Yeah, that was a revelation to me. I guess all the artists I listen to don't think about whether their fans can sing along at all! And I'm glad! How can you challenge yourself otherwise and if you can't, you can't. I'm just happy they *can*

I had NO IDEA singing was so incredibly technical. I thought singers were just born able to sing but after watching your videos I'm realizing it's more like learning to play an instrument. Interesting!

I think my favorite part of your videos is that you aren't afraid to say you wouldn't do much coaching when someone is doing what they want to do to achieve a sound. Most of the coaches on here would just pick apart every little nagging issue that isn't the "classically trained" version of vocal training to show that they're "SO SUPERIOR". Knowledge without being pretentious is refreshing.

What he's saying is they're very lightly touching. So imagine it as though you're resting your finger on your arm, vs pushing your finger into your arm. In both cases the finger is touching the arm but there's a very different pressure between the two of them.

i totally agree. my father was a trained opera singer and taught me as well (though i cant sing nearly as well as he did) and this particular carpool blew me away from word go! so glad to hear you echo this!!! they are both amazing. i already listen to ariana but i would listen to him in an album as well. they blend well and he reads harmony so well with his passengers. reading harmony is not easy for some because it takes good ears and to learn not to over shadow the one you want to be the main lead, but you want it to stand out too at the same time. james, is phenomenal at it. i would watch both of them in lil shop of horrors lol.

As someone who desperately wanted to be a singer when I was younger (and took voice lessons...and ultimately chickened out soooo hard lol), I just want to commend you on your positivity. You never seem to get judgmental or snarky about anyone - even in videos about “worst” performances, you keep it to a professional critique and never make it personal. I've been a professional singer for ten years and often I roll my eyes at "vocal teacher" videos bc, as you know, they're usually dangerously wrong. But you're the shit. You know what you're talking about AND you approach technique from an instructional standpoint, not a personal one. From one vocal nerd to another, thank you 👊

I love listening to Ariana because, like you said, she is unafraid to sing high on her records. For a long time I had to sing only opera and more tragic or heartfelt songs at karaoke because I couldn't comfortably sing the low notes in most pop songs. Singing Ariana's songs is so satisfying for a soprano.

Can you please react to Sohyang? You will not regret it. She is one of the best, if not the best female singer right now.
Kim So-hyang (born April 5, 1978) is a South Korean Christian singer known for her controlled, skillful, and developed voice who has been dubbed by the international media as the “Korean Mariah Carey”.
Sohyang is a devout Christian. She first began singing in her local community, with no aspirations of pursuing a career as a professional singer. She turned down all major korean entertainment companies stating she only sings for God. She was diagnosed with cervical cancer; due to the early detection, she was able to survive the cancer, but was rendered infertile. Until today, she gets sick very easily. Her vocals have been praised by various vocal coaches and singers like Seth Riggs (whom she took a few goals lessons from) and Michael Bolton.
A few Performances of Sohyang I want to recommend you:

You raise me up - ua-cam.com/video/te_L9ofhUt8/v-deo.html (few hours before this performance she wa diagnose with pneumonia and was told by the doctor not to sing nor to talk. nevertheless she put on a legendary stage)
