.
You also run the risk of financial reviews, and you should ask yourself if a $5k annual fee card would even make sense. Realistically, the black card isn’t even for people who earn six figures. I think it’s a great goal to have though, best of luck.
🐎 LOVE YOU
I'm still waiting for Credit card 😮
🐎 Nice breakdown!
🐎
I always wonder how people have so much luxury spend.
There's a finite amount of luxury bags, watches, & bespoke clothes before the cost per wear isn't worth it.
Like I understand 1st class flights, Michelin star meals.
Awesome Video
Cheers!
🐎 great content as always, i think I'll probably always be capped at the platinum lol
Posit, I’m the old money guy creating the new money trap. Welcome.
🐎 great review.
AmEx Platinum issued outside the US is more powerful than a Centurion card issued in the US
Amex should make a platinum / gold all in one . Make it $1,000 annual fee! Im in ! (No need multiple cards)
I have reserve is it better to get Amex platinum or gold or reserve is fine ? What is credit line on gold and platinum cards thx excellent information!!! Do you have one on these cards or recommend something else
🐴- thanks for the vid :)
We have one ! and we love it. We can tell how we got it. we have more data than that
Back in 2005 I used to work at restaurant in wealthy suburbs of Boston. Some customers had it then and they had no clue it was an exclusive card
a symbol of wealth and prestige!
🐎 I appreciate your insight of this card but this is for the movers and shakers 💰
not much use in uk , don't think many stores take it ....
