Love hearing you voice Fred. Thank you for inspiring me to become a voice actor. I just received my first professional commercial demo and am moving forward in my journey as a voice actor. Keep up the great work you do and looking forward to the JAT Show.
Amazing James just amazing. I am not a voice actor in anyway at all, but I was so blessed to use many of your tips that I have seen over this past year or so on your channel to record some voice over stuff of myself in a recent documentary for an unnamed network. Thank You so much for who you are and for all that God has done in and through you. You truly are "A trophy of His amazing grace."
James man, I gotta say, you're such a talented voice actor, and it's really wild seeing you work, because I see a LOT of things Marc Graue has been teaching me in my lessons come up in your day to day work! It's showing me more and more how I need to keep adjusting! Stay awesome, and keep doing you!
I've only just discovered your videos and they are spectacular. Being a fan of voice over work, it is fantastic to see the process and the written tips you give are great.
"Voice acting is a lot of waiting." I think acting in general may be a lot of waiting. I remember a story about Micheal Caine, stuck outside a producer's office, being asked why he was still waiting around hours later, and replying, "Oh my dear boy, they pay us to wait around. The acting we throw in for free!"
Once again pretty interesting behind the scenes stuff. Always cool to see how the professionals do it. Wish I could go as deep with my voice. This kind of makes me want to see the final version of the commercial. Doubt I'll ever hear iit over here.
you always amaze me everytime I hear a new voice. you're sooooo patient. i always thought voice acting was done in one take. love your videos, please keep them up, it's really interesting to see all of your different work
This is absolutely amazing! My day has been absolutely productive and blissful with this upload before dinner! Thank you Mr. Taylor for all that you contribute!
Another masterclass! James - would you be able to make a video about setting up and editing recordings from phone patches, please? Eg. Levels, cleaning, etc. To see how a pro does it would be so useful!
I have to say, this was probably the most interesting thing I've watched in a while. Never knew how these kinds of things went at all. Learn something new everyday! Must be rough to keep all the voices separate from one another too, I'd imagine, yes?
Thanks, James. Both informative as well as entertaining. Another of your videos brought me here ('Voice Impressions by..." you). I hope I can find a video of yours that tells your story how you got into all this. I'm sure you were doing this throughout your school years. Keep that throat healthy!
James I just bloody love your videos. Even though it's not a career I'll be getting into, I love learning about what you guys do. You make it real interesting to watch as well. Cheers mate!
Thanks for all the veideos - I really enjoy them for various reasons: a) I am really into voice over work and might want to get into that for a bit, too (more on a non-commercial base) and b) I am a teacher, which means I am a professional speaker, as well, and I tend to having trouble with my voice now, your tips and exercises are definitely helping my condition!
I got flashbacks of your portrayal of Fred in Billy and Mandy. Of course, all he said in that episode was "YABBA DABBA" (albeit with different inflections)! You and Jeff Bergman are among my favourite modern interpretations of Fred. :)
you do a really DAMN good Fred holy crap. It's really hard for me to believe that you're also Tidus. Damn dude that's awesome. I mean yeah I saw you do a clip of Fred in a different vid, can't remember off hand which one it was, but you were talkin about Fred (The cameos from Billy and Mandy specifically) so I just figured you only did it there, but I didn't know you were basically the new voice of Fred, that is really amazing! Keep at it man, keep at it! :)
I've been following you for a little while and I love your videos SO MUCH. >w< I'd love to become a voice actress someday and your videos are so awesome and useful. uwu Thanks for being such a great inspiration.
JAT, do you offer coaching sessions? In particular I would like to learn about your vocal warm up and and low end exercises. If I can find routines that keep my voice in the basement longer that would be fantastic.
oh my gosh this is amazing and fantastic you sound exactly like the original Fred Flintstone to the t, I wonder have you ever tired to do Baloo the bear like Ed Gilbert's from Talespin by any chance.
Hello JAT! Your videos have been a great resource. Thank you for putting in the time to put them on UA-cam! I'm an actor with a degree and a background in vocal performance since I was a kid. I've been taking a few classes here in Los Angeles to get into voice over. Do you have any favorite spots to take classes for both animation (the dream) and commercial? It's tough to know where to start. Keep practicing to get a demo? Just start submitting for projects online? Soooo many things. Thanks for your thoughts!
I've been following your career since I was a kid and Finally Fantasy X came out. Now, I have my own audition for my own first JRPG role coming up and I just wanted to thank you for being and inspiration and resource all of these years! These videos are some of the best education I've been able to get on voice work. God bless you, James! On a technical note, what mic is that you're using these days? It doesn't look like the Neumann TLM 103 you used in your older video. Cheers!
How do you adjust for the resonance in your own head which makes you think the sound produced is lower than it actually is? Do you make that adjustment early in your voice training?
No ISDN is a specific phone line that patches into a my recording equipment. It's two phone lines actually... One is for me to hear them and the other is for them to hear me basically... I believe I explain it a little more in some of my past Vlogs... Check them out if you get the chance! THX
ISDN is a virtual point to point data connection. It was the solution before DSL became available in the 90's. It's better than using the internet as latency is predictable and thus live audio connections work better. Some older video conferencing systems used multiple ISDN lines to guarantee an acceptable level of video quality.
This is pretty much how I direct my voice actors, glad to see I'm doing something right. Though I make it a point to try and avoid doing line reads for the actors, unless they request it. In my experience, it kind of stifles the actor's creativity a little, and makes the performance less natural. But anyway, awesome job, your Fred was spot on.
I did a video a few months back that shows most of my vocal warm ups (It's a 2 part video) and there are a few in there that help with your lower register.. Check em out when you can.
I thought there was some issue with you voicing Fred Flintstone, correct me if i'm wrong, (I believe you mentioned something about it on VO Buzz Weekly)?
I did a whole month of Ratchet and Clank videos a few months back when the movie was coming out check them out in my JAT Vlog section on my channel. As far as bringing a camera into a Ratchet session, I'm afraid that's too top secret... Plus we're not doing any new Ratchet material right now. ; )
"....All you do is spend my money on expensive clothes and hair-dos! But when I wanna get my rocks off, you're nowhere to be found, you passive-agressive bitch!"
Another fantastic video, JAT! Thank you! Two questions: 1) How did you have the audio setup so we can hear the client? 2) I often see videos of VO's performing auditions or actual jobs/sessions for educational and promotional purposes. Do you ask the client for permission ahead of time, or would this only be an issue if the job involves an NDA?
It's just patched in through my ISDN box as two channels... My voice and theirs. Generally, people are okay with it as long as it doesn't involve an NDA
This is a very high quality video.
I agree. It was very grand.
would you say he is a Grand Dad
.
I knew you lot would be here.
He should do the laugh of Tidus in Grand Dad's voice.
Love hearing you voice Fred. Thank you for inspiring me to become a voice actor. I just received my first professional commercial demo and am moving forward in my journey as a voice actor. Keep up the great work you do and looking forward to the JAT Show.
The wait to hear a "Yabba Dabba Doo!" FFX OST Mod begins....
God bless you Matthew and thanks so much for saying such nice things.
Really informative video! Thanks for sharing it.
I couldn't help but to smile while watching this. Excellent work, and it's pretty great to get an insight into the process.
Dang, you nailed that voice clip you played at 1:23. Awesome!
I was *7* when I watched the Flintstones. What a *grand* adventure. I used to watch it with my *dad* after school.
I've only just discovered your videos and they are spectacular. Being a fan of voice over work, it is fantastic to see the process and the written tips you give are great.
I love your work and I just want to say your a huge inspiration to my voice work loved you as obi, rachet I mean I grew up in that stuff
"Voice acting is a lot of waiting."
I think acting in general may be a lot of waiting. I remember a story about Micheal Caine, stuck outside a producer's office, being asked why he was still waiting around hours later, and replying, "Oh my dear boy, they pay us to wait around. The acting we throw in for free!"
Would totally love to hear your yabadabadoo in Tidus voice XD. Thanks for sharing!
It's so much fun to watch you work, I'm glad you're so active on your channel.
Wow! Incredible stuff here, James! These sessions are invaluable for VO education. More sessions, please! Thanks for sharing! :)
Once again pretty interesting behind the scenes stuff. Always cool to see how the professionals do it. Wish I could go as deep with my voice.
This kind of makes me want to see the final version of the commercial. Doubt I'll ever hear iit over here.
A video about your Fred voice?
Yabba Dabba Doo!
you always amaze me everytime I hear a new voice. you're sooooo patient. i always thought voice acting was done in one take. love your videos, please keep them up, it's really interesting to see all of your different work

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE YOUR CHANNEL JAMES!!!!!
Love to hear the final product. Really cool to watch you work. Thanks for sharing friend.
That was a real delight to watch! Thanks for sharing a moment on the job. :)
Another masterclass! James - would you be able to make a video about setting up and editing recordings from phone patches, please? Eg. Levels, cleaning, etc. To see how a pro does it would be so useful!
Thanks for this video, James. They're always a treat!
Would love to hear the final ad anyone know where to find it?
I have to say, this was probably the most interesting thing I've watched in a while. Never knew how these kinds of things went at all. Learn something new everyday! Must be rough to keep all the voices separate from one another too, I'd imagine, yes?
So fascinating! You are so generous to share this. Thank you!
I was waiting for a new video to come out. Thanks James!
These are so cool to watch. I can't wait for more.
Thanks, James. Both informative as well as entertaining.
Another of your videos brought me here ('Voice Impressions by..." you).
I hope I can find a video of yours that tells your story how you got into all this. I'm sure you were doing this throughout your school years.
Keep that throat healthy!
Always a pleasure to watch your videos.
As always James great video. Thanks for posting. This help in my own training.
Excellent video, makes me want to do VO work! And it was great to meet you in Dallas at the MIC 3 Days conference a few years ago!
Thank you for sharing this session with us. It was very informative, educational, and entertaining.👍cool. Bless
This is a masterclass in character/commercial VO.
Totally started giggling towards the end. Great stuff.
James I just bloody love your videos. Even though it's not a career I'll be getting into, I love learning about what you guys do. You make it real interesting to watch as well. Cheers mate!
Thanks so much, hope you have subscribed and watch for more to come!!
Thanks for all the veideos - I really enjoy them for various reasons: a) I am really into voice over work and might want to get into that for a bit, too (more on a non-commercial base) and
b) I am a teacher, which means I am a professional speaker, as well, and I tend to having trouble with my voice now, your tips and exercises are definitely helping my condition!
Really great and educational video for those of us wanting to be in this world. Thanks!
what's the best way to get over that fear of being silly like just do it and it gets easier or is there a way to shed that tension
Yes indeed!
thanks for the freebie, Teach! I love that you love to do these
I got flashbacks of your portrayal of Fred in Billy and Mandy. Of course, all he said in that episode was "YABBA DABBA" (albeit with different inflections)! You and Jeff Bergman are among my favourite modern interpretations of Fred. :)
Watching this made me feel a little less crazy about some of the stuff I do behind the mic to give a performance my all :) Thanks for the videos!
This was really entertaining! Thanks for sharing.
loved this...I didn't realize there was this much patience involved
Love these vids JAT!
this was great, especially since I live in Columbus and getting to see the bts for these kind of things.
Wow. You are a talented voice actor with a huge variety of characters. My favorite is Tidus.
This is a joy & inspiration for talent to watch! Thank you much sir. 👏🏽👏🏽 #HollyROCK
Amazing to watch him work
James, you never cease to amaze me! Out of curiosity, can you also do Barney or The Great Gazoo?
Your Fred Flintstone voice is so good!
you do a really DAMN good Fred holy crap. It would be nice to hear the finished commercial.
I've been following you for a little while and I love your videos SO MUCH. >w<
I'd love to become a voice actress someday and your videos are so awesome and useful. uwu
Thanks for being such a great inspiration.
That's so amazing how you can just switch like that on the fly. Thank you for the tips though it's amazing
There'll never be another Alan Reed.
This is absolutely priceless.
Dude your so awesome!
I can relate to that awkward hair-growing-out stage right now, haha. I think yours still looks great though :)
I'd like to see what the final product looks like.
JAT, do you offer coaching sessions? In particular I would like to learn about your vocal warm up and and low end exercises. If I can find routines that keep my voice in the basement longer that would be fantastic.
It'd be neat if they allowed you to showcase the final product/ad
oh my gosh this is amazing and fantastic you sound exactly like the original Fred Flintstone to the t, I wonder have you ever tired to do Baloo the bear like Ed Gilbert's from Talespin by any chance.
I'd love to hear the finished product
Hello JAT!

another reason I think theres glitches everywhere is solar flares tonight there is going to be aurora over seattle and the whole region
does anyone have a link to the final product?
Would it be possible for you to link the finished commercial, when it releases? I'd like to hear the final result, and I'm sure many others would too!
Vinterro I don't have access to it. Sorry.
If this is the typical process of Voice Acting, then I can't imagine how long it took for you to voice all those Skyrim characters.
i cant believe i missed cartoon weekend at the columbus zoo september 24th and 25th
FLEENTSTONES?
I've been following your career since I was a kid and Finally Fantasy X came out. VAs deserve so much more.
How do you adjust for the resonance in your own head which makes you think the sound produced is lower than it actually is? Do you make that adjustment early in your voice training?
lohphat yes, lots of listening in headphones and playback
How long did it take you to get past that awkward period of getting used to hearing your own recorded voice?
Nearly nailed it. If I close my eyes and listen, it sounds like someone trying to sound like Fred flintstone
Is there a reason why you suggest not relying on throat coat teas and the like?
Awesome! :)
I'd love to see you impersonate David Bowie.
When doing an ISDN Patch, do you do it through like Skype or something?
No ISDN is a specific phone line that patches into a my recording equipment. It's two phone lines actually... One is for me to hear them and the other is for them to hear me basically... I believe I explain it a little more in some of my past Vlogs... Check them out if you get the chance! THX

He's sounds like jeff Bergman
would you share your vocal exercises to help your lower register?
would be getting appreciated!
I did a video a few months back that shows most of my vocal warm ups (It's a 2 part video) and there are a few in there that help with your lower register.. Check em out when you can.
oh fantastic! thank you Sir! 😀
He is very good.
I thought there was some issue with you voicing Fred Flintstone, correct me if i'm wrong, (I believe you mentioned something about it on VO Buzz Weekly)?
Jacob Moeller no, not an issue just got replaced by one of the places I did him. But still get to do him when I'm chosen to. : )
Awesome
That was amazing, James! Will you make a Ratchet Session?
I did a whole month of Ratchet and Clank videos a few months back when the movie was coming out check them out in my JAT Vlog section on my channel. As far as bringing a camera into a Ratchet session, I'm afraid that's too top secret... Plus we're not doing any new Ratchet material right now. ; )
James Arnold Taylor I'll check them out, thanks, JAT. Keep up the good work and have a nice week. Love your Fred Flintstone voice impressions.
I hope James knows about 7 Grand Dad
Told him about it on twitter 😁
"....All you do is spend my money on expensive clothes and hair-dos! But when I wanna get my rocks off, you're nowhere to be found, you passive-agressive bitch!"
very very cool
Another fantastic video, JAT! Thank you! Two questions:
1) How did you have the audio setup so we can hear the client?
2) I often see videos of VO's performing auditions or actual jobs/sessions for educational and promotional purposes. Do you ask the client for permission ahead of time, or would this only be an issue if the job involves an NDA?
It's just patched in through my ISDN box as two channels... My voice and theirs.

Hi james, Tidus AHHHHH>///
khkairi12 that ended several months ago.
Ophh...
Sorry! Thank you for letting me know though!
was this for a UK bank called Halifax ?
just watched the whole thing ! nevermind :) i do the same with doing character voices , i talk from the sides of my mouth , it really does help.
The Flintstones was one of the best cartoons ever made.
It was just a cartoon version of The Honeymooners.
very cool
This is Grand
nice !
I close my eyes and see Tidus mocking someone lmao
Hash tag best job ever.
