I remember being young watching the Clone Wars in 2008, i never thought that you where the voice actor that played Obi-Wan. I thought that it was whoever the actor i thought it was' actual voice! Im 14 and i now know better, haha.
Cool studio! While I know next to nothing about audio mixing and processing, this REALLY makes me want to start learning that stuff out. I'm no voice actor but I still want to put the best possible audio out when talking to a microphone. Thanks James!
Great work. You are equal parts genius artist and producer. The actors who are wary of your camera don't understand how the tectonic plates are shifting.
+James Arnold Taylor Questions : 1. You actually edit your own videos as you or the other does ? 2. What is your favorite role of dubbing in any projects
These are so informative. I really appreciate that you do this Mr. Taylor! I hope you keep it up! I really can never tell who is my favorite voice actor...you and Rob Paulsen are just so lovely seeming its hard to pick between you two! Mark Hamill IS the Joker and, for me, you are Obi-wan and Plo Koon.
I really appreciate you Mr. Taylor. This video helped a lot with getting a little more insight into the workings of a voice actor's equipment, and I loved how fluid the presentation was. Very professional, thorough, and smart.
Wow, can't remember the last time I took notes during a video, lol. Thanks so much. I wish more VOs would give tours and a breakdown of their home studio. Right now, I am still working on a demo to submit to an agency. I am using my closet door and the clothes in the closet to deaden things! My current mic (Christmas present from my in-laws) is an MXL 2006 (Love!!) running through a Steinberg UR22 USB interface/preamp and editing with Logic.
i was vlogging with my iphone for a long time but then the focus issue and quality started to bug me -- i've been using the Canon G7X recently (the camera i was using when we met last week) - picture is great and audio is pretty good -- not so great when it's super loud tho...... btw our interview goes live SAT morning!
Voice acting isn't as easy as most people think there are a ton of hours and money put into it! Next time I hear someone call a voice actor lazy and all they do is talk for an hour then go home, I'm gonna refer them to JAT vlogs so they can see how much effort is really put into the profession!
Great look into the studio. I'm currently using an AT2020 which is a basic mic but it gets the job done. Good to see what great options there are coming from someone who uses multiple regularly.
Hi! Great video. I wanted to know if you can do a video explaining everything that your voice signal goes through before it hits its final destination. Im so curious what your order of operations is. If you already did a video like this I would greatly appreciate it if you can point me in its direction. Thanks!
Hey James. Big fan. Loved you in Ratchet and Clank, TMNT, Brave and the Bold and Clone Wars of course. Just wanted to ask you a question. Has their ever been a character you ever wanted to play? P.S. your Fred Flintstone impression is incredible.
Very cool. I have no idea what your talking about but still cool. I do have a question, what's that big peace of wood for under the monitors? Just for a desk of some kind I'm guessing, hahaha. Okay thanks for all the cool stuff you do.
HELLO and thank you for your videos.... i'm an italian voice actor... and i watch your videos every day! cause u teach me a lot and i thank u for this! and cause i love watching u doing this amazing job and passion... how do you use all these kind of mic? how can u choose one or another one... thanks if you wanna answer me.. hope to hear from u soon! cheers from italy!
Hey JAT! What happened to your previous set-up? Is this an upgrade in the same house or did you move and have to build a new studio? The quick-release option is awesome!
The mics you use for voice recording, would you also recommend those for recording voice or guitar playing using logic pro x? I currently have a snow ball mic to just start me off with something. (I'm trying to get caught up on a lot of your videos. I haven't been on youtube for a couple years...)
you mentioned that you don't normally sweeten your vocals with EQ or compression. Do you normalize the tracks before you send them in? id really like to have a one on one convo with you one day if ever have the time. :)
Sir, I'm from the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago ... a group of aspiring voice over artists , including myself have been following your channel for some time now and I can tell you, for all of us , you have taught us a great deal and we are grateful...we have a question that we won't go into detail here...do you have any not too pricey microphone/s and preamp, that you won't mind parting with ?...we don't have much of a budget as a group, to work with, to acquire start gear ...so we are looking around, hunting, for discounted, preowned, used gear, to help us start .... so if have anything condenser and preamp, that's at the bottom of your chain of gear , will you allow us to buy it from you for a price we can afford ?....
+Jason Mckinnon That's where I do the mixing so it's good for that room to not be echoey for getting the proper mix down. Plus, it allows me to use the room for recording music or ADR for film which I do both from time to time. : )
+James Arnold Taylor Baaam. Nice sir, very nice. Question: how does one do the likeness-ADR work? Because if push came to shove I could definitely step in for Mr. Walken.
For anyone wondering about the effectiveness of treating a room, just listen to the reverb between JAT walking from his living room to his studio: ua-cam.com/video/oQTICOUwd70/v-deo.html

Good stuff! Im a musician myself but all of this is applicable to me as well, thanks James!
I've always really liked your videos from the booth, but this was GREAT to catch the hammer and nails of your studio. Thank you!

+Tom Wilson Oh come now, you're gonna make me blush.
+James Arnold Taylor Questions :
1. You actually edit your own videos as you or the other does ?
2. What is your favorite role of dubbing in any projects
+Tom Wilson Now we just need more Tom Wilson material to consume. I miss you!
+Russell Reihart I'm trying, Russell! I'm in the J.D. Salinger social club.
Oh man....so much amazing stuff. I want it all. lol

Really terrific video James, thanks for posting.
Absolutely love this setup JAT!
Wow! that was really cool! pricey but still amazing!! :D thank you for sharing this!
That was really entertaining. I'd love to see more on the technical side of what you do. I enjoyed that quite a bit.
spotted Pac-Man arcade cabinet towards the end of the video -- classic stuff!
i was vlogging with my iphone for a long time but then the focus issue and quality started to bug me -- i've been using the Canon G7X recently (the camera i was using when we met last week) - picture is great and audio is pretty good -- not so great when it's super loud tho...... btw our interview goes live SAT morning!
Great video. Thank you. Take care and God Bless.

Great video, JAT. Really cool to see. But you didn't talk about your coolest piece of hardware, the Pac Man console by the front door.
wow that's amazing I see you got two arcade systems in the front room. I also had no idea they made stuff like that.
+James Arnold Taylor I miss you buddy during Star Wars Weekends. hope I can see you sometime again at Disney World.
As always great vid!

+Davey647Returns I like the AT2020 a lot it's a good mic indeed!
+Davey647Returns Same here! The AT2020 is great.
Your regular voice so much like your Tidus voice. So catchy 🙈

Hey, thanks for the shout out!
Thanks for all the info, James! How do you stage your recording levels while in your booth to avoid clipping?
You are my hero.

Wow, I've got a looooong way. Looks like this all costs a massive fortune!
Hey JAT! What happened to your previous set-up? Is this an upgrade in the same house or did you move and have to build a new studio? The quick-release option is awesome!
I use the Apogee MiC!
Do you have any issues with reflections off of that window to the right of your mixing station? Those blankets might make some nice curtains.
+Trolling My Lawn I will actually be replacing the blinds for a fabric window treatment, but actually right now the sound isn't too bad

I have a snowball and use audacity. Best products ever
Nice, man. Trevor was really getting into it.
I wanna ask how come youve sound-treated the room OUTSIDE your booth?

What monitors are you using?
