When the cheery music shows up it really makes you put everything else into perspective, these kids were having fun, they were normal teens and they had their life stripped away, it's just so heartbreakingly warm to see them recreate what was possibly their last most joyful moments as the show ends at the beginning...
But they lived for 17 years still... nothing was stripped because they lived and that is what is important
@@queenmarshmallow8013 true, but they lost so much potential. Poor Jane never even got the chance to be, while the others did
@@queenmarshmallow8013 they were still young asf they weren't even 25 yet
@@Rocket.gutsss I'm 17 and feel like I've lived for a very long time all ready. And I was saying that the takeaway from the musical is that sure it's sad they died so young but also don't forget that they lived. Because without one you can't have the other
@@queenmarshmallow8013 "We got a chance to live... she didnt." - Ocean, talking about Jane
I like how the “it’s just a ride” lyric only climbs the scale, it doesn’t descend, like the opposite of Jane Doe’s descending chromatic motif.
Its actually really cool, because it only climbs the scale, and doesnt descend, because the descending represents crashing or falling!
My friend died today. He was crossing the crosswalk when a truck hit him. This was one of his favorite musicals. All I can think of now is this musical, this song. I hope you're not scared or hurt anymore Terry, we all love you.
Dude, I am so sorry for your loss..

@@Girl_kisser6969 Thank you very much. Today has been better, still sad, but I think we're all in a better mindset. 🙂
I'm SO sorry for your loss, i hope you can get through this
His final insight in the show is supposed to be scary/disappointing/tragic as he "dies" and loses his ability to communicate, but I like it better this way- delivered with absolute, quiet sincerity for the audience to contemplate. I wish it were performed this way with every production. (Followed by his "shocking" death, of course- the brutality of sudden death is something the rest of the musical kind of glosses over so I feel like that moment is important.) After all, he deals in "cryptic prophecies that make no sense, until they actually do".
!!! SPOILER ALERT !!!
Remember "The one who wants it most will redeem the loser"? Yeah, that was "Ocean will end up choosing and will choose Jane Doe"
Maybe their is no final insight except random luck (your lucky number is 7,) our infinite possiblites (you will srowe to great hights) and inevitable "death" (be sure to ride the cyclone)
@@pdtrx4900 Well the kids definitely soared to great heights! :D
I read somewhere that "be sure to ride the Cyclone" is metaphorically saying "be sure to enjoy life." Because the show constantly uses similar language to describe the experience on the Cyclone and the sensations of the world of the living.
@@PanzerIVAE bruh too soon😭😭
This song always makes me cry, especially when they play Penny’s life on the projector. Cause damn, that hurts emotionally. And then when the music starts to pick up and they first say “It’s Just a Ride” and they shout in joy rather than fear I start crying in earnest because they’re just kids!!! They’re just little kids who wanted to ride a roller coaster…
Penny?
@@blacksheep1924 Jane Doe’s real name is Penny Lamb.
@@Bliffenstimmers oh how beautiful
@@Bliffenstimmers Finally, we know! 🤩
Ikr its just so sad
I love how when they start saying "it's just a ride" they sound so happy, and content with accepting and moving on, and happy with Penny for living,
I will never cease to get emotional at 4:58 I swear to Karnak. Like all the kids are singing their last lines before moving on for good and then Jane comes back in with the dream of life and it just combines into the most emotional ending that I’ve ever seen
(Sorry for the lack of grammar lol)
Same here 😭😭😭
I wish they kept the part that goes 'you might live for a day or eternity. There's no time for a judge or referee, no one will measure. How hard we tried'
That was my favorite part 😢
I thought the ballad of Jane doe was the song to get me crying but this one is the one that started the water works
Jane’s ballad is pretty tragic tho
I think Jane does ballad is more about loss and confusion whereas this songs overarching idea of acceptance (“and the world will keep on spinning”) is much more heart breaking cause you know there isn’t anything after it.
Mine was constance's monologue, birthday got me almost there and then her monologue killed me
I like to think that when you hear Jane at the end, it's Penny coming back after she dies for real and greeting her old friends
Imo I feel like Jane now being Penny still singing even though she’s back alive is like saying thank you or something .
And to me it’s like maybe she won’t forget the choir somehow.
I love how when they sing “it’s just a ride” they go up each time with their vocals when they sing the word “ride” and then there is a dip in their vocals toward the end. Like they are going up on a roller coaster and then they dip down. That’s probably my favorite small detail in this musical.
I started to cry because, the realization that they accept their death and repeat their deaths again, and go who knows where. After letting Penny to live again
I imagined that maybe they say it’s just a ride because they want penny to join them, and she doesn’t. So saying it’s “just a ride” would comfort her and make her feel better.
Sameeeeee
[LYRICS "It's Not A Game"]
It's not a game
Maybe that's news
Cause no one will win here
And no one will lose
There's no one to measure
Our foolish pride
And no one keeps score
Of how hard we tried
This ride, it has heartbreak
This ride, it has pain
All kinds of blue skies
No shortage of rain
Yes, there is laughter
And the telling of lies
And maybe in darkness
We open our eyes
And you give and choose
While you love and lose
And you feel the world is spinning
With no ending or beginning
You just take a look around
Take a look around
Take a look around
And round and round and round
[KARNAK] (spoken)
And now you're probably wondering,
"What happens next?"
That I couldn't possibly tell you.
But I will say this,
after reading thousand of human fortunes,
my final insight is-
Your lucky number is 7
You will soar to great heights
Be sure to ride The Cyclone
[LYRICS "It's Just A Ride"]
We're just sailing through space
There's no up or down
So beautiful and strange
But it's more than spinning round
Yes it's everything you loved
And everything you dreamed
And everything you shared
And everything that seemed so
Oh so terrifying
But it's not a game it's not a game
(Oh no no)
It's not a game it's not a game
It's just a ride
It's just a ride
We're all just sailing through space
There's no up there's no down
It's all so beautiful and strange
but so much more than spinning round
Yes it's everything you loved
And everything you dreamed
And everything you shared
And everything that seemed so
Oh so terrifying turning round
It's just a ride
It's just a ride
And the world will keep on spinning
With no ending or beginning
So just take a look around
Take a look around

And round and round and round
I know this dream of life is never ending
It goes around and round and round again
Never knew what Karnak said, LOL. Thank you for this!
My father just died today. This and Sugar Cloud have been playing on repeat in my mind since the drive to the emergency room last night. The re is nothing to fear in death, especially when that death ends suffering. I will miss him despite the hurt he has caused me. I will take a look around and cherish the time I have with my siblings. It's all we have, and it's enough.
I'm sorry for your loss, even when people have hurt us, we still mourn them and feel sadness over their departure. I hope you've found peace in your father absence 🤍

My favorite line in the entire show is Karnaks last insight. “Your lucky number is 7. You will soar to great heights, be sure to ride the cyclone” it really just wraps up the entire story and is actually great insight to be honest. It makes me laugh.
The piano in the background of the beginning almost sounds straight outta the Spiritfarer soundtrack, and... oof, thinking about Spiritfarer and Ride the Cyclone together is absolutely shattering my heart.
Oh crud I hear it too.
[Stares into distance]
Just started it, and I've heard it gets pretty teary later on so I am both scared and exited
FUCK BRO NOT SPIRITFARER-
Finally saw this shows slime tutorial today and when it got to the final portion of this song, I teared up for like the 3rd time of this show. This time of how gorgeous the music was and how legitimately profound this message was. Life indeed is a ride, so to go through the harsh trauma these kids went through with their deaths and having to decide who gets to live again and seeing the violent death of their guide throughout the show. For them to all come to accept their deaths and enjoy this ride, brought a smile to my face. This show is brilliant, I love it so much. Will be listening to this show for years to come.
Do you know where someone else might find this slime tutorial? Asking for a friend
@@thefloralpunk ua-cam.com/video/-vngq4iPlWc/v-deo.htmlsi=gxwh3xhAixzEdAKl
Late but here
Mk now I have a theory about this song. So at the end when Jane sings in the musical, the kids move the opposite way on the rotating platform as they did when they "died", and they moved towards the spiral light that I like to think of as "the portal to life" since it was visible when the final decision was being made. Then, they stand in a position where it looks like their on a roller coaster with their hands up. Next, I belive the lights slightly brighten and roller coaster sounds are heard. I belive this symbolizes they all came back to life with no knowledge of the accident and that their fair experience resumed as normal. The only people who truly died are Karnak and Virgil.
I have listened to around 50 Musicals so far, and none have made me cry before this one. I wept in the dark after the crash for a long time.
Man, this musical is such an emotional rollercoaster that has gone off the rails
GET OUT...
phone. Table. NOW
I feel like at the end where the tune changes back to karnaks dream of lifes you get hit with the realization that they were really just kids. Some might say it was when the drums kicked in but for me it was then when i realized they were really just children and we shouldnt rush life.
Which is why I want to die on a roller coaster.
It it just me that finds it so sad when Ocean says “cause no one will win here, and no one can loose. There’s no one to measure, our foolish pride, and no one keeps score, of how hard we tried.” In her song (‘What the World Needs’) she is referencing her friends as 0’s and asking “well isn’t someone keeping score,” and saying “some of us are winners some are born to loose.” It’s so bittersweet to hear her sing about how all her pride was “foolish,” because, in the end, no one really cared how hard she tried.
i just finished the full musical. it was all so silly and enjoyable. talia and sugar cloud made me kinda sad. its like watching a bright messy of colours and stars and sparks. after they disappeared i was like, sort of frozen and shocked. i felt sweaty and also cold. i didnt really feel anything apart from a vague ache in my chest. this musical is amazing oh my god
Ok seriously why do I start crying when the beat picks up
Maybe because it implies an unending time loop
Same. For me it's because they sounded so fucking happy and that's the way it should've been. They were kids, they should've been enjoying their lives, but instead their day of fun ended so tragically filled with fear. Also... the song, for me, symbolizes them accepting their deaths and just reminiscing their last moment of happiness, this time without the fear or panic.
@@severigne_m7652 It's that moment when you know they can see the light and there ready
Does anyone else always get chills at 3:37????
SAME and it plays over and over in my head at random points in the day
yep.
I can't help but cry every time this song comes up on my playlist. My eyes started watering up just typing this.
I remember reading an article when I looked up the show. It was a critique; and the biggest takeaway I had from that critique was that the author didn't understand the show. They asked "is the show trying to tell us that life is a jawbreaker? or that life is amazing and wonderful?" And I think of this song. Life is supposed to be a ride; with all of its ups, down, highs, lows, loop-de-loops; even if the ride breaks, they'll fix it and open it again.
All you need to do is replace "It's" with "Life's" in the song title to understand what this show is truly about.
When the drums kick in, I start dancing
I love 3:38 where the music imitates tracks of a rollercoaster, such a lovely detail
I think a lot of people forget throughout the musical that these kids literally died. While listening i keep forgetting but once i remember it changes everything and makes it ten times sadder
I keep coming back to this song for other stories. 2:40 and later are one of my daydreaming-an-animatic staples.
sameee more on the part of animatic staples always thinking how to make animation for all this songs
hey nice pfp
This song is so tear jerking.
They like accepted their deaths and moved on..,.,
ur actually so right this made me feel like crying
3:39 I love this musical so much, it’s funny, it’s devastating but it’s happy. They all end up content and at peace no matter if they’re alive or not and they are happy Penny gets to go live her life I get so emotional at this scene, seeing them dance about, seeing Penny’s life. It’s just such a great musical I can’t describe it in words.
I cannot express with words how comforting yet painful this song is
At the end of the show it almost seems like the entire choir ends getting to live, is that true? I want them all to live...
no, they just recreate their last joyful moments, which brings us back to the beginning of the show. which creates a beautiful reference to the theme, which is the looping of time 🥹
And spoiler alert
Jane doe lives
Unfortunately no, they just finish the loop in the afterlife and they choose to celebrate moving on rather than mourn their passing.
it's open-ended so sure
There is a theory that they didn’t even die. The whole show is the “life flashing before your eyes” moment with each of the characters reflecting on each other’s lives just as the ride is about to break down. It kind of makes sense and I think it explains the character of Jane Doe a bit better as someone who didn’t actually lose their head, but was a member of the choir no one payed attention to. Thus, no one could identify her. I think it also explains how the characters could go back if chosen. While I’ll admit it is not a perfect theory, I think it works especially when you notice that you hear the Cyclone crash at the beginning of the show, but not at the end when they are recreating the moment.
This song and this whole scene with Penny going to the light and her life playing on the projector always makes me sob.
when they played Penny’s life on the projector 😭
2:40 gives me chills every time and makes me wanna cry. Idk why, it's just so pretty
ikr, the harmonies are so amazing
The musical is basically a ride itself(Hence the name), it means to enjoy your life and it's like an infinite loop cycle, that's why in the end Jane Doe sings Karnak's dream of life again. Its a really powerful thing once you really think about it
I love how it’s screams of joy and there not in denial any more
“and you feel the world is spinning, with no ending or beginning.”
This better be playing at my funeral
“It goes around and round and round again”
They were at the top of the loop when the coaster detached. They never even got to finish the full circle. So they’re endlessly going round and round, no end in sight, cause they never got one.
I got the chance to see a live production of this yesterday. I've watched the slime tutorial multiple times and it always makes me get choked up, especially this song. But yesterday? Maybe it was the live theatre and getting to connect with the actors, maybe I was particularly vulnerable, but I started sobbing during Constance's monolog and didn't stop till the end
I kinda can see them running towards The Cyclone as they say: "It's just a ride" as if to reassure themselves that...They'll be...Fine
Is Karnak's final insight the fortune he told the kids? That was my interpretation (You will soar to great hights, be sure to ride the Cyclone) but couldn't figure out the lucky number 7
In the show, he gets killed by that bass playing rat guy after he says that final fortune. But yes, it is his final insight. I think the 7 means nothing.
I think the seven are the all dead. The six Saints and Karnak.
'Born April 7th, Aries, the lucky nature." It's just pointing out that Penny/Jane is the lucky one. She got a new life, he's just cementing that fact
I’m pretty sure it was foreshadowing for Jane Doe’s real identity: “Her name is Penny Lamb. Born April 7th, Aries. The lucky nature.” The 7th was her birthday and the fact she was chosen to be resurrected deems her the lucky one.
I know it's stupid, But I once I heard "7 rhymes with heaven.", So I'm just going to assume that 'heaven' means death, the most logical explanation I have I guess.
I was recently in this show with an all high school aged cast. I played the amazing Karnak. I cannot listen to this song anymore without crying. The show had a fantastic run and the cast is basically my second family now 😭😭
I have been!! Searching for this musical for so long, I saw it years ago when it toured in Seattle and I’ve been desperately trying to find a cast album since then. This makes me so happy god !
If one day i die of a tragic death, i want karnac to make me accept this like he's make accept it to these children. It's my only wish.
It really sounds like they're all accepting the fact theyre dead. Love this song sm bfnsvsb
Death is a scary experience, whether you’ve had a loved one pass on, or you’ve experienced near death yourself.
I don’t remember my first near death experience, I was only a toddler when the doctor told my mom I had no chance of survival. But, everytime I think about it, I start to cry because I think about how I could’ve missed out on life if I went that soon. I experienced a lot of trauma as a kid, sure, but the others in my life are the reason I keep going, I’m glad to have met them all and I hope to one day see the ones that are already gone again.
Life is short, just try to make the best of it as much as you can.
im feeling emotions rn
"The world is like a ride in an amusement park. And when you choose to go on it you think it’s real because that’s how powerful our minds are. And the ride goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it’s very brightly colored and it’s very loud and it’s fun, for a while.
Some people have been on the ride for a long time and they begin to question: 'Is this real, or is this just a ride?'
And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say: 'Hey, don’t worry, don’t be afraid, ever, because this is just a ride.'
And we kill those people."
- Bill Hicks
One thing I love is that you can hear Jane Doe/Penny singing along with all of them at some parts of the song, it's like she's finally really part of the choir
what it feels to graduate from high school or university
I think this is my favorite closing act to a musical ever :')
This summer I was able to perform this song in a musical medley with a bunch of other people my age. I’m just reminiscing on how good 2023 was for a year and for the great time I had, and this was the year I started to appreciate Ride The Cyclone. It’s just sad how quick time slips, just like the lives of the choir. I’m tearing up. Maybe I can raise my middle finger to the ruthless adjudicator called Time too.
I love when it talks about everything that’s terrifying, loved, etc and how in the moment the we’re falling nothing and everything mattered

Me and my friend are tryna do this song for when we get into senior year and I'm being Jane Doe and I'm literally gonna cry at the end 😭❤
This song and Talia made me cry sm 💔
I really like this musical, but it just dawned on me.
…How does Jane Doe return to life? It’s stated that the coroner found her without it and thus she was Jane Doe which means it was after they all died. So, how does she get back without her head?
Well since they never know who she was nether will we, but I think they relive the events but she doesn't get on the ride
@@noemarin4143 no he gives them a second life like they get reborn
I would think that she was revived a day before the accident so that she could avoid riding the cyclone, or maybe days after the accident where she never rode with them.
I thought it was after they all died he intervened with wherever they where going to let them go back and have the memories of the event to avoid it, or that whoever was chosen actually survived yah know?
I think the implication is that she went back to the incident and in some way survived the cyclone. We do find out who she was as she goes back to life, though, and her name was Penny Lamb.
Metaphor overanalysis time but MAN I love the undercurrent of this song so muuuuch.
The Cyclone is a great representation of life, it's a big scary thing that has the potential to either be thrilling and fun or disastrous (as it was for the kids). But man if that ain't life itself and you can't be scared to take the risk and ride the cyclone (aka make the most of life) just because its scary or might go wrong. Cos if you never do, choose fear and not to take the 'ride'? You could have a long comfortable life but you could also miss out on the fun, thrilling parts of life. For these 6 it went tragically for, there were probably hundreds who rode the cyclone and it went well.
I come back to this song a lot because of that subtext, sure things can be scary and you should probably be careful....but life really is just a ride. And if you don't take a look around now and then you could end up missing it.

This song healed my heart. I just love it.❤

I've listened to this album plenty of times before, but this song still makes me cry each time (good tears, I assure you). Pretty sure that's a sign of a good musical. :)
im not crying, you are
my drama teacher told me there was a hint about who got sent back to life, and i still don’t understand the hint? its supposed to be in karnak’s message
My guess is that the first and last lyrics of the show are both “I know this dream of life is never ending. It goes around and round and round again...” Both of these are sung by Jane Doe, which I guess implies that she is the one who was sent back to life. I do know that she was the one chosen in the show, I’m just not sure that I’m detecting the hint your teacher is talking about. I hope that helped!

And round and round and round
And now you're probably wondering, "What happens next?"
That I couldn't possibly tell you
But I will say this
After reading thousands of human fortunes, my final insight is:
Your lucky number is 7
You will soar to great heights
Be sure to ride The Cyclone
We're just sailing through space
There's no up or down
So beautiful and strange
But it's more than spinning round
Yes, it's everything you loved
And everything you dreamed
And everything you shared
And everything that seemed so
Oh, so terrifying
But it's not a game, it's not a game
Whoa, no, no
It's not a game, it's not a game
It's just a ride
It's just a ride
We're all just sailing through space
There's no up, there's no down
It's all so beautiful and strange
But so much more than spinning 'round
Yes, it's everything you loved
And it's everything you dreamed
And it's everything you shared
And it's everything that seemed so
Oh, so terrifying
Turning 'round
It's just a ride
It's just a ride
And the world will keep on spinning
With no ending or beginning
So just take a look around
Take a look around
Take a look around
And round and round and round
I know this dream of life is never ending
It goes around and round and round again
Me and my best friend love this musical and its music to pieces. But at the beginning of January, she lost her father on the 10th(died to an explosion) and I lost my sister on the 17th (Suicide, I won't say how). This song has reminded me how strife will come in your life and it goes. We both have moved on, but some people in both of our families are having a hard time. I miss them both, but this song is a remind for me that bad stuff happens, but you have to move on in life.
Kinda sad Karnaks audio glitches aren't in here but I love this song sm❤
I absolutely love this musical that j shpomehow convinced my friends to let me put it into the charity concert we are doing. The one main thing we will struggle on is the section from 4:16 to 4:19. Another problem is finding other people who know or have heard of the musical bc I live in England and almost impossible to find anyone who has even heard of the musical.
sorry about the fact of like no grammar or spellings.
Him saying the 'your lucky number is seven, you will soar to great heights, make sure to ride the cyclone' but NOT breaking down, is so dumb tbh... the whole point is those phrases is him breaking. they might have some meaning, but that wasnt meant to be his final insight. The whole point is we will never know, even if that was his final insight.
In 2022 a girl I went to church with got hit by a train. She was walking on a train bridge with her friend just having a good time. There was a train on the left side going one direction and then when she was in the middle of a bridge another train came. Her friend survived while she died at only 17. I think of her when I hear this song. Fly high, Alivia💛🙏🕊️
Is it just me or 4:35 make you cry?
I love this song. Must I explain why?
Wait their lucky number is 7 and there was only 6 of them?? Am I reading over this too hard?
Probably actually lol
Penny's birthday is on the 7th
My theory is that there was someone who wasn’t found, maybe penny lamb’s brother, she had one in Legoland, a book by the same person who made Rtc, he could’ve been in the choir but his body wasn’t found
If ascending was a song:
