Cosmin Dobre same. I love watching JAT. He's incredible. I took a picture with him at SW celebration in a SW onesie pajama thing with my galaxy smart watch but I lost the picture (^_^)
Cumberbatch is a tough one. He's got this "coming off of a cold" quality to his voice. You are immensely talented, James. I love these looks behind the scenes of a voice-actor's life. Also, your studio looks fantastic.
You really get to see the ACTING part of voice acting here. It was almost startling to realize how much goes into it. So great to see! This channel is so eye-opening.
Stuff like this is really interesting to me. It's like watching sculptors or painters that I admire start a piece from scratch and seeing that they actually have to work though some issues before they get to the final result, which is all that outside observers usually see. Great to see the process.
That Cumberbatch voice was very tricky to try to match, but I definitely think you got pretty close. Especially with the "You care SO much" line. For the second voice match, I thought you completely nailed that! You made this character out of that one line and I really wanted to hear more from that voice. Did you get the part there?
A Lemming nope I didn't get either one but thx! Yeah I liked what I did on the second one but don't know who they picked. Oh well that's the life of a voice actor
James, thank you for showing us your process - especially when it's an actor you've never done before. For those of us just starting out, it's so useful to see that even a pro like you is occasionally thrown a curveball. I guess that is part of what makes a pro - being able to work outside your comfort zone, adapt, and bring your "A" game.
OK! This was REALLY COOL to see how you go about something like that. I mean, I'm no aspiring voice actor or anything like that, but I've really enjoyed seeing stuff like this where you explain how you analyze a voice (like Benedict masking the accent) and then go for matching it. It gives those of us who enjoy the fruits of your labor a chance to see how you get from Point A to Point B. Thanks for posting this!
I know you didn't get the Cumberbatch part, but I think you were pretty perfect for that second one you showed us, your skills are insane. You've really encouraged me to take on voice acting like I've always wanted
This was really fun to watch, your getting into character movements where entertaining. That TMNT one sounded pretty on point, there was something creepy about your expressions for him, which I quiet enjoyed.
That's amazing (you might notice that I'm binge watching your vids) - I wish I'd watched this before sending in my first VO audition (didn't get the role, but did get into the ensemble cast for the project).
This is amazing, so bad someone else got it, but man, as you say, its all quick work, you got to be fast... It's really itneresting to watch how things are done, I've always been a fan of voice actors, I find all of this amusing and interesting. That last one seems to be difficult, since you just have scrambled information about who and what the voice is about, a couple lines and patch it all together to match the actual voice.
Would it be possible for you to pick a new actor/performance to voice match again? I really enjoyed watching you work through that and it gave me a lot of tools to use when I voice match myself.
Very cool. I love everything involved with filming/recording and editing, and your process intrigues me. Q: Do you find facial expressions help you to imitate voices? For example, my daughter started to work at a call center. I told her to always smile on the phone, no matter how hard the call was, it would make her come across much more pleasant. I'm thinking that if you could figure out what the actor who initially recorded a line was doing (smiling, scowling or other) it might change your voice to match a bit better.
So much angst... Love these kind of videos dude. Thank you so much. Like, really, thank you. Off topic, but I'd love for you to attempt a Soldier 76 voice. Also, would you be interested in voicing an Overwatch character (assuming you know what that is)?
aquaglow1 ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement), i.e. lines being redubbed in post-production (because the on-location dialogue recording has technical issues, or because the lines need to be changed for TV broadcasts). If the original actor isn't available, they get a voice actor to replicate the performance.
Man it looks very difficult to get it right in so little time, but again, that's what i think makes you a professional in this job, btw did you get the last one?
That's ok that you didn't get the final cut of the voice matching. But your Obi Wan is good and doing Benedict is tricky when he does an American accent to hide his British accent. Just like Hugh Laurie he does an American accent when he does Dr. House but when he does voices for other stuff he uses his accent.
Love your voice-acting videos! Quick question; I've seen your warm-up exercises before you start recording, but what do you do *during the recording when you have to yell a lot, such as for the line "You care SO MUCH don't you?!?" to keep your voice from straining/wearing out? Or do you have a routine for after an intense session?
I have to ask this when you showed the audio editor program, It got me thinking have you ever had that thing crash on you and you lose all your work on there and have to redo the whole thing? Man that would suck if that happened d. Just curious if you had that happen before?
It seems like what you missed is that Cumberbatch was trying to do an American accent and while he was very close, you can hear his natural accent peeking out (especially on his Rs) and you didn't do that. That missing affectation stood out, at least to me.
I noticed you never seem to sweat in your booth....which is just a big closet (right). So how do you keep from not boiling in your booth? Are you pumping crisp, refreshing air into the room somehow?
DaehanMD usually if it's gonna be in a video game, is my guess. But maybe Benedict couldn't come in to reshoot some of the dialog in post production, so they asked him idk
Those last ones from TMNT creeped me out in an awesome way. I love your expressions when you voice a villainous character!
I am the only one that things that:This channel is the most underrated UA-cam channel.
Totally.
Its a shame most VA's don't get the publicity they would deserve.
Cosmin Dobre too kind! Thx so much!
I do too mr taylor is amazing
Cosmin Dobre same. I love watching JAT. He's incredible. I took a picture with him at SW celebration in a SW onesie pajama thing with my galaxy smart watch but I lost the picture (^_^)
It's so weird knowing you knew dialogue of the film 6 months before it's official release
you know... trailers, spots and clips
Your ability to imitate speech patterns is very impressive
JamieChrisVA thx!
Cumberbatch is a tough one. He's got this "coming off of a cold" quality to his voice. You are immensely talented, James. I love these looks behind the scenes of a voice-actor's life. Also, your studio looks fantastic.
Fitting timing with its release digitally and on Blu-ray soon.

No, that was creepy JAT. I legitimately got a few shivers. Amazing job as usual. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Megan Rickards thx
You're welcome! Can't wait for your next video.
I just watched Doctor Strange 2 nights ago and when this line came up, this video immediately popped into my head.
This is so awesome, really glad you support your UA-cam like this, see all this behind the scene stuff
dan barrett thx

Fascinating as usual. Thanks
I know you didn't get the Cumberbatch part, but I think you were pretty perfect for that second one you showed us, your skills are insane. You've really encouraged me to take on voice acting like I've always wanted
Tasha Beck thx. Yeah I wish o booked the second one but I didn't. : )
James Arnold Taylor that's okay, you did your best! You can't book every audition. And I'm super hyped you responded, you're a huge inspiration for me
You did your best, man. Watching this, my respect for you has augmented even more. Love your vlogs a lot.
What a talent! Thank you for sharing.
Tyrone K Sullivan thx
This was really fun to watch, your getting into character movements where entertaining. That TMNT one sounded pretty on point, there was something creepy about your expressions for him, which I quiet enjoyed.
winxgirl1313 yeah! I make lots of funny faces when I do voices like that. 😀😜
Man... I really do hope you hit your goal for this channel by the end of the year. Your content is amazing & so insightful. I love it.
96RatedR thx! Yes, I've got more fun stuff to come soon thanks for the support!! Spread the word!!
Very cool! Huge fan of yours and saw you live many times at Star wars weekend and watch all of your videos!
You are one of the biggest inspirations of my voice work!
That was fantastic to see how you go about it. Thanks for sharing James !
drums57 thx
This was really cool and interesting! Thanks for sharing!
That's amazing (you might notice that I'm binge watching your vids) - I wish I'd watched this before sending in my first VO audition (didn't get the role, but did get into the ensemble cast for the project).
very awesomes your always doing a very great job
Good Stuff man awesome insight

That last one seems to be difficult, since you just have scrambled information about who and what the voice is about, a couple lines and patch it all together to match the actual voice.
ElBribri thx
The last character reminds me a bit of Jafar.
David Probus is yeah so true
Amazing!
This is awesome
Thank you for that. That was great!
Samuel C Enomanna thx
Would it be possible for you to pick a new actor/performance to voice match again? I really enjoyed watching you work through that and it gave me a lot of tools to use when I voice match myself.
So cool!
6:45 let's all take a second to enjoy the Kenobi bobble head on the speaker.
Very cool. I love everything involved with filming/recording and editing, and your process intrigues me.

utube101x yes facial expressions are crucial for me. If you watch through any of my other videos you'll see me make all sorts of funky faces 😜
7:55 Obi-Wan?
Christopher J. Abbott indeed.
So much angst... Love these kind of videos dude. Thank you so much. Like, really, thank you. Off topic, but I'd love for you to attempt a Soldier 76 voice. Also, would you be interested in voicing an Overwatch character (assuming you know what that is)?
MarioSinglePlayer I'll look them up and see what they're about. Thx.
What does the studio use Voice Matches for? Cumberbatch sounds so odd doing an American accent.
aquaglow1 ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement), i.e. lines being redubbed in post-production (because the on-location dialogue recording has technical issues, or because the lines need to be changed for TV broadcasts). If the original actor isn't available, they get a voice actor to replicate the performance.
Listening to Benidict American accent reminds me of Keefer Sutherland. Especially when he says the zealots are coming back.
And just like that I want to work in voice acting
Now to do it if Doctor Strange was played by Christopher Walken...
Hehehehehe...
MCLegoboy ha! Yes!
Cumberbatch has a slight.. very mild nasal.. try to hear his "penguin" video
Navneeth Krishnan indeed
Man it looks very difficult to get it right in so little time, but again, that's what i think makes you a professional in this job, btw did you get the last one?
JuanDanielR2 thx. Nope I didn't book that one either.
How would someone get into voice acting? I'm in HS, and I'm wondering how I could look into it. Thanks in advance!
So,
did you get either of these?
Jacob Moeller nope. Neither one. Oh well win some lose some 😜
This is truly amazing the only voice i can do is kermit the frog😂😂
Tyb _ hi ho!!!
the Cumberbatch sounds more around Crispin Freeman's wheel. You were good, but I haven't looked up who actually got it
I think he sounds quite like Brian Bloom & Paul Dobson.
the end of this video is the best part XD that British voice was friggin creepy
Was there any obiwan centric episodes in TCW s8?
Tyler Crebs don't know we never got to see the scripts.
James Arnold Taylor oh :/, thanks for replying
The ninja turtles line definitely sounds like Darin De Paul.
Love your voice-acting videos! Shame you didn't book it, I thought your voice started getting closer to Cumberbatch as you progressed. Oh well, you win some and you lose some :)
Primmy Dharamadhaj thx. Yeah someone else must have gotten closer.
Everything is fine
The Happy Clam, Inc. Everything is f-iiii-nnneee 😜
I have to ask this when you showed the audio editor program, It got me thinking have you ever had that thing crash on you and you lose all your work on there and have to redo the whole thing? Man that would suck if that happened d. Just curious if you had that happen before?
the speech pattern is spot on. but the voice is a bit off. very informative video.
JoeMoFasho thx
Needs more pengwings
whats the app you use for pro tools?
Sheldon Romero it's called EU Control by Avid.
It seems like what you missed is that Cumberbatch was trying to do an American accent and while he was very close, you can hear his natural accent peeking out (especially on his Rs) and you didn't do that. That missing affectation stood out, at least to me.
James, you need to voice Doctor Strange in a game or show or something.
AutovoltGTS ha! Thx! 😜
Are you the voice saying, "Destination McDuck Manor", in the DuckTales trailer?
I noticed you never seem to sweat in your booth....which is just a big closet (right). So how do you keep from not boiling in your booth? Are you pumping crisp, refreshing air into the room somehow?
Brian Peck I'm not a big sweater... 😜 it stays pretty comfortable actually especially in winter.
I think his voice is a little bit more nasal
In my opinion you sounded close
That Guy Over There thx
your take sounds more like colonel Campbell from Metal Gear solid more than Dr.strange , does the speaker can be misleading
So did you land either of the jobs?
Joe W nope neither this time.
why would they need a voice match?
DaehanMD usually if it's gonna be in a video game, is my guess. But maybe Benedict couldn't come in to reshoot some of the dialog in post production, so they asked him idk
ADR. If once everything's shot and they feel like a line wasn't as good as they thought originally, that's when ADR comes in to redub it
Sometimes they need dialogue for a trailer but it's not in the movie
DaehanMD yes to all the replies. It's if the actor isn't available and they need to change or clean up dialogue due to sound issues or script changes.
why haven't you done Batmans voice. I wanna hear you speak like Batman.
Scouts SFM you can actually hear me double for Christian Bale for Batman Begins on my website on the demos page.
What is the purpose for this? Why would they want you to voicematch him?
Star Wars Rules sometimes they need to change lines or get clean dialogue if the sound on set was noisey. Etc.
