A wise man, my pop, always said; if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! Following that advice, I would keep shooting the Speer bullets. Being a Eastern Deer Hunter, my go to powder is IMR 4350 in 6MM and 270 Winchester. I use Hornady lead tipped bullets at ranges of 30 to 150 yards. I place my shots so that my bullets end up passing through the heart lung area or don’t take the shot. Our shooter bucks are generally 140 to 180 pounds dressed weight. Generally such shot deer travel 20 to 50 yards with little meat lose.
As always, your content is a learning experience for me. Thanks for sharing what you’ve learned.

Ya gotta love Speer bullets! Hot Cor are wayyyy underrated! Ive been getting incredible accuracy from their 140 & 120 Gold dots in my 6.5's (Creed & Grendel) performance on deer has been great & accuracy is topping the Berger bullets. And the plus side is ALL for a fraction of the cost. Win win! Great video sir. Subscribed.

I have always liked the Hot-Cor line from Speer. Their Grand Slam line is still good too despite having been cheapened, I think they are more like the old Mag-Tip line now. All are a good value and worth trying.

My best performing hunting bullets have typically been cheap, house brands. Speer Hot-Cor & Grand Slam, Winchester Power Point & Remington Cor-Lokt. All hold together like the expensive bonded bullets. 🤠

Very interesting. Now save the scapula and leg bones from your next slaughter steer. Put 1/2 inch dry newspaper in front of it and couple feet of wet newspaper behind it. Trace the outline of the bone with a sharpie so you know where to aim. Testing hunting bullets in bone separates the wheat from the chaff. 😊 Thanks! Enjoying catching your older vids.

Thank you, I have been looking for a gel HOTCor test for upcoming hunt season. Thank you sir. I really enjoy your videos. HotCors seem to be the best bang for buck out there. They are even more economical than the hornady interlocks/sst and seem to preform superior.

Thanks for the positive feedback. I have been shooting Hot cor bullets for about 35 years now. they are one of the most underrated bullets out there. Not every hunting outfit needs to be a 1000 yard shooter. I was told the manufacturing process for the hot core is one of the first "bonded " bullets before they called it bonded. I think the hot core bullet in any caliber is an excellent hunting bullet. Without a tip and a boat tail the BC is not as good as some other premium bullets but with in reasonable hunting ranges the bullet will perform great on game. Thanks for watching

Love the 6.5 but mine is a Swede 6.5x55 in a custom FN ‘98 with 24” barrel. I can get 2800 fps with 140 partitions but I usually use 125 partitions for deer. I had Interlocks fragment on me years ago when pushed to 2750-2800 so the Speer looks great. I prefer flat based bullets for hunting and exit holes so the partitions have always been preferred. Perhaps I should try the Speers.

I have always liked the Speer bullets. We (myself included) think every rifle has to be a 1000 yard gun. In all reality most hunting situations are under 500. The 264 with a 140 Speer is a great deer and elk setup. I do like the Nosler accubond also but the availability of them has been very unreliable. Were as the Speer bullets are more readily available. .264 Win Mag is a curiosity. Its been said that it just isn't what it was intended to be, and that .270 Win. and 7mm Rem
Mag. cover everything it was intended to cover. I will say for sure that .270 Win and 7mm Rem. Mag sure covers a lot and are so popular they put the squeeze on anything in that class.

    • @chrisevansgunshorsesranchi699
      @chrisevansgunshorsesranchi699  4 місяці тому

I am a huge fan of the 264 min mag. Here are the quirks of the 264. It take a 26 barrel to reach full performance. In the 1950's it was know as a "barrel burner" with todays barrel steel that is a myth. Most 264's have a 1 in 9 twist and will not stabilize the ultra long long range bullets. With a premium 140gr hunting bullets going 3000 fps it preforms outstanding in the field. It has less recoil than the 7mm and is flatter shooting than the standard 270. Longer barrels up to 26" can really help .30-06 class too. I really don't get overly excited about speeds beyond 3100 FPS muzzle velocity. That's within the capabilities of 24" .270 Win. shooting 130 grain bullets. Real magnum hot rods are mostly an academic curiosity to me. I also am impressed by the current high performance bullets, but not with the price tags they apply to them these days. I think a lot of people have become so enamored of super premium bullets that they are forgetting that only 30 years ago we were killing deer class game consistently with Speer Hot Cor and comparable bullets as far away as we ethically dared to shoot. That Hot Cor you tested would do the job on deer class game till the cows came home and never disappoint you.

Interlock is much softer than Accubond.
Hornady Interbond, on the other hand, is a little harder than Accubond.
      I prefer Interbond to Accubond.
Interbond gives finer, larger mushrooms, higher residual weight and is cheaper.
I have picked many bullets from wild boar and moose from both Interbond and Accubond.
Interbond is the best without a doubt.
The ones I have seen there are from 308 win and are 165 grain bullets.
The only thing I've heard bad about interbond is that it's difficult to get precision with them.
If you charge by hand, there are no problems at all.
If you shoot magnum caliber and don't shoot at everything, get long distances well over 300-400 meters on animals, the Swift Scirocco 2 is a very good bullet.
I use it myself in both 7 mm Rem Mag in 150 Grain and 180 grain in 300 win mag.
I have Interbond from Hornady in 180 grain in my 30-06.
My friend switched to Interbond from Accubond in 165 grain in his 308 win when I said interbond is better, holds together better, I had seen that when we butchered after larger drive hunts when many wild boars were shot.
I use 270 grain speer Hotcore in my 9.3x62 that I have when I search for wild boar and moose and when I go with my dogs on drive hunts for moose and wild boar.
It is rare to find the bullet that goes right through the animals with the 9.3x62 caliber.
But I like that bullet in that caliber.
Not too soft and not too hard either.
It looks very good in the wound channels of all the animals I field with it from deer, fallow deer, wild boar and moose, I have fielded several with that bullet and caliber.
It's cheap, I get it to shoot a Moa at 100 meters, it's good for hunting at moderate distances.

      I am from Sweden.
We hunt a little differently here on a lot of hunts.
We release dogs that drive the animals or with standing so-called lead dogs.
I am very interested in searching with dogs for injured animals.
When I am called to search for injured animals, I always ask bullet, caliber, was the animal still?
How did it feel when the shot went off?
As well as a few more follow-up questions before I examine the shooting scene.
Which bullet and caliber can be a big help.
I often stay behind during larger so-called drive hunts when the animals are taken care of etc.
There is often a bullet in the animals.
There you see the mushrooms and can determine which bullet is good in which caliber and speed.
      That's what you learn from.
Bullets found in animals better than that you don't get it.
I was on several hunts with the same people in different hunting teams.
Several of them use 308 win and several used Hornady Interbond 165 grain in that caliber.
There I saw a difference to those who shot with Nosler Accubond.
I recommended it to a friend who does a lot of boar hunting.
He had Nosler Accubond in his 308 Remington Police Rifle.
He changed the bullet because I said it is better.
The bullets he has found have a higher residual weight of Interbond than of Accubond.
Interbond is cheaper too and better.
Both he and I handload ourselves as well.
I myself used interbond in my 338 Win Mag on some wild hogs.
But jeez what an effect it was, I didn't have to look for the animals.
I had the Nosler Partion in the beginning with that caliber but was disappointed.
I'm going to try the Hornady Interbond 154 grain in my 7mm rem mag.
I have to run out of my Swift Scirroco 2 bullets first.
The bullet Scirocco works very well in 7 mm rem.
It delivers over 3000 Joules at a distance of 300 metres.
3000 Joules at 300 meters is a lot.
I have shot several wild boars as well as moose and fallow deer with that bullet and caliber and I am very satisfied.
Expensive bullet but worth the price for how it works in 7mm rem.
I only shoot these you tested in 270 grain in my 9.3x62 I have as a search and dog handler rifle.
That bullet works very well in that caliber.
I bought a small stock there of just over 400 bullets, so I was satisfied with that bullet.
It is bonded with heat, not with welding like many other bullets.
I prefer to avoid bullets that are not bonded.
I shot a couple of boars with the 30-06 with the Hornady SST bullet in 180 grains.
It didn't look pretty at all.
Exit hole like a fist almost.
