    great job. Fact of the matter is, with older cars, as long as we can do a decent repair job to make it look better than it was, there is no need to go to expensive body shops. This turned out great. No one is looking at our cars that hard ever. You do great tutorials.

    Little tip: Put your primer, base and clear coat cans in a pot of hot water for about an hour. I'll leave them in the water while I'm doing all the prep work. Makes the cans spray more smoothly and evenly.

    First you pull the dents out as much as you can. Then you simply put the color match paint on a squeegee or a pad and you go over the damaged area. Then you wait 5 minutes and then polish out the area.

    I'm no professional im 28 I started working as a tech at a body shop back in 2020 I know alot but not everything. Only thing I'd critic on the door is, I would have pulled the door panel off and tried to level out that low spot. Always the less filler needed the better. You also had a decent amount of 80 grit scratches showing but overall pretty good.

    • @SmileyDave-h5z
      @SmileyDave-h5z День тому

      If you ever went to a car show and saw those perfectly painted and aligned panels know this, on the beautiful show cars they are covered in filler and bondo. I'm not saying they have big bondo repairs on them what I'm saying is when they strip these cars to bare metal they skim coat the whole car after fixing every ding they can find and then resand the body to remove ANY imperfections in the metal. That's how they get those perfectly flat mirror finished paintjobs because factory metal is never perfect and you can't repair it to perfect unless you use filler. They also use filler to get those razor straight seams aligned between when two panels meet. The whole bare car is covered in filler and then sanded leaving a minute layer in the imperfections. They use a ton of filler then sand it down so actually the more filler the better!

    Very nicely done. I get a bit mental planning my masking on something like that. Generally move the masking after the base coat so I'm sure my clear has covered all color.

    • @TadpoleTrainer

      Not sure what else you’d expect. To get the bare minimum of acceptable results, the prep involved for painting takes a good chunk of time.
      If you enjoy it as a hobby it’s not a big deal. If you’re just doing it to save some money, then bodywork probably isn’t worth it. After the cost of materials and time to get it done you probably won’t actually save much.

    Hi, I like to a video of a respray of an entire panel with failed clearcoat but no dents. I assume this would be done using HVLP but really its the various steps that I'm interested in. For example, I assume you sand panel down to primer since factory primer is probably better than anything I can do but then do you need to primer before basecoat? I have a book on painting cars but all of those guides assume starting from bare metal. Also assume whole car will be painted so no worries about blending. I have a lot of experience painting furniture and cabinets with HVLP but automotive is a different animal and material is expensive!

    I know you have quite a few videos on painting, but what would be the DIY solution to paint coming off with primer? My white car's paint is flaking and exposing the metal surface in one go. (As far as stopping it from getting worse, and would blending the paint next to the bare metal be fine for priming over

    • @orangeflavoredmf
      @orangeflavoredmf 8 місяців тому +1

      If you mean feathering out a valley that goes down to the bare metal, you need to put a few coats of primer on it to fill the missing paint thickness, for that you have to use high build primer from a compressor paint gun, the ones that come in a spray can are very thin, those are only good for covering burnthroughs and filler. If you don't fill the hole it will show up wavy when you're done painting it.
