    “I would like to hear her sing it on a different day”
    My exact thoughts when seeing this performance for the first time. Every time she sang the words, “like that,” I noticed her voice was thicker and her whistle notes seemed strange. You seem to be the only person who’s noticed. I’m not even a coach or a professional singer but I know what Ari sounds like on a good day and this wasn’t it. I hope she rests soon.

    Great critique! All of what you brought up (especially relaxing the neck/jaw) is a constant work in progress as a soprano. It is sooo easy to tense up to reach those notes. And some days your voice is just funky. I have had my fair share of performances where the song turned out well but your voice isn’t as focused as usual.

    I am a huge Ariana fan, but I hate it when people sugar coat things. I loved how honest you were. I really liked this performance because I really feel like she's trying to sing to get away from all that stress, even if she isn't being successful with that. I completely understand where you’re coming from . I definitely heard it right away when I listened to the live version the first time . I took singing lessons for about 6 years . She’s is incredible beyond belief but you definitely don’t want to lift your neck and hurt your vocal chords . If you sing or know anything about the little technical things about singing you can hear her voice is not 100% . She’s amazing though . If not 100% , 99.9% . She singing everyone all the time . She’s human her voice is going to get a little tired sometimes but singing right and banging your vocal chords help them to be as ready as possible at all times .

  • @jessieee_p
    @jessieee_p 5 років тому

    I love that you described the human voice as something that is living and breathing - so important to remember! I used to beat myself up when I didn't sing well on days that I was emotional or stressed, even though I'd practiced my technique so many times. It's normal to feel a bit 'off' but Ariana's professionalism really shone in this performance. It's one thing to be gifted, it's another thing to be disciplined and still perform even with a heavy heart.

    As a huge Ari fan, I think this song is really tough on her emotionally. So the holding back and not bringing forward, in my opinion, may partially be due to her trying not to cry. But she's definitely exhausted physically and mentally right now after everything she's been going through.

Her voice gets a lot thicker than normal and less forward, which is something I think happens to most people. I honestly think she was just tired and really emotional in this performance, which took a little bit from her normal technique, but really not a lot. She still DELIVERED this song!!!

    It's the mark of a true professional when they can still put on a great performance, despite not feeling their best. I do feel for her as you can see there is not as much energy in her performance as usual, and maybe she isn't enjoying singing as much right now (but I am not her so I do not know!) I just know how heartbreaking it can be when you aren't 100% and it affects doing what you love and impacts how you feel about it; whether it's from tiredness, illness, or the stresses and emotions of life.

    Love how technical you were with this video . Although Ariana wasn’t vocally well as she normally is on this performance , you didn’t bash her like others would , you took it as “ok we have this thing , but let’s look at the positive “ . It made me realize that when I’m having 70-80% days, that this is what it’s like and that we can’t bash ourselves for a bad day , we make the most of what we can sing for that day even if it’s not our best.

    I think she’s definitely tired, especially with everything going on in her social life - it’s like she doesn’t have a second to breathe. You can tell she’s exhausted in more ways than one. It’s not like her usually, but you can tell when she’s emotionally off because it shows when she’s singing, like any real artist. Still a phenomenal vocalist, but I definitely think she needs to take a step back to take care of herself.
    Still highly impressed with those whistle notes though, lord knows I can’t even hit those on a good day LOL

  • @frostedsilver

    She's definitely tired here. The clarity of the tone is lacking, and that's NOT usual. Also, I really wish she would lower her head, because that can't be helping anything. But, as you said, it's still Ariana Grande, so she still kills it.
